AutoCad 3D :: Calculate Area Of The Roof Using Command Edge Mesh
Oct 13, 2011
I need to calculate area of the roof created in 3d autocad 2009 using the command edge mesh.
I cant convert it to solid or anything else. This roof if created using 4 arcs joint together in 3d environment and with command edge mesh.

i created new polygon´s SDF (ACAD Civil,Map2011). And created new feature from geometry (from 2 closed plines - island). See on attached picture. If polygons are more complex =erroneous result from calculation ("Round ( Area2D ( Geometrie ), 0 ) "). It means ACAD calculate sum 2 areas together, but It should dedust island from main polygon.

If I want to calculate the square mm of an area, how do I do so? I know this should be really simple but I can't get the results I want. Let's say I have a rectangle (2D) and I draw somew circles and polylines within it that are 'cut out' from the rectangle....how does one calcualte the remaining square mm?

How do you calculate paint area?
We do a lot of chutes (for mining). They need to be painted on the outside only. They also need to be lined with rubber sheet on the inside. The area given in the physical tab in iProperties is the total area.
The area of the edges of the plates are small enough that we can ignore them, but is there a way to calculate half the model's area and get that result in the drawing in a text note?
We've only recently switched over to Inventor (used to be on Solidworks, where we had the same problem).

I have a bench which I have drawn in CAD, and I want to calculate the area.
The bench is a sort of "S" shape.
In the past I have only calculated the areas of straight objects and so have been able to pick points, but i'm not sure how to go about it when the object includes a curve.

I have a part with very irregular shape created by projecting geometry of other parts.
I wondered if there is any way of calculating area of this extrusion instead of dimensioning the sketch and creating equasions in user parameters?

I have an acad document connected to some .shp files, which contain polygonal shapes with some meta-tags.
I want to achieve the following: draw a polygonal shape and select all the tangent areas (I already know how to do so)take a property of those areas and calculate an area-proportional [or: area weighted] average value (proportional to the partial area defined by the drawn polygonal shape). I tried to achieve this by splitting the objects and merging them again with defined splitting (area proportional) and merging (average) options. The problem is: splitting & merging doesn't work until I disconnect the data files (checking the objects out doesn't work) and even then I can't split the areas. And, more important: This doesn't create a weighted average and I don't even want to manipulate the objects! I just want to get one value out of all these steps.
I appended a screenshot of my file. E.g. I want to take the value 923.2 and multiply it with the corresponding area percentage it represents in the drawn shape. So the calculation would look something like 0.02*923.2 + 0.2*926 + 0.12*945,9 [...] until all the 100% are covered and I get one single representative value.
I use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 on an Intel Core i7, 12GB RAM, 64bit Win 7 Pro SP 1 PC.

I was just wondering why when I try and calculate an area using a polyine, I am getting a readout of 1.80401967E+07, when I have it set to give me the calculation in square feet? It is an area of approx. 246 Acres.....is this because the area is so large? I am not sure what the "E" stands for or the "+07" at the end....

How to calculate the AREA of cut and fill analogous to the volume of cut and fill between surfaces, but instead only between the alignment and the road profile in the prolfile view. From what I've read of similar posts a few people have had the same question but have been instructed how to do it with volumes as opposed to area. Also how to insert a table of cut and fill area analogous to the one you can inset from the volumes dashboard.

I've been trying to calculate large areas using fills but I keep encountering a problem with some of the hatches not showing an area and thus ruining my calculation. I've found out that I can correct it by removing certain crossing point between lines as is shown below in my screenshots. Is there any reason this is causing a particular problem and can I avoid it to save me having to go back over my hatches checking for these malformed hatches?

I am using 2011 and have created a project for a 2 story structure. I have constructs for each floor, each floor slab and roof slab.
In which construct do I apply the roofline command? I am unsuccessful so far. Does the roof slab need to be in the same construct as the walls?

I am using AutoCAD Architecture 2012.
I built some walls and a roof slab using the wall, door, and roof slab tools in the build section of the ribbon. I drew a section plane and activated live section. The walls and roof did not cut away and they do not show up when i use the sectionplanetoblock command.
Is there a setting I need to change to make the walls and roof susceptible to being cut using the sectionplane command?

I know that Archtecture uses views differently than the other AutoCAD verticals, but I'd still like to find a solution to this. When I use the 3DCLIP command to create section views of models created in Architecture, the wall and roof objects do not clip correctly. The clipping planes do not create sections of those objects.
Is there a way to get the 3DCLIP command to actually intersect wall and roof objects?

I have a generic 5" thick rectangular concrete roof layout with a single directional slope of 1:3.
Is there a way to have the bottom and upper edge-faces be square (Two Cut - Square) to the slope and not vertical (Two Cut - Plumb) ?
No facia applied to this roofing system. Just plane jane.

1.How can I edit the roof in attached dwg to be like in attached jpg?
One option I think it would be to convert it to roof slab.
What is the disadvantage (if any) to convert ia roof to roof slab?
Can I create it in other way ?
2. In section 2, the first floor walls ends in 90 degrees angle at the roof. Can the walls be edited so that the joint line with the roof follow the roof slope?

I am having a bit of an issue when using the AREA command. I've noticed that the UCS (User Coordinate System) changes when I attempt to take the area of an existing object (when I trace over a rectangle, for example). The changes to the UCS are dramatic, the drawing zooms out and rotates depending on how I traced the object. The change occurs when I click the third time. This reminds me of setting a new UCS where you would first select the x-axis direction with two clicks followed by the direction of the y-axis with one click. There is no change to UCS when I trace out an arbitrary shape.
Here's what I've been able to figure out and it involves the UCSFOLLOW setting. When I set the UCSFOLLOW variable to 0, everything works great and I don't get the zooming out and rotation. When it's set to 1, well, the PLAN VIEW changes by zooming out and rotating. If I zoom back in and complete the area and press enter, everything goes back to normal. So I still manage to get the area of the object that I want, but the zooming out and rotation makes it very inconvenient.
Okay, I understand that the UCSFOLLOW solves the problem, but is it normal for the AREA command to make changes to the UCS by default? I ask because creating a new drawing, creating a rectangle and using the AREA command doesn't cause the same UCS change, regardless of the UCSFOLLOW setting. This makes me think the drawing I am working on has objects with a coordinate system that differs from the WCS, right? Is there a way to have the UCSFOLLOW active while not having the AREA command alter the UCS?
I'm using AutoCAD 2012.
