View 4 RepliesI've read through some of the discussions on this subject. I have three lines of command visible. I blocked out my file. I audited my file. I have Service Pack 1.1 installed. I still continue to have intermittent problems with the area command. Please see in the attached video how it works in one area of my file, but not another area of the same file. URL....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a building like this and it has a lot of windows.
I know how to calculate an individual window area by using 'area' or 'ls' command. But this is just partial drawing and the whole building has hundreds of windows and it will take forever to calculate one by one and add them together to get the total area. Is there any way to get the whole area easily?
windows are just rectangles (and solid hatch inside the rectangle).
How can i use subtract area command in area command while using add command , often it happens we click on polyline whose area we did not want to consider. How can i do like this, i re click on that enclosed polyline and the area gets subtracted and the green fill goes away?

I dont know if this is correct English or if it make sense at all, but what I was wondering about was: Could you retrieve the total m2 of all the tabletops in a drawing? Or do I have to go back to the aim and get them one by one?
I created walls for a structure by drawing a simple polylines and extruding it by the Z axis, so that i get a vertical plane. I created a number of such planes in the layer. I want to extract total area of this layer which has these polyline extrusions (planes). I know the command of add area, but it is a tedious process and does not work for curved planes. How do I extract the area for the entire layer in one go ?

Started to play with dynamic blocks now got my head around stretch and tables but I'm looking to use the array command
this is what I want to try to achive
I have a dynamic block which has a array command in it so by simply pulling on the arrow the block will array horizontally giving me multiple items side by side
what I want to do is count the array example if I insert the block and and array to say 12 items side by side then I want to get the value 12 placed into a block attribute which is part of the dynamic block
I can then pull this data out of the drawing into spreadsheet so I can then create a purchase list of items
My immediate thought was to divide the the total length by the width of the item to get me a count but I don't know yet how to get this to work in the dynamic block
Is there a command or script in Autocad 2012 that will add all your dimensions together to give you a grand total?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've done this a number of times and have seen excellent results and after a few times running through it I can do it in my sleep. I also feel that this is the least damaging to my image and keeps the file from changing visually too much.
1. First, open the offending image and save as so that you have an original file to go back to if you have to. Here is my example image. I am being informed by the publication I am sending it to that my ink limit should be under 300. But when I check my image with the eyedropper set to "Total Ink" I am seeing 320-350 in many areas.
2. With this new file open, duplicate the file so that you now have two images open. In the "copy" select the black channel and duplicate that channel within the file. In most cases, your high total ink areas will be found in the "darkest" parts of your images. By duplicating the black channel, I will be using this as a selection mask.
3. Now on the "copy" image, you want to choose Edit > Convert to Profile. Here you will choose Custom CMYK and in the next dialog box change the Total Ink Limit to the desired amount, in this case 300.
4. After this conversion, use your eyedropper and check the Total Ink in the areas that previously you discovered was too high. You will now see much lower numbers, and actually the numbers may have gone too far and you'll see that your converted image looks very different from your original image. But, not to worry, the following steps will solve that.
5. In the "copy" image, with the CMYK channels active, select all pixels.
6. Go to your other, "original" image you have open and Select > Load Selection. Choose the "black copy" channel from your "copy" image and also choose invert. This will load a selection mask in your image of just the "darkest" parts of your image.
7. Now with this selection active, you want to Edit > Paste Into. You are now pasting into the selection your converted image, but it will be only affecting the darkest parts of your image. The result will also create a new layer and layer mask. If you turn off the view of your bottom layer, you can see what you have actually pasted into your image.
8. Now what I do is use my eyedropper to check the Total Ink with the top layer turned on and then off. I then use the Opacity slider on the top layer to get my image so that the Total Ink meets my desired 300 level. Once it's where I want, I flatten my image and then all is done. Your "copy" image you can just close and no save.
Is there a way to report the total internal area for a building ? As in - the total area of a building up to the internal face of the external wall (including all internal partitions and walls).
We can use the Gross Building Area - but this includes the external walls - and doesn't update as the external wall envelope is added to. Ideally we would like a like reporting on the total internal area as the design / model is progressed.
I am making a graph template that I would like to be able to quickly adjust when needed. I am wondering how to constrain the rectangles so they maintain their total area while their proportions are changed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a bit of an issue when using the AREA command. I've noticed that the UCS (User Coordinate System) changes when I attempt to take the area of an existing object (when I trace over a rectangle, for example). The changes to the UCS are dramatic, the drawing zooms out and rotates depending on how I traced the object. The change occurs when I click the third time. This reminds me of setting a new UCS where you would first select the x-axis direction with two clicks followed by the direction of the y-axis with one click. There is no change to UCS when I trace out an arbitrary shape.
Here's what I've been able to figure out and it involves the UCSFOLLOW setting. When I set the UCSFOLLOW variable to 0, everything works great and I don't get the zooming out and rotation. When it's set to 1, well, the PLAN VIEW changes by zooming out and rotating. If I zoom back in and complete the area and press enter, everything goes back to normal. So I still manage to get the area of the object that I want, but the zooming out and rotation makes it very inconvenient.
Okay, I understand that the UCSFOLLOW solves the problem, but is it normal for the AREA command to make changes to the UCS by default? I ask because creating a new drawing, creating a rectangle and using the AREA command doesn't cause the same UCS change, regardless of the UCSFOLLOW setting. This makes me think the drawing I am working on has objects with a coordinate system that differs from the WCS, right? Is there a way to have the UCSFOLLOW active while not having the AREA command alter the UCS?
I'm using AutoCAD 2012.
I have a 3D polyline (blue in attached) for which I am trying to calculate the surface area. I use the area-->object command and get 1912342m2 in AutoCAD 2012. My colleague uses the same command in AutoCAD LT 2009 and gets 1807093m2. Due to the discrepancy, I roughly traced a polyline (yellow in attached) around the area in AutoCAD 2012 and I get approx. 1810000m2 so assumedly the AutoCAD LT 2009 version is giving the correct answer while my AutoCAD 2012 is not!
Why am I getting a different area for the polylines...is the difference is due to it being a 3D polyline? Is there a way I can ensure I obtain the correct area using the 3D polyline?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the "Plot" command the rectangular drawing on the right side that is normally hatched to indicate the area to be plotted appears as being blank. I have been using the "Windows" option to define the extent of the plot. When the "Preview" command is used the plot appears as a blank screen.
I have tried various attempts to make this hatched drawing reappear but without success. I know that this needs to be present before I can successfully plot the drawing.
I find conflict area between list command for hatch and calculation.

when do you make calculation list of hatch 2545.948
I need to calculate area of the roof created in 3d autocad 2009 using the command edge mesh.
I cant convert it to solid or anything else. This roof if created using 4 arcs joint together in 3d environment and with command edge mesh.
Is there a way to get the Area option of the rectangle command to work in square feet rather than square inches?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThey are read-only, so seem to reflect the start and end of the profile tangents.Would you ever not set those to the alignment start and end stations?
I tried setting them to stations before and after the alignment start and end stations, that did not allow me to reach my goal of allowing addition of PVI's before alignment start and after end.
I know you can have the profile extend beyond the alignment, it works fine if you add the PVI's with the C3D toolbar.I can't figure out how to do it with the API though.
I have a client that wants the part number to be driven by size with a catch. The part number goes like this:
625A3-A01.000M0.500 or 625A3-A10.000M1.000
625A3 = Profile Threaded or unthreaded rod
A= material type A-Mild Steel, B-Ground and polish rod, C-Stainless steel and so on
01.000 is the Length of the part (this is an issue will explain at bottom)
M= thread code K-no tapping, L-10-32 UNC, M-1/4-20 UNC, N- 5/16-18 and so on
.500= Diameter of rod ( nothing bigger than 9 inches)
Ok I have everything working but the Length the issue with this is the leading and trailing zeros and extra..If the length is 1/2 inch the number needs to show as 00.5000 if it is 1 inch needs to show as 01.000 if it was 10 inches it needs to show like 10.000.
Now this is the problem I am having if it is 1/2 I get this 0.500 but I need that extra 0 in the front like 00.500.
I am also having issues when the number is 4 inches or a rounded number 10,9,5 no matter if I have the parameter set to show trailing zeros it seems to work and not work so I get 4 and not 4.000 even in this I would have to get ilogic to add a zero to it like 04.000.
How can I get ilogic to look at the number of characters in the Length and if it is less than the what I need add the others.
If LENGTH >= Len(5) ThenParameter("L_1") = "0" & LENGTH & ".000"ElseParameter("L_1") = LENGTHEnd IfiProperties.Value("Project", "Part Number")= "625A3-" & Mat_Code & L_1 & Tap_Code & Rod
I have a routine that runs a cycle through 36 large dynamic blocks, then finishes. Somewhere in this code I'm either leaking memory, running a never ending loop, or AutoCAD gets stuck on something. I have a 12gb machine, and this file only uses a few MB on the hard drive. I ended the video on a portrait of him and added a title to appear. However, as the clip proceeds the title disappears at the end of it's bar/clip. How does one get the video to end on the photo with the title in place, or, freeze on the photo and title after the tile appears. The more I extend the title bar, it just takes longer to appear and still disappears at the end.

I've noticed that when you press the space key to end a line when you drawing with the bézier tool, it automatically takes you to the pick tool. So if you want to draw another line right away, you have to switch back to the bézier tool. It would be nicer to have a one-step means of doing this. Does any exist?
