AutoCAD Inventor :: Correct Total LOD Assembly Mass In View Label Or Note
Jun 14, 2012
I am trying to get the correct total mass of a particular assy variant in a view label. I am trying to avoid using I-Assemblies due to the length of time it takes to set up and inevitable fudging of parts lists with phantom parts when things go awry. Anyway, to get around that clumbsiness, I use a combination of suppresed parts, assembly Level of detail (LOD) and View representations to switch parts on and off for various assembly variants of a theme (which works fine for me). see my "Mass of LOD's.jpg" attachment which should fully explain the parts list filtering and what I WISH to achieve. My objective is to get the correct MASS per Level of Assy and View Rep (both called the same) to be automated, correctly (as per LOD/VIEW REP), ideally, in the view label or in a leader note. I reckon I was able to do this way back in MDT? Any enhancement in Inventor 2013?

I was checking my prints and noticed that the mass for the assembly was not shown correctly. The mass for each component is correct, but the mass for the assembly is less than the total mass of the parts..... how can that be?
Watch this video. The mass for my assembly is reported from iProperties as 10 lbs, but the mass for one of the parts is 60lbs. I would expect the mass for the assembly to be at least 60 lbs, but it is not. I tried a "Rebuild All" and an "Update Mass" on my assembly, but that did not fix it (30 sec mark in the video).
This assembly is part of a much larger assembly (around 35,000 parts). There are several more assemblies doing this and I need to get the mass correct.
I am using 2013 x64, SP2.

How I can get my parts list to show a total weight? Obviously, getting the weight of each part into the parts list is easy. However, I have not been able to find a way to automatically get a total weight for the entire assembly.

I'm laying out a drawing with all tabletops used in our project for a linolium- fitter to set a price on covering the about 12 tabletops in total.
I dont know if this is correct English or if it make sense at all, but what I was wondering about was: Could you retrieve the total m2 of all the tabletops in a drawing? Or do I have to go back to the aim and get them one by one?

I have an assembly that i need to know the mass of, easy enough, however the assembly needs to be weighed without some of the parts in it. I hought i could simply uncheck "enabled" of the unwanted parts and re check the mass, however it does not change. Any solution besides adding the wanted parts individually?

I am having a problem with an assembly not showing the correct total mass of all of its components and sub-assemblies. The value is out by nearly 20%, over 3000kg!
I have narrowed the mass discrepancy down to a derived part of a sub-assembly. But this incorrect mass is only present when I navigate to the derived part's iproperites via the browser tree of the higher level assembly where I am having the mass problem. It is as though the top assembly got some of its mass property information from a previous point in time, i.e. possibly before the derived part's mass properties were updated, and now refuses to look at the current information.
By the way, I have opened up and checked the mass properties of each sub-assembly and the derived part; and when opened individually these show as correct. I have also tried 'Rebuild All' with no success.
Is it possible for mass properties in an assembly to become corrupted?

I have an assembly file in which I have created several levels of detail. My intent was to suppress specific parts in the assembly (for views in the idw and to calculate the weight of the assembly).
I have noticed that the mass is incorrect for the level of detail that I want calculated. I determined this after creating a new assembly and deleting all parts that were not used in this level of detail. And, by viewing all parts individually and adding them up by hand.
All parts in the assembly have the correct density. I have selected to calculate the mass properties of the active level of detail when updating.
My questions: Am I correct in assuming that the assembly will caculate only the parts that are not suppressed? Or, am I thinking of it wrong? Is this particular assembly messed up? I haven't noticed this before and am now concerned that my weights have been incorrect.
My solution to use right now is to create a new assembly just for figuring out the weight. I think there is a better way.

Each time when I place a part in base view, have to follow few steps; go through view label, format Text, than choose type option - [Properties-Model] and its property - [Part Number], than placing dimensions. it takes long time and very repetitive, especially, when placing a hundreds of parts and I was wondering if there is an option, to set up view label; [Properties - Model ]& [Part number], as a DEFAULT. So, each time placing a part, in base view it will come up with correct label. Also, overall dimensions, can it be retrieve using parameters of the part?

I was wondering if it is possible to use an expression in a general note label? The type of label I am using is a general note label that displays our finish grade profile elevation in plan view. What I am trying to do is add a value to that label for the TC elevation and G at the ROW. I noticed in the settings tab of the tool space, surfaces has an expression button that has what I want but I am not seeing that under General/Label Styels/Note. Is it possible to right my own expression? We are using Civil 3D 2008 with Windows XP.

In the drawings for my company, we will list notes along once side of the page using multiline text as a numbered list. Each number corresponds to a label I then use to mark up my drawings. My label is usually some sort of symbol with a number inside of it. Pretty standard. My problem is, when I want to add a note somewhere in the middle of this list, the numbering changes for everything after the insertion point and I have to go through the drawing and update each label individually. On complicated drawings I want to make sure I don't miss updating a label or see if there is a faster way to update everything. Is there a way to have a label of some sorts with a number that automatically updates to match a certain note so if I add a note in between or delete a note I don't have to change every single note?

I have note labels in one drawing. An Elevation style that list the elevation of the insertion point. The label texts are dragged to new locations. When I xref this drawing in to another. The label text shows at both the insertion points and the dragged locations. What's going on??
I've made sure the labels aren't duplicated on another layer. If I change the layer of the dragged text and do an Xlist in the drawing they're xrefed in to. The dragged text list on the layer I've change it to. The text in the original position lists on layer 0, which is the default layer for creation.

Having problems with parts lists not showing the correct part numbers of the parts included in the assembly. In some cases I've made a new part by renaming an existing part but when I create a parts list it shows the part no of the original existing part used to create the new part, even though the new part is the one in the assembly. Also I have just had a number of similar assemblies and needed to produce parts lists for them. I created the first one and then used 'save as' to rename the drawing including the parts list. Then when I re-opened the newly renamed drawing I assigned it to it's new assembly. However the parts list did not update to show the new part numbers included in it's new assembly.
Is all this a glitch in the system or is there something in the set-up which is causing this problem?

In an idw views of an assembly with positions aren't represented correctly.
In the iam in is necessarry to update for an correct representation of the position.
But when a update of the view in the idw is forced, the view isn't correct!
I ticked association of the view in the idw.
I also installed the latest hotfix for Inventor 2012.

Question regarding view labels in drawings.
I want to change the appearance of the view label to look like attached snap shot. Is this possible? I have looked through the inventor settings but cant find any options.
As a possible solution I can always create intelligent symbols which update with the drawing (like the standard view labels) but before I begin creating these I wanted to check if there was any other way?

I found some code to add labels such as "Top View" "Left" view etc. to view labels, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm OK with the default "View 1" and "Scale 1/4" that comes up on the multiview but I want the view label to say something like "Flat Pattern" and "Scale 1/4" when I do a flat pattern and same for ISO. How to accomplish that with iLogic?

I'm noticing that on some of my drawings that the view labels are not aligning correctly to the respective views. I have view labels set by the drawing styles to appear at the bottom center of the view by default.
The problem occurs when I go to move the view to a different area on the drawing. The view label ends up on an obscure part for the drawing. When I realign them manually, save, close and reload the drawing, the view labels still appear on obscure parts of the drawing and need to be realigned again. Only some views are doing this and I'm not sure what is causing this. It happens with (but not limited to) base, detail and section views.
FYI, I'm using Inventor Pro 2012 SP1 build 190 64-bit. I'm working from Inventor DWG (not IDW) files.

I have often problem with drawing view labels. When model is changed and I switch to the drawing then the label is moved to an random position. There is possible to little move with view, or edit label text or switch off/on label and label move back to correct position. This is very unpleasant when there s more views in drawing, is necessary to correct each label.
This happen in Inv2013 and also in Inv2014.
Is not there an possibity to minimize this?
Enclosed is example video.

We put several parts on a single drawing sheet and ,to include the part number in the drawing view label, we must edit each view label and change the type to Properties_Model and the Property to Part Number. Is there a way to set the default of a drawing view label to include the Part Number? I tried modifying the styles to include <PART NUMBER> but it the text "<PART NUMBER>" came in instead of the value. To get the value, I had to edit the view label and hit the X with a down arrow to get the part number to show up, which is not much different than having to edit the label and change type and property. I'm looking to avoid all the view label editing as much as possible.

how to edit the view label in the "Styles" dialogue, so I can get the text spacing to where I want it?
I had to change fonts, and it screwed up the spacing. It is "single", but that's like 2x what it formerly was.

I'd like to customize the way our section marker terminators look. More like an architactual style drawing.
I'd also like to add the sheet number that the section is cut from to the section view label.
As far as I can tell, this propertie is not available for insertion in the view lable. Is there a way to make it available?
The need for these changes come from larger drawing sets were the section is cut on one sheet and shown on another. We'd like to link the sheet numbers in both the section marker terminator and view label.

I am trying to rewrite Curtis Waguespack's ilogic code to modify drawing view labels from this post http: [URL]...
The completed label should appear like this
<Description> - Mk <Part Number>
Est Unit Mass = X kg
(Scale 1:1)
At this point I have 2 problems
1. I want to add the physical mass to the second line and would prefer to use the calculated physcial property rather than the a custom iproperty. If editing the view label, it would the property access under physcial properties.
2. I want to rewrite the code so it is selective or per view - in otherwords, I only want it to modify a single view I select once the code is run. At this point I know I need to remove the For loop but I dont have a clue as to how to make it selective.
'start of ilogic codeDim oDoc As DrawingDocument: oDoc = ThisDoc.DocumentoModel = ThisDoc.ModelDocumentDim oSheets As SheetsDim oSheet As SheetDim oViews As DrawingViewsDim oView As DrawingViewoSheets = oDoc.SheetsFor Each oSheet In oSheetsoViews = oSheet.DrawingViews For Each oView In oViews oView.ShowLabel = True
[Code] ......

what i am trying to do is create an iLogic rule that if your drawing view scale is set to the following ...
1:1, 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:12, 1:!6, 1:24, 1:32, 1:48, etc. on the view label for that view it will diplay ...
SCALE: 1/2" = 1'-0"
and so on for the rest for the standard scale factors.
i know it will be some sort of a loop and it needs to check all views when ran for any changes.
i have never done any coding for the drawing side of inventor yet only model coding
