AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Identical ILogic Sub-assemblies With Different Parameters

Jul 17, 2013

iLogic code question concerning how Place iLogic Component and retain the ability to push parameters from the subassemblies to the parts after being renamed.

I have ASSEMBLY.iam containing:

SUBASSEMBLY-01:1.iam
SUBASSEMBLY-02:1.iam
and sometimes SUBASSEMBLY-02:2.iam

each SUBASSEMBLY.iam contains PART1.ipt and PART2.ipt which have variable LENGTH and WIDTH. LENGTH and WIDTH are entered manually at the SUBASSEMBLY.iam and are infinitely variable.

To transfer the parameters I'm using iLogic code in the SUBASSEMBLY:

 Parameter("PART1.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART1.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTH

Issue 1: When I place the SUBASSEMBLY as an iLogic Component, the parts are renamed to PART1-01.ipt which renders my Parameter transfer useless. What am I missing on writing this code so it can find the new part name?

 Issue 2: I like the automatic renaming that happens with Place iLogic Component. Is there a better way to handle this automatically through Place Component -> Save & Replace?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - How To Sum A Property Of All Sub Assemblies

Oct 25, 2012

I got here on in my templates, two types of weight - net and gross. I've changed the main property MASS of each PART to be the GROSS weight, so when i have one assembly i always get the total gross weight.

And when i wanna get the NET, I open the BOM, show the proper column with this net weight and then export do XLS to sum all of then..

Now the doubt is, to get the things easier, is there a way to put some code in the assemblies, that could sum all the properties "X" from each part and sub assemblie to get the total net weight ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Creating Assemblies With Different Length?

Jun 21, 2012

I'm new in use of iLogic and tried to use it by myself (and internet). But I have some difficulties.

Here is the open point, I wold like to create an assemblies with different length (and also some different part inside).

So I made some iLogic rules to make a configuration of my .iam with length selection.

 I made rules to show or hide parts with is linked to the proper length.

I made rules to switch from a positional representation to another one and do the same for level of details representation and for view representation.

All is good in my .iam.

My problem is comming now. When I would like to put my .iam in a .idw in several views (corresponding to different length), my views are the all the same. I can't see one length per view even if I select the proper representation, the proper position and the proper level of detail.

At the end, all this work is to have all views length to be able to make in one drawing all length block in autocad.

I'm new in iLogic. I started making an assembly where it has a form where I put the dimension and iLogic controls the subparts including a frame generated profiles (in this case, iassembly don't work with FG).<br><br>The problem is: In the Larger assembly, I also put an iLogic and a form where I want this sub assemblies (this is the assembly mentioned above) to be driven by the parameters I will input on this large assembly. I don't know how to handle this but what I want is to:<br><br>1. I need that when I place this sub assembly there will be a form that will popup during the placement like when I put a bolt on content center.<br>2. AutoCAD Inventor :: Linked Spreadsheet And ILogic Workflow With Assemblies

Jun 19, 2013

My question is regarding the proper workflow within Inventor.  We are currently using 2013 Pro.

I am trying to develop an Assembly that will take linked excel values and have the assembly repond to the user's input.  This spreadsheet is to be general in form and is to be re-used for different projects.  Right now, the excel values are linked to a master assembly file.  This master file has a few iLogic rules to handle the user's input and to pass particular parameter values to the iAssemblies (read sub-assemblies).  The iAssemblies are not that complex, but they are taking parameter values from the master, and using iLogic within the isub-assembly to choose the iAssembly member based on the parameter value.

Problem one:

There seems to be a problem with changing the iAssembly member.  I have stabilized the iAssembly within the master Assembly.  The isub-assembly does not update unless I open the isub-assembly file.  In both the isub-assembly and the master assembly, I update at the end of each rule, and I trigger the rules after any parameter change.

The questions are:

Since there are 123 members (so far) in each of the 2 iAssemblies within the Master Assembly, do I really have to test the parameter 123 times to assign a particular iAssembly member?  Or is there a more concise way to do this?

We are not using Vault yet, but with described workflow, will we have problems when we do migrate to a vault environment?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rule To Rename Newly Placed ILogic Assemblies

Jan 9, 2013

I'm running Invenor 2013 and I'm trying to figure out a way to rename my components from an iLogic assembly when placed in a new assembly.

Right now when I start a new assembly, then place an iLogic component it names everything "Part-01," Part1-01" and so on for all of the variable components.

What I'd like to do is write a rule that when placing my iLogic component it will name it based on the filename of the new assembly that I've created. "Part-New Assmebly," "Part1-New Assembly" and so on.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Reference Parameters

Oct 9, 2013

I'm having some difficulties with iLogic and reference parameters.

I have made a tube with a weird shape and I want to measure the longest length. So I have to cut the tube in a certain angle in relation with the center to measure the length.

The problem is that this angle is really hard to calculate.

So I tried making a rule where I can make my angle shift x degree and then measure the longest length. If the measurement is larger the previous measurement the angle will shift x degree again until the measurement is smaller than the previous.

So I made my starting angle 0 degree, I know this is for a fact not the longest length. And then I tried this rule. (before making a While rule).

And I noticed that on screen the measurement changes. But the reference - parameter stays the same. So it gives me the measurement on the starting angle & after rotating it again gives me the starting angle.

How can I get the parameter to update itself in between?

Dim measurement_length As DoubleDim measurement_length2 As DoubleMessageBox.Show("Start angle ", "My iLogic Dialog", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Asterisk, MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button1)angle_measurement_spec = 0RuleParametersOutput()InventorVb.DocumentUpdate()measurement_length = [code].....

AutoCAD Inventor :: Saving Parameters To Xml (iLogic)

Feb 20, 2013

I would like to save parameters marked as Key to an XML-file (from an Inventor addin, VB.NET):

 This doesn't run: "Public member 'XmlSaveOption' on type 'iLogicAutomation' not found."

The documentation says:

Autodesk.iLogic.Interfaces.IiLogicAutomation.ParametersXmlSave(Inventor.Document,System.String,Autodesk.iLogic.Interfaces.XmlSaveOption)

What is the correct syntax to get the XmlSaveOption?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parameters Not Calculated - Can't Rebuild With UI Or ILogic

Mar 8, 2012

In the attached file there is a User Parameter, "Antal_ledekasser". Inventor has calculated its value to 2.

If you do the math by hand then you see the value should be 5.

Rebuild doesn't force recalculation.

There is an iLogic rule in the part, but this also fails to force recalculation:
iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone=True
InventorVb.DocumentUpdate()
ThisDoc.Document.Rebuild2
ThisDoc.Document.Update2

Manual work around is to change the formula, then the value is recalculated.

iLogic work around is to change a parameter-value - and run the rule TWICE.

Question: How do I force a real rebuild, that actually wil recalculate parameter-values the first time I run the iLogic rule?

 Background: The attached file is a little subset of the skeleton in a large assembly that is controlled by iLogic. The rules are placed in the topassembly, and writes vaules to the skeleton-file.

After writing values to skeleton-parameters I try to force them through with this iLogic
RuleParametersOutput()
InventorVb.DocumentUpdate()
iLogicVb.RunRule("Skeleton", "Update")

Later in the process I use calculated values to decide which components should be active. But my logic fails because my decisions are made on faulty values.

I did manage to get the updating work in 2011. But after migrating to 2012, it seems impossible to have it update correct. The user has to run rules several times, and doing manually updates to get a correct model.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using ILogic And Parameters In IDW File Text Box

Jun 7, 2011

I am trying to enter some material ordering info into an external spreadsheet, and have that info reflected in a text box within an idw drawing file.

My method is as follows:

Obtain a numerical value (250) from an external Excel spreadsheet (sample.xlsx).Assign this value to a parameter (abc) in an idw file (Materials Ordering.idw).Insert parameter abc I made into a text box within the same idw file.

I made a set_parameters rule, and the ilogic text of the above example is as follows:

'Open File and Scan line - Part = Impeller Casing Flange
i = GoExcel.FindRow("sample.xlsx", "Sheet1", "Part", "<=", "Impeller Casing Flange")
'abc = Material Width
abc = GoExcel.CurrentRowValue("Material Width")

I had no problems with the first two steps, after checking the parameters I could see that parameter abc is being updated successfully.

However, I am having trouble with the third step. In the format text dialog box, I can see a drop box for components, but I can't find a reference to the idw file in there.

My question is, am I going the wrong way about this? Should I have assigned the parameters to a component instead of the idw file?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Write-out Parameters In Correct Units In ILogic

Aug 14, 2013

I have this little iLogic snippet that writes out the name and value of all parameters in active document.

doc = ThisDoc.Documentparams = doc.ComponentDefinition.Parametersnames = New List(Of String)values = New List(Of String)For Each param In paramsIf Len(param.Name)>4 Thennames.Add(param.Name)values.Add(param.Value.ToString)ElseEnd IfNextMultiValue.List("ParamsList") = namesMultiValue.List("ParamsValues") = valuesGoExcel.CellValues("COVER.DEFAULT.PARAMS.xlsx", "Sheet1", "A2", "A400") = MultiValue.List("ParamsList")GoExcel.CellValues("COVER.DEFAULT.PARAMS.xlsx", "Sheet1", "B2", "B400") = MultiValue.List("ParamsValues")GoExcel.SaveGoExcel.Close

 The problem is it ignores the parameter's units and assumes cm for length and rad for angular. I need another nested IF - Then that says:

IF param.Values.'UnitType' is "in"  THEN
param.Value = param.Value/2.54
Else If   param.Values.'UnitType' is "deg"  THEN
param.Value = param.Value*360/2/3.14159
End If

I just do not know the syntax or proper method.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Springs Used In Multiple Assemblies

I have a spring that is used in multiple assemblies and in each assembly the compressed length is different. Plus the amount of compression is different.

What is the best way to model the spring so if I change the WD or OD, etc. all assemblies would update?

I tried adaptive, but that seemed to limit the relationship to a one-to-one not a one-to-many.

If I used iPart or the spring was derived from a table, where the OD & WD were constant, would the assembly models change when I changed these values?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Overview Drawing Multiple Assemblies

May 17, 2013

In my company there are a lot of standard parts with variations. An object can have for example a left and a right variation, or can have three a different heights. I've created and iAssembly with the different variations, in which every member has a different part  number. I'd like to make an overview drawing containing all the variations of that object, so the user can easily see the options and can choose the one he wants. On the sheet I'd like to have views of all the different members of the iAssembly, plus a table of all the members with their part number. It was no problem to create the views and the table. But I have two other questions.

1. I want to show the name of the Assembly with the view. So I'd to have in the view a text with the description of the Assembly-member, which is linked with the Assembly. I've tried to use a balloon to tag the assembly, but this only balloons the parts of the assembly. (How) can I do this for the whole of the assembly?

2.When I make an overview of all the columns we use, I'd like to align all the views at the bottom of the view, so you can see that all the columns have different heights, and how they differ in relation to each other. When I align the views with each other, the alignment is done in the middle of the object, not at the bottom. Is there a way to choose what lines of the view must align with each other? Or a way to align the views to a line (for example in a sketch)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Exported Parameters Updated Through Ilogic In A A Part Rounding To Whole Number

Oct 28, 2013

I have two user parameters saved in a part template that are tied to the part volume and an overall estimated part weight.  The user parameter Pc_Volume is the volume in cubic feet and calculated by pulling the part mass (in cubic inches) and converting to cubic feet via ilogic rule.  This is then automatically run via event triggers before a file is saved and if the part geometry has changed to keep the volume up to date.  These are exported because they get pulled into iproperties of our drawing files as well as used to create a parts lists showing the volumes and weights.

I have the property formats of the user parameters set to Number and to unitless and the unit display turned off so it does not show on the parts list, with a precision of 0.000 for Pc_Volume.  The Pc_Weight is set the same way however with a precision rounded to the nearest whole number.

These are created this way so when we use the part file as the template when we select "Make Components" to separate our parts and tie them to an assembly all the files are then updated and the information saved for exporting.

The problem is, the Pc_Volume always comes in rounded to a whole number.  The Pc_Weight Does as well, but that doesn't bother me since we want it to do that anyway.  If I would go into the part file after it's created, double check the precision and then re-run the rule the volume will show up with the correct precision in the exported parameters.  I don't want to have to open each partfile however to get this to update.

Attached are images of the parameters, ilogic rule, and exported results.
