I'm laying out a drawing with all tabletops used in our project for a linolium- fitter to set a price on covering the about 12 tabletops in total.
I dont know if this is correct English or if it make sense at all, but what I was wondering about was: Could you retrieve the total m2 of all the tabletops in a drawing? Or do I have to go back to the aim and get them one by one?
I want to calculate the total external surface area of the attached manifold. When I use the iProperties tool, it give me the surface area including internal surfaces of tubulars etc.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get the correct total mass of a particular assy variant in a view label. I am trying to avoid using I-Assemblies due to the length of time it takes to set up and inevitable fudging of parts lists with phantom parts when things go awry. Anyway, to get around that clumbsiness, I use a combination of suppresed parts, assembly Level of detail (LOD) and View representations to switch parts on and off for various assembly variants of a theme (which works fine for me). see my "Mass of LOD's.jpg" attachment which should fully explain the parts list filtering and what I WISH to achieve. My objective is to get the correct MASS per Level of Assy and View Rep (both called the same) to be automated, correctly (as per LOD/VIEW REP), ideally, in the view label or in a leader note. I reckon I was able to do this way back in MDT? Any enhancement in Inventor 2013?

I use flat piano hinges on doors for many of the machines we build. I would like to be able to calculate the total length of multiple doors on a single machine. We buy these hinges so it needs to go on a buy out parts list.
So here is my problem:
To make it a useable hinge I build an assembly from two hinge halves.
This allows me to check for interference within the machine when the door gets opened.
I set the BOM structure of the assembly to purchased so it shows up on my buy out list.
Both halves of the hinge are set to normal.
There are hinges of different lengths on the same machine.
I can link a parameter of one of the halves to the assembly to show length of the hinge but I cannot set the BOM base qty on the assembly to that parameter so Inventor can add up the lengths.
When I group the items in a buyout parts list the result is "0." The individual assemblies show the correct length because I use the "length" parameter that is linked for the QTY in the parts list. But I cant "add" the lengths and have a total whe I group them.
I need to have mixed units in this list. Some things are bought as Each and these hinges are bought in length.
Is there any way to get an area for the entire assembly on the BOM? If you go to i Properties --> Physical it is shown there. But how to pull it from there and have it as Column in BOM? Can it be done using API ?

I know how to calculate an individual window area by using 'area' or 'ls' command. But this is just partial drawing and the whole building has hundreds of windows and it will take forever to calculate one by one and add them together to get the total area. Is there any way to get the whole area easily?
windows are just rectangles (and solid hatch inside the rectangle).

I created a number of such planes in the layer. I want to extract total area of this layer which has these polyline extrusions (planes). I know the command of add area, but it is a tedious process and does not work for curved planes. How do I extract the area for the entire layer in one go ?

I created an iLogic rule that allows in a sheet metal part to the informations Length, widht and area of a flat pattern. This rule run and the iproerties are created (see attachment file).
Now, I will run this rule from an assembly file to create automatically, in all sheet metal components, theses iproperties.
Is it possible ? what must I change in this rule ?
I've done this a number of times and have seen excellent results and after a few times running through it I can do it in my sleep. I also feel that this is the least damaging to my image and keeps the file from changing visually too much.
1. First, open the offending image and save as so that you have an original file to go back to if you have to. Here is my example image. I am being informed by the publication I am sending it to that my ink limit should be under 300. But when I check my image with the eyedropper set to "Total Ink" I am seeing 320-350 in many areas.
2. With this new file open, duplicate the file so that you now have two images open. In the "copy" select the black channel and duplicate that channel within the file. In most cases, your high total ink areas will be found in the "darkest" parts of your images. By duplicating the black channel, I will be using this as a selection mask.
3. Now on the "copy" image, you want to choose Edit > Convert to Profile. Here you will choose Custom CMYK and in the next dialog box change the Total Ink Limit to the desired amount, in this case 300.
4. After this conversion, use your eyedropper and check the Total Ink in the areas that previously you discovered was too high. You will now see much lower numbers, and actually the numbers may have gone too far and you'll see that your converted image looks very different from your original image. But, not to worry, the following steps will solve that.
5. In the "copy" image, with the CMYK channels active, select all pixels.
6. Go to your other, "original" image you have open and Select > Load Selection. Choose the "black copy" channel from your "copy" image and also choose invert. This will load a selection mask in your image of just the "darkest" parts of your image.
7. Now with this selection active, you want to Edit > Paste Into. You are now pasting into the selection your converted image, but it will be only affecting the darkest parts of your image. The result will also create a new layer and layer mask. If you turn off the view of your bottom layer, you can see what you have actually pasted into your image.
8. Now what I do is use my eyedropper to check the Total Ink with the top layer turned on and then off. I then use the Opacity slider on the top layer to get my image so that the Total Ink meets my desired 300 level. Once it's where I want, I flatten my image and then all is done. Your "copy" image you can just close and no save.
Is there a way to report the total internal area for a building ? As in - the total area of a building up to the internal face of the external wall (including all internal partitions and walls).
We can use the Gross Building Area - but this includes the external walls - and doesn't update as the external wall envelope is added to. Ideally we would like a like reporting on the total internal area as the design / model is progressed.
I am making a graph template that I would like to be able to quickly adjust when needed. I am wondering how to constrain the rectangles so they maintain their total area while their proportions are changed?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a large group of lines that I want to get a total length of. Right now the only way that I know how to do this is to highlight them all and use the list command but then I have to go through the text box and write down each line length and then add them up. This is fine if I have only a few lines but when you get into the hundreds or thousands it becomes a monster task.
I tried copying the text box data into a Word document, removing all of the text except for the line lengths and then dumping that into Excel to calculate. This works ok for a hand full of lines but is not really practical.
I know that there are LSP routines that can do this in the full version of AutoCad but LSP is not supported in AutoCad LT.
Is there a way to automate this process in LT?
Or maybe extracting just the length data from a line to a text file where I can send it to Excel and use Excel to add up the lengths?
Any way to add all the areas of a space style to get a total SF#? Is there a way to add this information to a display theme style legend?(preffered) Is there a way to get this information in to a schedule? (less desirable)

Is it possible to get the "actual" calculated area of the face of a part from a drawing view? I looked at the drawing view object in the api but didn't find what I was looking for. What my goal is, I want to calculate the actual square foot of this piece and then subtract it from the overall square foot so I can calculate waste. Perimeter's of pieces can be in multiple forms, radial, straight or a combination of the two. See image below.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large assembly model made of many different parts. The last thing I want to do is "paint" it so I can make a drawing showing the different colors being used. My plan is to take the entire assembly and insert it into another assembly then just change the parts to the specific colors. I was wondering if there was a way to change the colors on multiple parts at once. Right now I right click the part go to iproperties and then go to occurence and choose the specific color. I know from using Solidworks that it works the opposite you click the color first and then all the parts that you want to be that color. It works out a lot quicker. If I select multiple parts the occurence tab in the properties is greyed out.

I have an assembly with multiple instances of a subassembly. I'd like to remove the subassembly and place the subassembly components (i.e. multiple instances) in the main assembly. When complete, the top assembly would have multiple instances of all the subassembly components.
Component promote seems like the right way to do this. So, I selected an instance of one of the subassemblies components and promoted it. That component was promoted, removing it from the subassembly as placing it in my top level assembly.
However, all the other instances of that component disappear (which makes sense since that component is no longer in the subassembly). Unfortunately, this means I have to assemble and constrain all the other instances that disappeared.

I'm trying to move a bunch of unconstrained parts in an assembly. I want them to stay the same distance relative to each other so I want to move them all at once as a whole group. As the above thread states, when I use CTRL + left mouse button and select the desired parts, only one of the parts will move.
How do I make multiple views (Front, Top, Side & Isometric) when driving an assembly constraint? I want to be able to show an assembly moving from different perspectives all at one time.

In an assembly with unconstrained parts, if you select multiple parts and drag the parts, only the first selected part moves.Is this just me?
