AutoCAD Inventor :: Placing ILogic Assemblies Into Larger Assembly

May 28, 2013

I'm new in iLogic. I started making an assembly where it has a form where I put the dimension and iLogic controls the subparts including a frame generated profiles (in this case, iassembly don't work with FG).<br><br>The problem is: In the Larger assembly, I also put an iLogic and a form where I want this sub assemblies (this is the assembly mentioned above) to be driven by the parameters I will input on this large assembly. I don't know how to handle this but what I want is to:<br><br>1. I need that when I place this sub assembly there will be a form that will popup during the placement like when I put a bolt on content center.<br>2. Save as a new number and when the set of parameters exist on the previous large assembly it will notify that the sub assembly exist.<br><br>is this possible?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Make Sub Assembly From Parts From Main Larger Assembly?

Oct 31, 2011

My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.

When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.

I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.

I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.

In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - How To Sum A Property Of All Sub Assemblies

Oct 25, 2012

I got here on in my templates, two types of weight - net and gross. I've changed the main property MASS of each PART to be the GROSS weight, so when i have one assembly i always get the total gross weight.

And when i wanna get the NET, I open the BOM, show the proper column with this net weight and then export do XLS to sum all of then..

Now the doubt is, to get the things easier, is there a way to put some code in the assemblies, that could sum all the properties "X" from each part and sub assemblie to get the total net weight ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Creating Assemblies With Different Length?

Jun 21, 2012

I'm new in use of iLogic and tried to use it by myself (and internet). But I have some difficulties.

Here is the open point, I wold like to create an assemblies with different length (and also some different part inside).

So I made some iLogic rules to make a configuration of my .iam with length selection.

I made rules to show or hide parts with is linked to the proper length.

I made rules to switch from a positional representation to another one and do the same for level of details representation and for view representation.

All is good in my .iam.

My problem is comming now. When I would like to put my .iam in a .idw in several views (corresponding to different length), my views are the all the same. I can't see one length per view even if I select the proper representation, the proper position and the proper level of detail.

At the end, all this work is to have all views length to be able to make in one drawing all length block in autocad.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Assembly Has Double User Request At Inserting In Assembly

Sep 18, 2012

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.

1. Start a Rule after open document.

2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.

3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.

4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component

5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter

Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:

1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive

2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive

It don't work with the following situation:

- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault

Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.

I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.

change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Translate Assembly Component Using ILogic / Offset From Parent Assembly Origin

Nov 9, 2011

I want to be able to control the location/position of a component in an assembly. This is easy enough through the iProperties/Occurrence tab and then adjust the location of the X,Y, and Z offsets. Is this possible using iLogic? I have been unable to find a function to access via iLogic. Ultimately I am trying to translate a component about an axis not a pattern.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Identical ILogic Sub-assemblies With Different Parameters

Jul 17, 2013

iLogic code question concerning how Place iLogic Component and retain the ability to push parameters from the subassemblies to the parts after being renamed.

I have ASSEMBLY.iam containing:

SUBASSEMBLY-01:1.iam
SUBASSEMBLY-02:1.iam
and sometimes SUBASSEMBLY-02:2.iam

each SUBASSEMBLY.iam contains PART1.ipt and PART2.ipt which have variable LENGTH and WIDTH. LENGTH and WIDTH are entered manually at the SUBASSEMBLY.iam and are infinitely variable.

To transfer the parameters I'm using iLogic code in the SUBASSEMBLY:

 Parameter("PART1.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART1.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTH

Issue 1: When I place the SUBASSEMBLY as an iLogic Component, the parts are renamed to PART1-01.ipt which renders my Parameter transfer useless. What am I missing on writing this code so it can find the new part name?

Issue 2: I like the automatic renaming that happens with Place iLogic Component. Is there a better way to handle this automatically through Place Component -> Save & Replace?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Linked Spreadsheet And ILogic Workflow With Assemblies

Jun 19, 2013

My question is regarding the proper workflow within Inventor.  We are currently using 2013 Pro.

I am trying to develop an Assembly that will take linked excel values and have the assembly repond to the user's input.  This spreadsheet is to be general in form and is to be re-used for different projects.  Right now, the excel values are linked to a master assembly file.  This master file has a few iLogic rules to handle the user's input and to pass particular parameter values to the iAssemblies (read sub-assemblies).  The iAssemblies are not that complex, but they are taking parameter values from the master, and using iLogic within the isub-assembly to choose the iAssembly member based on the parameter value.

Problem one:

There seems to be a problem with changing the iAssembly member.  I have stabilized the iAssembly within the master Assembly.  The isub-assembly does not update unless I open the isub-assembly file.  In both the isub-assembly and the master assembly, I update at the end of each rule, and I trigger the rules after any parameter change.

The questions are:

Since there are 123 members (so far) in each of the 2 iAssemblies within the Master Assembly, do I really have to test the parameter 123 times to assign a particular iAssembly member?  Or is there a more concise way to do this?

We are not using Vault yet, but with described workflow, will we have problems when we do migrate to a vault environment?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rule To Rename Newly Placed ILogic Assemblies

Jan 9, 2013

I'm running Invenor 2013 and I'm trying to figure out a way to rename my components from an iLogic assembly when placed in a new assembly.

Right now when I start a new assembly, then place an iLogic component it names everything "Part-01," Part1-01" and so on for all of the variable components.

What I'd like to do is write a rule that when placing my iLogic component it will name it based on the filename of the new assembly that I've created. "Part-New Assmebly," "Part1-New Assembly" and so on.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Placing IParts In Assembly?

Sep 26, 2013

Subject: Inventor placing Iparts in Assembly (Autodesk Inventor 2010)

Problem:

When placing an Ipart into a project Assembly it will make a copy of that variant and place it in the same map as the Ipart.

So when variant B of Ipart A is selected it will make a copy of variant B in the same folder where Ipart A is located.

Question:

Is it possible to make a “save as” option or another similar manner to save those copies of variant B in a project map of a project assembly?

Instead of saving all the Ipart variants to a single folder. So each time a new project is started they have all the parts in the same folder.

Reason:

I am making a local library for parts that are used for repairs. These parts have many variants and some times need to be customized for a repair.

The current system keeps polluting itself causing the users to loose their parts and accidentally delete the original parts etc.

I contacted Autodesk support and theyrecommended to post this question on this forum. They did mentioned that vba programming could achieve this. I have no knowledge of this type of programming.

I have been working with macros basically making user forms to control the models. The program calls on a part that I use as an actuation template (its just a part with parameters that are then linked to the assembly contraints) then the macro will change the parameters and update the model.

What I need to do is to put in some code in the userforn initialize sub that gets the actuation template from the disk, for example: C:Other StuffActuation Template A.ipt. Then the macro places the part into the assembly. The userform then manipulates the actuation template (and the assembly model). Then when the userform is unloaded the part is deleted from the assembly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Placing Content Center Parts At Assembly Origin 2012

Mar 14, 2012

I have just installed Inventor 2012 and am experiencing a bizarre problem with placing content center parts.  When I start a new assembly, and place a content center part, I would expect it to locate itself central to the assembly origin.  What actually happens is that it grounds itself wherever I click on the screen.  This doesn't happen with parts that I have created myself.

Is there a bug in the system or maybe an option that I have unknowingly switched off?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Rules In Assembly

Oct 3, 2011

I am very new to this whole concept of having ilogic based rules to drive your part design. I have even gotten as far as creating a ipart and having ilogic rules be able to suppress, unsuppress, change values and dimensions using ilogic rules. I now want to be able to use ilogic rules to drive some of the various(yet similiar) assemblies that I create all the time.

For instance, If I have just a flat plate as the base component with a shaft welded to it that varies in length for my assemblies. Since the shaft varies in length, I went ahead and created iparts for all the lengths of the shafts. I can manually change which shaft I want represented in the assembly, but I would like to to know how do I get Ilogic to place the different shafts based on user parameters???

I've looked into component place iparts, but can't seem to get the code to work. The list of iparts tree within the model doesn't pop up in the model tab in the ilogic rule, only the base component.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Driven From Sub Assembly

Jul 1, 2013

I have a parent assembly that contains multiple sub assemblies, two of which need to synchronize with each other. In the parent assembly, I have created a user form that controls the sizes and quantities of all the different sub assemblies.

Sub assembly 1 contains a bracket for supporting 4 rows of pipes.Based on the width selected from the main parent assembly, the length of this bracket can vary.

The spacing of the 4 mounting positions is also determined from the length of the bracket.Sub assembly 2 is an assembly containing all the pipes. The pipes are spaced apart to suit the bracket using a component pattern, and it is this distance that I want to control from the parent  assembly. This is just one of the basic scripts I've tried.

Pipe_Spacing=Parameter("SubAssembly1:1", "Pipe_Spacing_A")

Parameter("Piping assembly:1", "Pipe_Spacing_B")=Pipe_Spacing
Pipe_Spacing_A is the spacing of the bracket
Pipe_Spacing_B is the component pattern in the piping assembly
Pipe_Spacing is the parameter in the parent assembly to be driven by the bracket parameters.

I have very little iLogic experience & have being learning as I go along with this project. My best guess is that the code can't loop back on itself. On a slightly different note, I have also noticed that the sub assemblies don't update properly.

If I adjust the width to X and regenerate the model, some of the sub assembly updates. To fully update, I have to go back into the user form, change the size to Y & then change it back again to X and then regenerate.
