AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Add User Contours And Extract Polylines 2012
May 21, 2013
I know 2013 are more exposed and the .net can extract contours. However using 2012 at the moment. so my plan is using .net to add the user contours and then use com object to extract.
so far i can get the surface object and assign to two different surface variable one is .net and one is com. I am looking at the surface analysis object and can't figure out how to add contours at user elevation. it is also read only in the surface object. but i find this:
SetContourData
(analysisData()
which is obvious not read only. so any sample code of the procedure of assign user contours?
trying to create a model from existing polylines (at elevation). I have created a surface, went to definiltion, drawing objects, but there is no "polyline" option there. I must be missing something. How can I create a c3d model from existing polylines?
I am creating a surface from polylines and the surface is not being created per the what the polylines represent. These are simple 5:1, 3:1, and 3.5:1 slopes. The surface wants to create curves instead of straigtlines (see attached).
I want to extract contours with elevation labels from a C3D 2011 surface for use in another 2011 drawing without the surface, as polylines and labels. Is there a way to do this?
I have defined 3 user-defined contours for various elevations in my pond. I would like to disply them differently from one another, so I set their display styles in the analysis window where I created them. Unfortunately, the are only displayed per the settings in the surface style which is 1 - not what I want and 2 - all identitical. I have tried various settings in the surface style, but the contours will not display the way I have selected in the analysis window.
In the surface styles dialog under analysis you can edit elevations, colors, etc. EXCEPT for user contours. What I would like to do is edit these for user contours, then when I created it there would be a default of sorts.
is there any way to set a default for user contours in the style?
I have a drawing with 3D polylines that will be used to build a surface but many of them cross each other.
I would like to extract the vertices of these polylines and use this information to build the surface but can't figure out an easy way to do this.
I have tried the Points at Vertices Automatic which is ok but as there are 300 or so 3D polylines this will get very tedious very quickly - is there a better/quicker way to do this?

trying to create contours from an exiting survey file. I am new to Civil 3d 2012. What I need to accomplish is create a 3d topo from the points with contours and then create a 3d model of the area.
I have a existing ground surface drefed into a model and am trying to get a user defined contour at a set elevation but nothing appears. I have userdefined layer on in the surface style and other ideas why it will not appear?
I have been having this issue for a few weeks, where my contour lines will not plot in paper space, but the labels do. If I plot from model space everything shows up. All layers have been checked and nothing is frozen or turned off in the viewport.
I drew a cube using polylines by changing ucs. I want to join the polylines so that the cube contour becomes one single object.
Since the lines are in different planes I can not join them. How could I unite those 12 lines so they become a cube non solid(I plan on placing a sphere inside some of the cubes and then use "shade" for visualization so if the cube is solid I won't see the spheres).
Some background: We have a composite surface of existing surveyed contours as a TIN pasted into existing aerial contours that we received from a client. We used polylines to generate our proposed contours, and then generated a proposed surface from that. We've made a blank surface, pasted in the existing surface, and are trying to paste in our proposed surface... only the existing contours outside of the proposed suface no longer line up correctly once we do.
We've tried applying the method laid out here: [URL] ........ (and the link referenced in the bottom) but are still having trouble getting the surface to work. We've tried offsetting as little as 0.25' and as much as 5' with the feature line draped over the existing surface, but it seemed that the greater the offset, the greater the discrepancy.
Just to make sure we even tried that correctly - should the breaklines that we add be standard or non-destructive? (I've tried it both ways with little success either way, so I don't know if it matters much in this instance, but perhaps for future reference it would work.)
I've attached a screen shot of our surfaces. The pink and green lines are the proposed contours, the white dashed are the existing. The outer red line is offset 0.25'. As I've mentioned, we've tried offsetting various amounts with decreasing success.
A quick lisp routine to extract the elevations of a selection set of 2d polylines? I have a massive "contour" file composed of 2d polylines with elevations. I need to find the min and max polyline elevation in selected areas. I can't figure out how to extract just the elevations of my selected polylines so I can quickly see the elevation values?
I created walls for a structure by drawing a simple polylines and extruding it by the Z axis, so that i get a vertical plane. I created a number of such planes in the layer. I want to extract total area of this layer which has these polyline extrusions (planes). I know the command of add area, but it is a tedious process and does not work for curved planes. How do I extract the area for the entire layer in one go ?
If a drawing is opened by another user, I want to retrieve the name of that user. I presume that is in the dwl locking file. I I can't find any info on this topic. How do I read/extract the user name from a dwl file with .NET/c#?
Whenever I select a block or polyline in 2012, the program hangs for about 1 minute. This never happens when using 2010 on the same system. Obviously this can't continue.
I have a server running Windows 2003 and I need to have limited users be able to run Autocad LT 2012. Every time it runs, Windows Installer pops up for a very short time and AutoCAD never actually runs. I believe that the pop up is for the English Language Pack, but I cannot be positive about it. I have already read the KB article on running as a restricted user, URL.... and the environment does not prevent the user from accessing any of the registry and file locations specified. I have tried many things to get this to work, but nothing seems to do it. One notable thing that I tried was to make the user an admin, run the program, then remove them from the admins group, but as soon as I remove them, they are no longer able to run it.
We are using 64bit Windows 7 & Inventor 2012. We got the drawing tools to show up correctly on one machine, but can't get them to show up as an add-in on a second machine. We've uninstalled & re-installed the tools. registarted the tools many times. Nothing seems to be working.
We are having issues with text height and variations depending on how the text is added.
I am currently adding etching to sheet metal parts by using the user parameters (which are driven by 3rd party source, excel file) and using a cut extrusion -1mm.
We have developed a marco which detects the shape of each letter and adds etching to our sheet metal program manually. We do this to get rid of the double lines when you cut text into a part. Our process is design in Inventor, unfold then convert to DXF 2004, where we import to our SM programming package (Radan).
I have noticed that when using 10mm simplex if the text is driven by parameters and 10 point text is selected the charecter height is 9.9928mm, however if the text is added manually it measures 10mm exactly. Why is this happening? It is probably of no concern to most, but we would need to add extra charecters to our macro to account for the descrepency, and in turn would take the macro longer to run.
When the text is added by user parameters, you can briefly see the 10mm text height flash to 9.99mm when finishing the edit sketch. Changing this to 10mm again has no effect.
what is causing this, or have any alternative ways of adding 10mm simplex single line etching to a dxf from an Inventor 2012 SM part?
i'm exporting a surface from 2013 to be used in 2010 for presentation. works great but the contour interval is not the same as the surface i'm exporting. working in 5/25 contours...xml import comes in with 2/10 contours. looked for a setting but can't seem to find.
I'm drawing a topo and trying to figure out a way to manually smooth out my contours. I'm not talking about the little jagged edges that you can remove if you use the smooth surface option under surface properties but the big ugly looking jumps you see when contouring a relatively flat lot. In the ancient version of AutoCAD my company used the contours came in almost like splines and you could move the vertices around to make them look good. I know you can go in and delete some TIN lines and edit point elevations but that is very time consuming and I'm hoping there is a quicker way.
I know I can extract them into polylines but there are too many little segments to be useful. I've seen the SIMPLIFY SURFACE option and while that takes away some of the roughness it creates some as well. Is there some better option than extracting and then drawing a spline between the parts I want to smooth out? These contours don't need to be 100% accurate, I just need them to look simple, like if someone was drawing them by hand.
I have added contours to my surface (the blue lines). For some reason the surface generated contour (the orange line) is jumping across the contours I've added.
My TIN surface either did not generate contours or did not display them on my drawing. I created and tried surface styles of many contour intervals(from 0.5' and 4' to 2' and 10') without success. I made sure my contour layers on both the Style Dialog box Display Tab and Layer Properties Manager were turned on, still no success.
When I generating contour(surface) using Civil 3D it gives very complicated contours. Some times those contours cuts each other and have very strange shape.
I used to use SURFER software to generate contours. It gives simple contours. But I like to use Civil 3D because.
I attached SURFER contours and Civil 3D contours. I also attached AutoCAD file those who using older versing of Civil 3D.
I know how to smooth contours in Civil 3D but it does not solve my problem. You may say "You should use commands like swap edge, delete line .
We have a total of three machine at our office that are running 64-bit Windows 7 with Civil 3D 2013. Two of the three machines have problems with drawings that include AECC_Contours. When you try and start a polyline or line the mouse will begin to jump and lag. As you move the cursor off of the AECC_Contours the mouse returns to normal operation. I have looked around throughout forms and have yet to find anything that relates to this. Also I have disable Aero within Windows, thinking that may have been the issue. All three machines are running the same version of Civil 3D with the latest service pack.
While working in a drawing with civil 3D points and a surface created from those points, once in a while the contours will disappear. The contours disappear during any number of different commands, so it doesn't seem to be linked to a specific set of commands. If we save the drawing, close it, and then open it back up the contours are there with no problems. Is there a fix for it beyond closing and reopening the drawing. We are using Civil 3D 2010 in our office, and all of the current updates.
Im working in Civil 09. I need to adjust the surface I created in order for the contours to be correct. Right now I'm interpolating point elevations to adjust the contours. I find myself adding lines and adding and deleting points. It's tedious. I tried changing the grid spacing to smaller one. It didn't seem to work.
I have a surface with a bunch of contours. I want to view the contours at elevation 550. In Microstation there is a set display depth command. Is there a tool in autocad where I can view certain elevations.
I want to make layouts/viewports that are clipped to different elevations. For example I have a surface with 5' contours. I want to create multiple viewports on a sheet showing what each contour looks like at its elevation.
