Followed all the steps found online, but when I select "Join Roof", the cursor will not select any of the edge lines (tried on multiple roofs). Software Error? Revit 2014 Architecture.
View 1 RepliesI have two roofs that I am trying to join. It consists of two Gables. The eaves and type of cuts are the same, but it still says they can't be joined. Attached is an example of what is happening. The shown highlighted image is actually what I am trying to achieve.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am drawing up my house in Revit to get use to the software. I created my house, and now my garage. I selected to create a roof by footprint but when I tried to join the roof to the adjacent wall, the overhang does not follow. I then selected the overhang to join to the adjacent wall but an error pops up: "Part of the roof to be joined misses the target face."
I attached a PDF of the roof.Also, you will notice a line that separates the two walls I joined together. I may separate them but how do I avoid this if I want to make one solid wall?
As for the wall selection, I have vinyl siding and would like to use properties that relate when selecting my exterior walls. I do not see anything regarding that besides wood siding. I thought that should be in my properties when I downloaded and purchased the software.
I have a generic 5" thick rectangular concrete roof layout with a single directional slope of 1:3.
Is there a way to have the bottom and upper edge-faces be square (Two Cut - Square) to the slope and not vertical (Two Cut - Plumb) ?

I am trying to get my drawings into revit but I am stuck on getting the basic form of the building in Revit.
Since I am using slanted walls I need to work with a Mass but I can't get the mass look like my idea. The picture I attached is a simple screen capture of Rhino with the outline of the building.
How to make a dormer or cricket that's inset from edge of roof? The inset (for a chimney) has me stumped. Attached screenshot shows my approach using slope arrows but it's not working with the inset.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI needed to make a dome-like feature and the only way I could get something that looked even close to what I was modeling was to use the loft tool. I've attached the model of what I'm talking about (it's Inventor 2010) The problem is when I try to make a drawing for it, it won't show some of the lines on the dome feature. The only way the loft would work was if I checked the "closed loop" button. I tried checking the box in the drawing saying show tangent faces or something like that and that didn't work either.

I need to calculate area of the roof created in 3d autocad 2009 using the command edge mesh.
I cant convert it to solid or anything else. This roof if created using 4 arcs joint together in 3d environment and with command edge mesh.
3 lines. 2 arcs. All coplanar, all meet end-to-end.
I set "Units/precision" to 0.00000000 and inspected them. They are all x=0 for each endpoint, therefore coplanar. I also did a point "ID" command and checked each endpoint approaching from both sides and confirmed that each pair of results was identical, so all the ends meet exactly.
I was under the impression that Join or at least PEDIT should be able to combine coplanar lines/arcs that all meet end to end into a polyline. Also, using the Express Tool's "FLATTEN" command doesn't work.
The reason I'm doing this is because I've drawn lines/arcs that trace along the midpoint of a sheet metal's material thickness, and this sheet metal has two bends in it and isn't flat anymore, so converting the lines/arcs to a single polyline will tell me how long the flat plate needs to be that will be ordered to create it.

In sketch mode, there is a function to split lines, but I don't see one to join lines.
(I'm talking about colinear lines with the ends touching - I want to convert two lines into one).
It may seem trivial, but I'd like to use these lines in frame generator to select by a single line and not by endpoints of two different lines. Less clicks and more consistency in my model.
Need macro to merge and join all overlapped lines after flattening so I end up with a basic flat 2D outline.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo the problem I am having is when I try join lines and/or make a polyline. I am trying to model an electron lens and have all the measurement and angles correct but Autocad does not want to allow me to join the lines so that I can make a 3D model for export. When it does allow me to join all the line or make a polyline, the lines are not straight. Granted I have to zoom in to see the deviation in the line but my connecting lines are not orthogonal like they should be. Here is a picture of what I am trying to make.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an existing roof with a new dormer.NEW dormer is created in a view with phase filter set to Show Existing+New Shouldn't the roof opening be shown as demo in the demo view??
When the opening is selected, the properties show the Phase Created=Existing and it is grayed out and not able to change to New Construction.

I am currently doing an MEP project and I am tidying up the model at present. I am having problems attaching the walls to the roofs. There could be a simple solution but I haven't found it yet !
I have tried attaching top base etc. but its not working. I only seem to be able to select one side of the roof when selecting where to attach the walls. I have attached 3d pics showing the walls that are extruding & also one of the walls that I am trying to attach.
I have included a picture of the roof I am working on. As you can see I have 2 different roofs set up here, which doesnt look very good. I was wondering if there is a way to create one roof with 2 different slopes like I have here? I would like it to start out at a 3/12 slope for the first 4 feet and then switch to a 6/12 for the rest of the roof. I have not been able to figure out how to get this to work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a simple shed roof attached to the sloping walls of a rectangular building. 4 walls, south wall 10' h, north wall 11" h, and the east/west walls joining them are therefore sloped.
I want to attach a simple shed roof to the top. Here's how I think I should do it:
1. create a new workplane aligned with the top of the walls.
2. switch to that workplane.
3. use "Roof" - Extrude" option to create the roof.
Assuming I'm correct in my steps above, I should be able to create the roof.
QUestion - How do I CREATE a new workplane where there is no object already to choose? Program won't let me create a workplane in workplane viewer by picking the tops of the four walls (in any of the tiled views). What am I missing?
I'm working on a blueprint and trying to get my roof to do something besides a straight slope, but it isn't going well. I need the roof to curve from the corners inward to the point, like the top of a Japanese pagoda.

I give the roofing membrane a thickness and try to save and I get an error message saying that it needs to be 0" thickness. I set the thickness to 0" and I get an error message saying that it needs a thickness. How do I get pass this Catch 22?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've attached a couple images of a visibility problem I'm having. The ROOF image shows the underlay view I'm using in the NO ROOF view in my revit project. I modeled all four of the dormer roofs the same, in place roof components, and they show up in the roof plan, but not when I use the roof plan as an underlay for my framing plan.
They don't show up when I toggle on the hidden elements tool either. I checked to make sure I didn't have coarse scale visibility turned off as well as if I had not visible in plan unchecked. These things seem fine, plus, as you can see, it shows up in it's own view. View range seems to be fine too. I can't figure out why these elements don't show up.
I had downloaded R.A 2012 last year and activated it. This past November, i had issues with my tower and reset it back to factory. Now I downloaded R.A 2013 first and now i can not download 2012 even when i go to "My Downloads" and try to reinstall it through Autodesk.
I have a project that requires 3 buildings and i am having a hard time making a roof for the second building. Some reason, I get "unable to create roof" when i get to the second building.
I am trying to make a unique roof but I have had many failed attempts for hours now. Attached is a photo of the roof overhang I am trying to mimic and a crappy sketch showing the same thing. The roof has a normal gable on one end, but on the other. I need the over hand to go out three feet, then into a point at six feet at the same slope as the entire roof. NOT a hip roof which seems to be the only they I can make it. I even tried making a separate roof piece and it still didnt work.
