View 1 RepliesI often draw over topography lines and use them for reference but I don't want to snap to them. Is there any way to view an object and turn off snapping only for that specific object or layer? For instance, can you make frozen layers visible somehow so they can be viewed, but not snapped to? Or is there another way to accomplish this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have lots of layers and I need to turn off all of them not one by one.
View 9 Replies View RelatedTurn on/off layers in the current viewport only, I’m wondering if there is a command that can be plugged on the “quick access toolbar” by which one can turn on/off layers in the current viewport only.
The available command to do so is “Freeze and thaw in current viewport” (attached) and it sounds it can’t be plugged in the “quick access toolbar”!
Is there a way to plug the command “Freeze and thaw in current viewport” in the “quick access toolbar” (attached)?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a second base view (using Layout/Create View/Base from model space). The problem is, I need it to be rotated from the original base view. However, when I rotate the part in model space, ALL of my views change.
So I guess my question is, how do I create multiple views of the same part that are seperate from the other base views?
i have views lets say 3 views on a sheet but in the list of views theres mores that appears maybe i inserted the extra views that are showing but i deleted them to put them on another sheet
the problem is they show up in the list of both sheet and i can't delete them from the list of the sheet that they were before
I have a part given to me from a customer that has ALL custom planes turned on. This file is large and has many assemblies, part, sub assy's.... too much to go thru one at a time. Can I turn all 'plane views' off at once? Why? Because I find it messy... no other reason.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a weldment with about 200 welds in ti. In my industry being able to track and give each weld a specfic number and log it into the "books" is a big plus. I am starting to detail the assembly i have created and i am running into a problem. I know i can turn all the welds off in views in an IDW file. I can even make levels of deatil and surpress certain welds and such. This is extremely time consumming and not the easiest way of doing this. Is there another way of say turning off two out of five welds in a detail view? If not i think we will be looking for other software options. Considering our larger models will have 750-1500 welds this would be a nightmare.

My alignments have been created not under Sites and I am copying them to different Sites as needed. I am copying appropriate profiles along with them - an existing from surface and 1 proposed.
1. Should I copy the Profile Views? - will this create a copy of the profile view directly over the original profile view?
What are the benefits / disadvantages of copying / not copying the profile view along with the profile?
More importantly,
2. How do I turn OFF-ON copies of the alignments and annotation in my Plan View?
If I right-click alignment properties in a Site and set the Object Style to NO DISPLAY - this turns off the alignment, but not the annotation.
If I right-click on the alignment labels, Edit Alignment Labels - I am looking at a complex dialog box with lots of drop downs - a bit lost in here. What about a 1-click setting to NO DISPLAY the layers like I can find for the alignment itself?
Do I need to create/copy a bunch of new Styles? Not sure exactly where to go or start.
I have searched the Help fine in Civil 3D, I have searched the tutorials and Knowledge Base online, I have searched the Mastering AutoCAD Civil 3D manual, and I can not fine how to turn on hatching in Section Views. I'm currently running Civil 3D 2013.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with a drawing I have been workign on in Civil 3D. In the drawing I have a corridor and many section views thereof. I was performing some section edits and had been working with two model space viewports so I could keep track of the alignment while performing the edits. When I exitd the section editor, one of my two viewports remained aligned to the section of my corridor, though the view had returned to basic model space. When I switched back to a single viewport, I was left with the one oriented to a section view as opposed to my plan viewport. I reoriented the view to TOP only to find that that most of the drawing, at least visually, is missing. A small portion of my corridor is visible, but appears to have been mostly eaten by some digital goblin.
Similarly, only parts of the overlay I had behind the corridor are visible. I can x-ref the drawing into another drawing and everything is visible. I can copy and paste anything I can manage to select in my drawing into another drawing, where it is also fully visible. I have a couple of profile views who are missing entirely, save their axis and band contents, which I can still see. If i rotate the view one way or another, the amount of visible information changes, but I can't get everything back.
I'm teaching myself 3D from a textbook. The text gives an example of how to create a UCS that is located on a 3D example part from the CD that came with the book; this is done using the UCS command. It also shows how to use the viewport presets. I was able to move the UCS as needed around the part, I was able to use the viewport presets to look at the part from different sizes, but if I created a UCS and then used the preset views, the new UCS I created did not stay oriented, but instead appeared to default to the origin. But when I rotated the part with the mouse without using viewport presets, the UCS stayed put.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWithin the drawing title block we have a 'Text' of type 'Custom Properties - Model' which pulls in a custom iprop from a model which is the models finished weight. This is a common way of auto populating title box entries.
The problem is that the sheet populates the text with the info related to the first viewport placed upon the drawing.
Whilst fine when planned for properly, I quite often encounter upon large multisheet detail drawings, that a user when detailing an IAM, will have forgotten to put the IAM view down first, especially later in the drawing series where the IAM is not required and the user is detailing IPT's.
What I am looking for is a way to change which viewport the border properties are related to ideally, so that if a user has forgotten to place the IAM but has placed 20 IPT's down, I could place an IAM outside of the maximum area, as the 21st object but fool Inventor into thinking this was the first viewport placed down, thus populating the border info correctly.
I don't know of a way to do this currently, either with current Inventor functionality, or by programmatic approach - our current fix is to have the user create another drawing sheet, place the IAM outside the maximum area, copy all his IPT viewports across from the first sheet, then delete the first sheet. Is it possible to change the object order of placed viewports with less disruption?
I have a drawing with several views I've saved using the View Manager. Since creating the views, I have created some new layers. Now when I use View Manager to set an existing model space view current, the new layers are set to frozen. When I created the views, I un-checked the 'Save layer snapshot with view' checkbox.
I can thaw the new layers, then use the 'Update layers' button to correct this, but it's a hassle. Why is it freezig layers created after the view was created?
I have a template for sheet creation with all layers on, thawed, etc. When I insert a view on a sheet, there are VP layers that are frozen.I do not want these settings.

I'm using CS4. I have multiple layers of text and I want each one to have a different drop shadow effect. When I try to chnge the settings of one layer's shadow, all the layers change. Is there a way to stop this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm changing views (top, left, etc.), most of the time I have to press the shortcut followed by "Z" to show the object I'm working on, this is a pain and doesn't work well when I'm editing something because it will also zoom to whatever is selected, and not the entire object.
So, is there a easy way to change views without having to pan and zoom every time?
I know there is a command/button to turn all layers back on if most of them are off, and you want them back on. I use it all the time.
My question: is there a similar command to turn them all off? If not, why not? It makes just as much sense to me. Sometimes I want to turn all of them off, and then just turn one back on.
can you turn off XREF layers? i have a set of drawings and in certain layouts, i need to remove layers.

If I want to trunoff/on some layers in different layouts, the best way is to use "vp freeze" column in layers properties manager. This way I can manipulate layers' visibility without altering them in MS or other layouts.
Left to "vp freeze" column there is "new vp freeze". I don't know what is this one?
I was wondering if it's possible to turn snap off on a set of layers whilst keeping it on for others?

I have 2 viewports in one layer tab from that drawing with different scales.
I want to turnoff 2 layers in one of the VP but have them turned on on the other VP.
What is this used for? From reading, it seems as though if you use this command it is a way to turn on and shut off layers?

How can I tell AC to turn off any/all layers that are empty (i.e. have no objects, no block associations, no rasters etc).
I don't want to purge these empty layers as I will eventually need them.
Scenario:
All layers are turned on and visible, after I have purged empty layers that won't be needed, there are still empty layers left I will need to use later, I wish to turn off only these layers.
(There may be 20 or so layers so I was hoping for a programmatic way of doing this.)
I followed all of the steps for creating the fire text and I was able to do up to step 8. when it says to use the smudge tool I cant find that tool. On the main toolbars I only have the blur tool. In step 9 I do not understand how to turn on the view for all layers and merge them all at once ...

View 9 Replies View RelatedHow to turn on/off the layers in a filter?
In our company we use standard layerfilters, so they should be the same name in every drawing (else its gonna be a good idea to do so).
If i know the command on how to turn off of on layers who are set in a filter i can make a macro to do it for me, but i dunno if there is an way to turn of those layers with an command.
