AutoCAD Architecture :: Why Simple Script Files Taking So Long To Run In 2012
Jul 31, 2011
I'm using ACA 2012 with Windows 7 Pro x64 in a stand-alone environment. Lately it seems that even running a very simple script file takes multiple minutes where it used to take 1 or 2 seconds. Also, the script no longer scrolls through the 4 or 5 commamd lines I show at the bottom of the monitor; it just lays there like an egg. This behavior is common to all of my scripts. Also, saves seem to be taking a lot longer than before. I've turned virus protection off to no avail.
I've just started to use AE again (CC version) and I'm trying to make a simple 3D text animation and it seems like it's taking an excessively long time to render. I have a 4 year old MacBook Pro (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB) and it's taking several hours to render and export a 5-second clip through Media Encoder. The animation is just text on a black background. I'm using the ME YouTube 480P preset. The original file is 1920x1080 because I am going to have to chroma key it over some existing 1080p video. I did a little 3D work years ago and this seems like an awfully long time for such a short, simple animation. Is there some simple, common mistake I'm probably making? Should I scale the comp down to 480p?
A few of my design drawings are taking a long time to open from cold. They are not particularly complex drawings and all the files / assembly etc. that are referenced on them are correctly stored and are not corrupt or 'sick'. Why are these drawings taking so long to open? waiting for them is slowing me down considerably.

I am working with Inventor 2013 Professional. For some reason, after a crash last night, Inventor takes anywhere from five to twenty seconds to perform simple tasks. Things like Constraints, geometry projection, and saving are taking way too long. This is all of a sudden.
This is a simple project consisting of 10 simple parts.
I have a vaulted project with about 1000 parts in it and a subfolder within that that has about 250 parts in it.I am told that vault does not manage references outside the project scope as defined by the IPJ which in theis case is at that 1000 part folder level.
If I go to rename the folder with 250 parts in it, it takes up to a half hour. I am having trouble believing that vault can't do better than a half hour to manage the references of a subfolder of a project with 1000 parts in it, when only 250 parts are affected.
Also, I notice a secondary ipj file is created temporarily during the renaming. That ipj appears under an inventor folder under my docs. Can't see why it takes two ipj files to manage one project. Also don't understand why there should be a local ipj file active when I am renaming at the vault level. I am suspicious that this other ipj (named after my company name, indicating a purposeful act) is expanding the scope of reference management since its parent resides at the root Vault explorer ($) separate of the projecy ipj. Also takes way too long to rename individual files.
I was wondering if anyone knew what is wrong with my smudge tool. When I go to use it and apply it to my image, it takes a while to show the affect. Everything else in my photoshop works fine. Oh yeah, I use PS CS if that makes any difference.
When i start corel it takes really long time to create new document. Or when i save document it also takes a lot of time. I resest workspace, clear temp directory, what else could i do?? This all started without any reason. I shout down pc, and now i turned it on, and since then corel is not working ok...
problem when plotting files that have PDF images attached to them and are viewed through a viewport. When plotting, the publishing bar fills up but then stays filled and doesnt disappear. At this point AutoCAD is locked up and I see the file starts spooling. I have several PDF files attached that amount to no more than 500 kb, however, when spooling it racks up to 30mb before in sends it off to the plotter and it takes a very lenghtly wait (up to 60 min). Eventually it plots and sometimes it doesn't plot at all. After a while if I try cancelling the plot, it will start plotting but only half of the page and after that the entire operating system will lockup. We have several machines (6) and 2 plotters in a network and the plotters are shared. Is there a better and faster way to work with PDF xrefs? Could this be a networking problem instead of AutoCAD?

I recently made the switch at work from AutoCAD 2000 to 2012. Right now I’m working with a small drawing and the copy paste option is taking forever, I wasn’t sure if it was the drawing so I went to a previous large file and that takes even longer.
- Dell XPS 8300 running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit with 12 GB of RAM
- AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series with updated drivers installed
- AutoCAD 2012 64-bit SP1
- ACAD Hardware Acceleration is ON
This hotfix is already installed.
This particular file (and a few others) has an issue whereby the computer pauses for a LONG time whenever an XREF is placed OR a copy/paste system command is executed (not the COPY AutoCAD command, but Ctrl+C/V). I have audited and purged the file; there are no audit errors. I also tried recovering the file and it made no difference.
I checked one of the problemmatic files on my machine (different machine but still AutoCAD 2012 and Win7) and the same file has the same issues.
New files do NOT have this problem. I have attached the file. Steps to recreate the problem:
1. draw a simple rectangle
2. try to copy/paste it with ctrl+c/v
3. this other machine and my machine both pause for 8-10 seconds
I'm confident that it's something in the file, but I don't know how to track it down.
Even with a simple IPT that only has a handfull of features, at times it takes a long time (3-5 minutes, sometimes longer) for Inventor to execute a undo or redo command.
Undo file size setting in Application options is set at 1MB (which is teh same setting I used in previous versions).
I am Using Coral Draw X3 & when i drag & drop or copy & paste image ( small aswell as big) takes time and in between it gets stuck & not responding message.
I recently stopped doing freelance design work. For one company that I did a lot of work for, I need to pass on all of my files to their next designer. I have probably over 50 AI files to pass on. What's the best way to get all the files to the next designer?
I have a number of drawings of our facilities that have been added to and revised over the years prior to having an established standard. Most of the drawings are in 2d (lines, hatches, etc.) but portions of the the newer projects were done partially in ADT/ACA (walls, doors, windows, etc.). I need to strip out the 3D information and convert to 2D for an application we will be using. Is there an easy way to do this?
I have done the Save As, Export to, and AECOBJECTEXPLODE routes but all leave 3d faces that can't be exploded any furher. I don't wan't want to use hidden line projection as that creates a very large drawing as all hatches are converted to individual lines.
Our client uses CS 5.5, and Photoshop will continuously take control of pdf and html files. This is without any interraction from the user, and after setting it back to the desired settings (pdf - Reader, html - Chrome), after some time (and doesn't seem to be related to anything the user does, restarting machine etc), Photoshop will snatch control of either or both of these extensions.
Resetting Photoshop preferences does work for a time but it is not long before the issues arise again.
I need to export a .SHP file containing some polygons to a GIS user so he can lay the shapes in a GIS map. The data he needs from me is the outlines of several wetlands I've designed in C3D 2010. There isn't any elevation data associated with the outlines. They are just traced waterlines from each pool set into a layer called "permanent pools." He wants these to show location in a GIS plan.
When I try to MAPEXPORT, and then selct each of my 10 pool outlines, it says "no object selected" in the command line.
One of the users in my office is getting the "AutoCAD cannot continue" error in AutoCAD Architecture 2012. I've read a few of the discussions concerning this issue in earlier versions.
After I plot to pdf, I get an error message: You do not have a PDF viewing application installed. Go to the internet and dowload a pdf viewer. The problem is that Acrobat Reader X is installed on my computer. I saw the thread about Reader X having spooling issues, so I reinstalled Acrobat Reader 9. Still get the same message.I can go to the file afterwards and open it, despite this message, but it is supposed to open from Architecture after it is plotted and it won't do that.
I don't consider myself a minimalist in any way, but I like to keep my personal folders clean of any system files. I recently changed the path for the autosave-folder as it intruded my private work files. The problem is that even though I did change the path, every time I start AutoCAD a new 'Autodesk'-folder is created in my personal folder. It still contains the sub-level 'Autosave'.
We have just installed ACA 2012 on one of our workstations and randomly the crosshairs will disapear in paperspace. We will still get the cursor icon if we hover over properties and paletts etc. We have the latest service pack and ribbon hotfix. Searching hasn't come up with much.
I work on AutoCad 2012. I am trying to find the revision cloud & tag tool. I seem to only be able to place a revision cloud without a tag on the drawing. I don't see a tag option and searching for the option on the help menu has resulted in zero hits. Does AutoCad 2012 not offer this feature or am I looking in the wrong location?
I am using AutoCAD Architecture 2012 and I would like to add a hatch file but all the hatch files are located in the following file C:Program filesAutodeskAutoCAD Architecture 2012ContentPackscp_ADT_UKsupport. Adding a hatch file?
I like to have all my palettes docked, however, the Properties Palette won't stay docked after closing and reopening AutoCAD. Every time I open AutoCAD, the Properties Palette reverts to its undocked status (all other docked palettes stay put). Is there any way to remedy this? It's a pain to have to redock it every time I open the program.
