AutoCAD Architecture :: Roof Suface Hatch (or Material) Display In Plan
May 5, 2013
I have a Material Definition for my Roof Object. I prefer to keep it a Roof Object instead of breaking it into slabs. See Display Properties image for settings. I have Surface Hatch turned on.
Model views show the hatch correctly.
Elevation views show the hatch correctly.
Plan views do not show the surface hatch at all.
How can I get the surface hatch to show in plan? I have tried changing the cut plan height. It seems I am making something more complicated than it should be.

I quickly created a roof and changed the view display to "sketchy". When I show the roof in top view diagonal lines are shown on the sloped surfaces. How do I get rid of them?

I want to change the color of a material definition in 2d wireframe (plan view). For example, for walls, when the mat. def. is checked in the wall display props, the hatching shows orange->color 30.
When I look at one of the materials listed for said wall, in style manager, for that display component, there are diplay components similar to an object format, but in the mat. def. the components control the color (see attached example).
Now is there a "master setting" to change them - I want to change say the plan linework or section hatch to a different color to match our layer color standards or do I have to go into every since display rep. for every single mat. definition and change them or is there a way I can do it once & all will change?
The out of the box objects are great but what I am worried about is that those colors that are given don't work well with our office standard, esp. if we go back to old projects.

1.How can I edit the roof in attached dwg to be like in attached jpg?
One option I think it would be to convert it to roof slab.
What is the disadvantage (if any) to convert ia roof to roof slab?
Can I create it in other way ?
2. In section 2, the first floor walls ends in 90 degrees angle at the roof. Can the walls be edited so that the joint line with the roof follow the roof slope?

I have drawn up a roof plan and want to section it off in big areas. Is it possible to draw a rectangle 48'x200' and have that shape fill the entire roof as close as possible. Basically i need my roof hatched w/ a 48'x200' rectangle.

I am trying to make a typical column and row line layout for a roof plan. I know in acad architecture this is very easy. I am using regular 2011. I went to one of the preset palettes and saw a detail grid. What is that even used for? I basically draw them out at this point in a template.

I am creating a plan of an existing flat roof. The building is rectangular but has a large notch on one long side so the plan is kind of u-shaped. The slope is to the center with a single valley. When I put a split line down the middle it creates plans and valleys to the sides of the notch. How can I eliminate these planes? The entire north half slopes to the center. When I set the sides to "define slope" I get "slab edit failed" message.
Note, the south hatched section is a mansard style clay tile roof. There are parapets at the corners that wrap into the roof. How to I notch the sloped roof?

I am working on some detail drawings. To save time, I simply modify the previous drawings. However, when i need to adjust the height of, for example, a window, by stretching or pulling, none can have the hatched area lengthened or reduced. In ''quick properties", the associative is not applicable if i change it from N-->Y. I'm wondering if i am doing any step wrong.

I just tried to do a solid hatch I was filling some walls in plan. No matter how hard I tried it wouldn't let me do it. I didn't get any message asking if I had closed boundry etc. I have tried again a few times and no good. I rebooted computer, just in case, but still no good. I was doing solid hatching just the other day and am doing nothing different.

what the roof elevation property relates to and why? Actually, I know that it is the initial insertion point of the roof baseline, but why doesn't it update with grip edited changes in the elevation of the baseline? See the attached file. The three x-lines converge on 0,0,0. The roof elevation is stated as 0. Obviously that property is meaningless. Considering the importance of roof elevations and making them meaningful, you'd think there would be some rhyme or reason to that property.

Im new to autocad and started designing my own house in archictecture 2010.
I've been having a propblem with the roof design at the moment, i am trying to get the gable ends of the roof to stand up on a 90 angle on both sides by editing the edges/faces but every time i do this the roof ends disappear so theres a hole in the sides of the roof and you can see into the house. How to do this so they do not disappear?

ACA 2011...what the best way was to add rafter tails to a roof slab. Someone responded (and even attached a dwg) of a way to do it with a curtain wall. I'm not very well versed in curtain walls, though I get around okay with door & window assemblies, and they seem similar, I just don't really know what differentiates them within the program. That aside, any way to create exposed rafter tails more efficiently than arraying mass elements?

I am using 2011 and have created a project for a 2 story structure. I have constructs for each floor, each floor slab and roof slab.
In which construct do I apply the roofline command? I am unsuccessful so far. Does the roof slab need to be in the same construct as the walls?

After having a problem projecting my walls to my roof slab (flat roof), which worked fine in previous sessions; and then trying the standard solutions of making sure my walls clean up properly, etc., I determined the problem was actually in that the walls do not like to project to a roof with components. In my last work session, I added a component to my roof. I switched back to a "standard" roof slab, projected the walls, and then switched back again to my roof with components.

I know that Archtecture uses views differently than the other AutoCAD verticals, but I'd still like to find a solution to this. When I use the 3DCLIP command to create section views of models created in Architecture, the wall and roof objects do not clip correctly. The clipping planes do not create sections of those objects.
Is there a way to get the 3DCLIP command to actually intersect wall and roof objects?

I have section views created from corridor model that also have had materials computed. The cut and fill areas are hatched solid and I want them set as another hatch style but after attempting to adjust the pattern it does not change. How does one change this and have it show? Civil 3d 2013 is currently being used but may have to back track to 2009.

I've always layout my floor plans three dimensional with the tools pallets commands such as walls, rails, door, windows & ect. I always have my walls pre-hatched with the solid pattern which is really effective to the floor plan. Normally when I put windows in the wall the window is clearly shown without the hatch in the wall but for some reason my wall's hatch started covering the windows and I can't seem to solve this problem.

I'm trying to provide the user with some alternative vies of the drawing from within my application.
I picked up this code from an earlier post and have modified it to what I thought should work, but is has no effect on my screen display even after I exit from the form.
Private Sub ComboBoxView_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBoxView.SelectedIndexChanged Dim myDwg As Document = Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument Dim myDB As DatabaseServices.Database = myDwg.Database Dim myTransMan As DatabaseServices.TransactionManager = myDwg.TransactionManager Try myTransMan.QueueForGraphicsFlush() ' Have tried with and without this line Using myTrans As Transaction = myTransMan.StartTransaction Dim vpr As ViewportTableRecord = DirectCast(myTrans.GetObject(myDB.CurrentViewportTableRecordId, OpenMode.ForWrite), ViewportTableRecord) If vpr IsNot Nothing Then Select Case Me.ComboBoxView.Text Case "Plan" vpr.SetViewDirection(OrthographicView.TopView) Case "Front elevation" vpr.SetViewDirection(OrthographicView.FrontView) Case "Side elevation" vpr.SetViewDirection(OrthographicView.LeftView) Case "SW isometric" vpr.ViewDirection = New Vector3d(1, -1, -1) Case "NW isometric" vpr.ViewDirection = New Vector3d(-1, 1, 1) Case "SE isometric" vpr.ViewDirection = New Vector3d(1, -1, 1) Case "NE isometric" vpr.ViewDirection = New Vector3d(1, 1, -1) End Select End If myDwg.Editor.UpdateScreen() ' Have tried with this line inside and outside the 'Using' section myTransMan.QueueForGraphicsFlush() ' Have tried with and without this line myTrans.Commit() End Using Catch ex As SystemException MsgBox(ex.Message) End Try End Sub
I note that I have probably misguessed the direction vectors, but I can handle that by experiment once I get the screen updating.
