AutoCad :: How To Extract Total Area Of Layer Which Has Extrusions Of Polylines
Oct 25, 2011
I created walls for a structure by drawing a simple polylines and extruding it by the Z axis, so that i get a vertical plane. I created a number of such planes in the layer. I want to extract total area of this layer which has these polyline extrusions (planes). I know the command of add area, but it is a tedious process and does not work for curved planes. How do I extract the area for the entire layer in one go ?

where I can obtain a freeware lisp routine that lists the lengths of all the polylines on a specific layer or within a selection set? I want to avoid list if possible as there are rather a lot of polylines!

I have a drawing with 3D polylines that will be used to build a surface but many of them cross each other.
I would like to extract the vertices of these polylines and use this information to build the surface but can't figure out an easy way to do this.
I have tried the Points at Vertices Automatic which is ok but as there are 300 or so 3D polylines this will get very tedious very quickly - is there a better/quicker way to do this?

I have a building like this and it has a lot of windows.
I know how to calculate an individual window area by using 'area' or 'ls' command. But this is just partial drawing and the whole building has hundreds of windows and it will take forever to calculate one by one and add them together to get the total area. Is there any way to get the whole area easily?
windows are just rectangles (and solid hatch inside the rectangle).

A quick lisp routine to extract the elevations of a selection set of 2d polylines? I have a massive "contour" file composed of 2d polylines with elevations. I need to find the min and max polyline elevation in selected areas. I can't figure out how to extract just the elevations of my selected polylines so I can quickly see the elevation values?

I know 2013 are more exposed and the .net can extract contours. However using 2012 at the moment. so my plan is using .net to add the user contours and then use com object to extract.
so far i can get the surface object and assign to two different surface variable one is .net and one is com. I am looking at the surface analysis object and can't figure out how to add contours at user elevation. it is also read only in the surface object. but i find this:
SetContourData
(analysisData()
which is obvious not read only. so any sample code of the procedure of assign user contours?

I've read through some of the discussions on this subject. I have three lines of command visible. I blocked out my file. I audited my file. I have Service Pack 1.1 installed. I still continue to have intermittent problems with the area command. Please see in the attached video how it works in one area of my file, but not another area of the same file. URL....

I'm laying out a drawing with all tabletops used in our project for a linolium- fitter to set a price on covering the about 12 tabletops in total.
I dont know if this is correct English or if it make sense at all, but what I was wondering about was: Could you retrieve the total m2 of all the tabletops in a drawing? Or do I have to go back to the aim and get them one by one?

I've done this a number of times and have seen excellent results and after a few times running through it I can do it in my sleep. I also feel that this is the least damaging to my image and keeps the file from changing visually too much.
1. First, open the offending image and save as so that you have an original file to go back to if you have to. Here is my example image. I am being informed by the publication I am sending it to that my ink limit should be under 300. But when I check my image with the eyedropper set to "Total Ink" I am seeing 320-350 in many areas.
2. With this new file open, duplicate the file so that you now have two images open. In the "copy" select the black channel and duplicate that channel within the file. In most cases, your high total ink areas will be found in the "darkest" parts of your images. By duplicating the black channel, I will be using this as a selection mask.
3. Now on the "copy" image, you want to choose Edit > Convert to Profile. Here you will choose Custom CMYK and in the next dialog box change the Total Ink Limit to the desired amount, in this case 300.
4. After this conversion, use your eyedropper and check the Total Ink in the areas that previously you discovered was too high. You will now see much lower numbers, and actually the numbers may have gone too far and you'll see that your converted image looks very different from your original image. But, not to worry, the following steps will solve that.
5. In the "copy" image, with the CMYK channels active, select all pixels.
6. Go to your other, "original" image you have open and Select > Load Selection. Choose the "black copy" channel from your "copy" image and also choose invert. This will load a selection mask in your image of just the "darkest" parts of your image.
7. Now with this selection active, you want to Edit > Paste Into. You are now pasting into the selection your converted image, but it will be only affecting the darkest parts of your image. The result will also create a new layer and layer mask. If you turn off the view of your bottom layer, you can see what you have actually pasted into your image.
8. Now what I do is use my eyedropper to check the Total Ink with the top layer turned on and then off. I then use the Opacity slider on the top layer to get my image so that the Total Ink meets my desired 300 level. Once it's where I want, I flatten my image and then all is done. Your "copy" image you can just close and no save.

Is there a way to report the total internal area for a building ? As in - the total area of a building up to the internal face of the external wall (including all internal partitions and walls).
We can use the Gross Building Area - but this includes the external walls - and doesn't update as the external wall envelope is added to. Ideally we would like a like reporting on the total internal area as the design / model is progressed.

Have recently upgraded to 2014 and can no longer get the AREA of a closed polyline in quick properties. It is no longer an option when customising the quick properties information. I know you can measure area in a number of ways but it was very handy to click on a closed polyline and have the area of that object come up in the Quick Properties window.
how to get the Area of a closed polyline in Quick Properties for 2014?

I have several days of experience with Autocad 2010... The problem: I have many (a lot) polylines in my 2D drawing that are adjacent to each other, but not joined. What is a good way of joining them, so that those that "touch" each other become one? Maybe I can hatch the area, then delete polylines and then reconstruct the boundary?

I need to segregate closed polylines in my drawing by area range. Ideally, I would input the number of ranges I need.
Then somehow find the smallest and largest pline area to determine the range values (rounding up to a sensble number)
Then with the ranges determined the polylines would be segregated and moved to new layers.
I've been trying to hobble together pieces but with no joy.

I am using Photoshop CS5.
Right now I am trying to extract edited area and add some effects only on the area. I added some hand paintings on a picture and I need to extract hand painted area from the picture and add some effects on the extracted hand paintings and combine it with the original picture. I know I should hand paint on a different layer and add some effects on the layer and combine it with the picture, but I have to do what I am doing right now.
See pictures below.(those pictures are much simpler than my pictures I am editing right now)
There is a layer that has only 1 color, green. And 2nd picture has pinky letter A on 1st layer, so 2nd layer has green and pink color. I need to extract pinky A letter from 2nd layer and need to add some effects only on the letter A, and combine 1st layer and edited letter A to make 3rd layer.
I tried to use blend mode Difference to extract edited area but it changes the color of the area. And I don't want to use select tool & alpha mask, because my picture is much complicated.
What I want to do is something like Difference Matte effect in After Effects. Is it possible in Photoshop?

I have made changes to one dwg and i now have to apply it to a bazillion more DWG's. But the chnages apply only to a few layers. So i was wondering if i can set the global width to these polylines by layer somehow to save me from doing it "manually"

When I import shape files the polylines will not take the layer style I move them to. They stay a continuous linetype. Linetype and Lineweight is set to ByLayer. Only difference between the new lines and the lines drawing correctly is the lines that stay continuous are 3D polylines and the correct ones are normal polylines. What I need to do to make the imported lines accept my layer linetypes?

As the above mentioned, I have a drawing drawn using polylines with width from someone. The width of the line are suppose to represent area,
To put things into prospective, here is an example:
The polyline is 10 unit long and with a width of 2 unit wide. If i explode that polyline, it will become a single polyline without width. The line are suppose to represent 10 unit long and 2 unit wide; representing an area.
My question is is there a way to change the line above directly from polyline with width to a close polyline (4 x polylines) of 10 unit long and 2 unit wide.
