I need to copy and paste path segments in order to create uniform serifs for letters. (For example, specific path curves).
So imagine I have a horizontal segment and a curve segment. I mouseover each one seperately and I can see they have anchor points where I want them to merge afterwards. I drag one towards the other to make them intersect. Then I try to select both anchor points and press CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + J, but it displays this error: "To join, you must select two open endpoints. (...)" Which makes me think I'm not really selecting both anchor points when they're overlapped.
I have the idea that they can't overlap, because my path segment won't detect the anchor point in the other path. They're just visually intersected but not connected.
If I try to join them when they aren't overlapped, they will join but distort the original shape of the path segments. I select them both with the Direct Selection tool, pressing Shift to add the second anchor point to the selection, which won't work when they're overlapped because Shift + Clicking will deselect the anchor that seems on top.
I also tried various shape modes in pathfinder and nothing works.
How can I properly overlap and join / merge them?
(I'm using a white fill so I can see the shape forming as I add more anchor points so I'm sure they aren't joined).
I came across this site a few weeks ago and was happy to see that a community like this existed. I am new to CorelDraw and have been playing around with it because my friend just bought a Roland GX-24 vinyl cutter and I wanted to make some designs for it. I, however, am overly experienced with Photoshop and not enough with CorelDraw, but would like to balance that out.
I came across my recent predicament when I exported my CorelDraw image into Roland CutStudio and it wanted to cut all the underlying curves from each layer, instead of the black and white image as it appeared. I wasn't surprised this happened because I couldn't figure a way to join/ merge the curves before I exported, but I was still hopeful that it might cut the image as it appeared.
This first object is a blade layer and as you can see from the picture, when selected, its curve goes right through the other spiral object. How can I merge these curves? As it stands right now, I can't even figure out a way to select the two of them at the same time, let alone join the curves.
....and vice versa in this picture, the spiral object when selected goes right through the blade
....and in the foremost layer of the image when selected, the curves also continue through the spiral
Here is a picture of the current layers for this whole image. The front layer I paint bucket filled numerous portions of it with white so it stuck out above the bottom two other layers, so all the fills make it a group of 161 objects, and the next layer is a group of 2 objects which are the spiral and the blade from the first 2 pictures.
My question is how can I merge or join all the curves in the entire image, essentially flattening the whole image as it appears?
I created many lines, and joined them together nicely..Now I have a closed complete 2D shape...I want to extrude the shape, but...
I think I need to join all the lines to become a single line first...I can't find this command... How can I unite all the lines together
3 lines. 2 arcs. All coplanar, all meet end-to-end.
I set "Units/precision" to 0.00000000 and inspected them. They are all x=0 for each endpoint, therefore coplanar. I also did a point "ID" command and checked each endpoint approaching from both sides and confirmed that each pair of results was identical, so all the ends meet exactly.
I was under the impression that Join or at least PEDIT should be able to combine coplanar lines/arcs that all meet end to end into a polyline. Also, using the Express Tool's "FLATTEN" command doesn't work.
The reason I'm doing this is because I've drawn lines/arcs that trace along the midpoint of a sheet metal's material thickness, and this sheet metal has two bends in it and isn't flat anymore, so converting the lines/arcs to a single polyline will tell me how long the flat plate needs to be that will be ordered to create it.
I need to join multiple lines to a new polyline..The lines are filtered by a selectionset
Dim oPline as new Polyline()
For Each oSel As SelectedObject In acSSet
Dim oEnt As Entity = TryCast(acTrans.GetObject(oSel.ObjectId, OpenMode.ForRead, True), Entity)
oPline.JoinEntity(oEnt)
End If
Next
The error occurs on the oPline.JoinEntity(oEnt)
In sketch mode, there is a function to split lines, but I don't see one to join lines.
(I'm talking about colinear lines with the ends touching - I want to convert two lines into one).
It may seem trivial, but I'd like to use these lines in frame generator to select by a single line and not by endpoints of two different lines. Less clicks and more consistency in my model.
So the problem I am having is when I try join lines and/or make a polyline. I am trying to model an electron lens and have all the measurement and angles correct but Autocad does not want to allow me to join the lines so that I can make a 3D model for export. When it does allow me to join all the line or make a polyline, the lines are not straight. Granted I have to zoom in to see the deviation in the line but my connecting lines are not orthogonal like they should be. Here is a picture of what I am trying to make.
The main problem area is the gray part three electrode 1.2.pdf (Don't know if you can see my attachment)
three electrode 1.2.dwg
I want to join multiple lines together like join command but with multi selection.

you can see this in the attached image. under the big rock and in the sky on the right.
I've got a series of lines that all join perfectly with round corners except 1 of them. See attached. I can't figure out why.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAs more and more clients, subs, etc., etc are requesting pdf's more and more often, the issue of "lines merge" vs. "lines overwrite" (and therefore, pdf "flattening" when printing a pdf) is becoming more of a topic of discussion in our office.
I know we're not the only office making pdf's that have to be "flattened" (thereby taking a huge amount more of time to print) when sending to a printer.... but not *all* pdf's we receive need to be flattened so there are some offices that don't have to deal with this issue.
The question is this:
If you use lines merge = on in your autocad, do you have a way to get pdfs that don't need to be flattened? (printing to dwf then pdf is not a reliable option either, as that does not consistantly honor the lines merge feature between dwf/pdf either)
If you don't use lines merge then how do you set up your drawings to allow for easy draworder handling? (and do you use solid hatching patterns in your drawings, which we rely on alot)
Followed all the steps found online, but when I select "Join Roof", the cursor will not select any of the edge lines (tried on multiple roofs). Software Error? Revit 2014 Architecture.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a bit of a newbie to illustrator cs6. I have been using the image trace function so that I can edit my hand drawn pictures. I 'Place' the scan of my drawing and then go to Object>Image Trace>Make and Expand. The problem I have is when I want to join two lines together to close the shape (as below).
I have tried simply dragging the anchor points and reshaping the line so it appeared to be closed, I have tried closing it with the pen tool and I have tried to 'path>join' them but this box comes up.
I want to be able to fill my image traces with colour easily, can this be done?
Drawing: line, arc, line.
arc was defined with line's end points and radius, so I'm positive that this drawing is continuous.
Steps I take:
pedit
click

Select objects: 1 found
Select objects: 1 found, 2 total [enter]
Select objects:
0 segments added to polyline

I had no problem turning other arcs into polyline...

Merge Lines in PC3 'Device and Document Settings Tab' does not work when creating PDF's - but the same CTB works fine if I print to (2) different plotters and (3) different printers. We use gray for backgrounds and use black thicker lines for detail work. For many years we have had to make sure to send the backgrounds (gray colors) to the back (draworder) before plotting. It is not practical to do this every time we plot. I'm willing to use another program to create PDF's but I haven't found one that works.
My boss wants everything plotted with lines merge, however, all of my parcel labels will not plot with the text masked. The mask plots fine when it is set to lines overwrite.
ACAD Civil 3D 2012.
address the background masking of mtext, mleaders and dimensions. To be independent of lines merge/overwrite would make simple everyday life much better.
We are still having to use wipeouts instead of this "new feature".
All firm drawings are printed using lines merge.
Try plotting to a PC3 format with Line Merged option on under the properties for the plotter. Note how the contours continue through the text.
Try plotting with Lines Overwrite. Note how the contours don't go through text.
Any users out there saying they cannot use the "Lines Overwrite" option and need something else so they can still use the Lines Merged option and have their contour text looking good. How to get this in a SP or HF soon. Otherwise it may be deferred to 2010 and so on and so forth.
The command to JOIN two overlapping anchor points as a SMOOTH join is not working (at least, on Mac).
"The join option only results in a corner join regardless of whether you select anchor points to join or the entire path. However, for overlapping anchor points, if you want the option to select a smooth or corner join, then use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+J (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Option+J (Mac OS)."
I am 2 days into using X6 instead of X4 attached to my trotec engraver, using XP.All goes well with the print to the trotec job control, with it picking up the red vector cut line.
But if I print multiple pages, or use print merge (which is essentially the same thing), the cut line only prints as red on the first page. From then on the print line is some grey colour and consequently the laser does not pick it up.
Have tried changing colour conversion to the Trotec, but this doesn't have any effect.
"An internal error occurred when overlapped buffer is full."
That is the message I am receiving when I try to make my project into a video or audio file.
I have two audio tracks which have only two effects added to them.
What is wrong?
I'm trying to create a star icon with lines through it. I used the star shape builder tool and then the line segment tool, but the lines are not being recognised as part of the star shape. For example, when I try to turn the star, the lines remain in the same place. This is pretty much exactly what I am trying to make, but I can't form the segments into one cohesive, editable shape.

A customer brought me some DWG plans, five files' worth. He wants pricing on cutting it out of wood. The cutting part won't take long, but fixing the file will. I could see that there were multiple lines because some lines were thicker. When I select one of the thicker lines and delete it, it's gone. So I knew there wasn't a second line below it. Then I tried Ctrl-K, to break apart the curve. Wow, some of the lines had 23 copies! So I would hold Ctrl, de-select one of the lines, then hit the Delete key to erase the other 22. This will take a lot of time to clean up like this. Do you know of an easier way to remove these excess curves?

Here's an example:
I'd like to know if it's possible to remove the overlapped bits of screenshots in the upper and bottom left corners and the text in-between using GIMP. The second picture is merely for reference of the material missing(I'm not sure if it can actually be used because the quality is not the same, and I believe the colors are a little off). And if it's indeed possible, how it can be done.
I created 8 points (4 locations with 2 depths in each location) in the DWG of my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 project. I grouped these 8 points into 2 Point Groups: Point Group 1-high depth has Points #1, #3, #5, #7, and Point Group 2-low depth has #2, #4, #6, #8. I changed the 2D Wireframe to 3D Wireframe and on TOP view I saw Point Group 1 is on the top of Point Group 2 (because the 2 Point Groups have the same values of X- and Y-coordinates with different Z(elevation) value - see the first attached file. How can I change the TOP view to the TOP-FRONT view by using some Command to get this fixed TOP-Front view thar has the good separation of the 2 depths as shown in the second attached file?
