I'm using CS4. I have multiple layers of text and I want each one to have a different drop shadow effect. When I try to chnge the settings of one layer's shadow, all the layers change. Is there a way to stop this?
View 2 RepliesI've been using Photoshop CS2 for several years to enhance my photographs, but just now have encountered something simple I cannot find out how to do.  I have on the background layer a picture of a room interior with the exposure set mostly for the open window, but the rest of the room is very dark. On the only other layer, the upper one, I have the same shot exposed correctly for the room, which overexposes the window area. The upper and lower layers are perfectly superimposed, and the upper layer is at 100% opacity.Â
I have selected the window on the upper layer and want to change the selected area's opacity to blend properly with the window on the bottom layer without changing opacity of the rest of the layer. No matter what I do, changing opacity seems to affect only the entire layer, and I haven't figured out how to isolate the selected area for the opacity change.

I can cut the selection to reveal the darker window on the bottom layer, but this doesn't give me the flexibility I need to balance the two exposures. An opacity change would be ideal.
Whenever I add text to an image, it is set to Times New Roman Automatically and it works fine.
When i try to change the font, or bolden it, add italics or underline my photoshop crashes.
I have tried reinstalling many times, and have also tried using ctrl + alt + shift while relaunching.
So here's what I'm trying to do. I'm working on something that requires two layers. In in one layer I'm supposed to draw something using the lasso tool, and then afterwards go to the other layer and change the upper output level. Unfortunately, it's not working for me and no levels are changing. This process works when I use the line tool to draw in the first layer but not when I switch to the lasso tool.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to replace the gray sky in one photos with the blue sky from another.
I've just gone through several tutorials but can't seem to figure out how to add more than 1 photo into the layers palette.
I open PS CS3, click on the top menu 'file', click "open", click the photo, click 'open' and the photo appears in the layers palette on the right side.
Then I repeat the process with a 2nd photo, and instead of being added in the layers box on the right as a 2nd photo, it replaces the first photo.
If I click the little box at the bottom 'new layer', I just get the blank checkerboard opacity.
How can I get 2 photos to open in the layers box?
On one image I used ripple texture to simulate shine on glass and it worked great. On another image, I tried to do the same thing but the texture is a small repeat pattern and doesn't look like glass at all. I tried to get the effect by changing size and hardness and pattern size of the brush but no luck. What should I do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer.  The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

I'm in the process of designing a cd and I have 10 layers with type on it. I'd like to know how I can change the font in one layer and automatically adjusts all other layers.
Is this possible? I guess it is, now I have to change each layer manually....not very efficient I know :-)
I manually created text around a circle using layers and the text rotating function. Now I would like to change the color of each of the letters. Do I have to individually select each layer to do this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what I did to make this happen or how to change it back, but for some reason when I change the size of an object/line it changes the stroke weight as well. (For example, if I drew an ellipse with stroke weight 2 pt, and then increased the size the stroke weight would be 2.856 pt or some such number instead of 2 pt.) How to change this back?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe attached files are two sprockets. The original part has 30 teeth. I need 34 teeth.
The MODIFIED part has one of my attempts at making 34 teeth. I have tried the following with the same error dialog box (see below):
1. Edit Sketch_6 (associated with Extrusion1) by deleting all but one of the teeth lines (2 arcs and 2 lines that make up a tooth) and making a circular pattern of 34.
2. Same circular pattern, except this time I "Close the Loop" (right-click on one of the teeth line segments > Close Loop > click on all the segments until the loop is closed).
3. Same circular pattern, except this time change the resulting patterned lines into construction lines, trace these lines with arcs and lines of my own (not construction lines), and close the loop on my own lines.
When each of the 3 attempts failed, I tried deleting Extrusion1 and making a new Extrusion feature from Sketch_6. I cannot select what I want in Sketch_6 in order to make the teeth.
I'm at the point where I'm just going to take the dimensions from the circular pattern sketch of 34 teeth, delete Extrusion1 and Sketch_6, and make my own sketch and extrusion.
For the future, I really would like to know - why is it so difficult to alter features like this? Yes, I understand that Sketch_6 is not fully constrained, and on top of this I am not privy to how it was generated in the first place (this is a part file from a vendor). But it does not strike me as something overly complicated for the Extrusion feature to recognize a change in its associated sketch. This is not the first time I have encountered something like this.
With CS6 i loved the addition to combine vector layers into 1 new vector layer but when i do this in PS CC and then try to enlarge it it only enlarges the first shape.

I create 3 squares, vector shapes, i cmd+E the layers to combine them, and then i want to enlarge the new shape..what happens is, only 1 square becomes larger..Â
I've just started playing around with GIMP. I've made two images containing a text to start with. For DPL2.tiff, the resolution (both X and Y) is 72 pixels/in, for DPL4.tiff it is 1 pixel/in.
My question is, shouldn't there be a noticeable difference in quality of the images?
I want to know how to change the size of a layer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I am applying a style to one layer in CS2, and lets say I give it a drop shadow that is different (say it's at 110degrees rather than 90degrees) compared with the other drop shadows in my other layers, the curent layer style will change all the other layer styles across the board. I've looked all over for some setting to change so each individual layer keeps its own style but I can't seem to find this. I want each layer to have its own style attribute and not change the rest, how do I correct this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to change the size of the image in Gimp to 3957x4429 px (67x75 cm) at a 150dpi (the image we have has a 300 dpi.) When i do this in image - print size it keeps changing the width.
The system is not allowing me to get the picture a few cm larger. Is there any way I can overwrite this?
Basically I am making a new pattern of stars, so I created a 1000 by 1000 document, filled with black, added noise, then added an adjustment layer to thin out the noise and make it look like stars in space. It looks great!
How to save it without the effect changing. I tried flattening the image, and it messed up how I wanted it to look. I tried merging visible, that didn't work. I tried just saving it as a PNG, like I do with all my projects, but that didn't work. And defining a pattern did the exact same thing. I just want to have what I physically see on the screen save as is so I can use it with other things.
I am trying to create a children's textile/wallpaper design portfolio digitally and I'd like to know how to change a scan of a hand-painted motif into a tonal range of 1 colour in photoshop.
I discovered the duotone trick, but this changes the whole file (whilst flattening all layers), whereas I want the flexibility of being able to change the motifs on each layer to different colours
I've tried options in the adjustment bar, however these just add colour to the existing colour. Say I have a pink image and want to make it yellow, using the adjustment bar options always seems to keeps an amount of pink in it so it never becomes a true bright yellow, it will always have a browny tinge to it. Also the tiny colour wheel bar in the Hue/Saturation option isn't ideal at picking an exact colour.
My main aim is to try and incorporate my sketches & paintings into my designs, to allow me to work quicker rather than purely working by hand, so I want the flexibility of being able to easily changing colours as I create each design.
I just switched from the GIMP and I am not accustomed to some of the ways in Photoshop. I wanted to ask how to change a layers size only. I don't want to change my whole images size, I just want a part of the image changed. I've been using Image - Image Size to do this,

View 4 Replies View RelatedI generally do my dodging and burning with an overlay layer. When burning, I typically have opacity set between 10 and 15%, and pain with a black brush. The layer is an overlay layer with 50% gray fill.

BUT, when I burn in CS6, instead of just darkening the area, it APPEARS I'm also getting a color shift. I've checked to make SURE my colors are white and black (black in this case), and I've tried changing the mode of the brush from normal to luminosity just to see if that would make a difference.
It's a bit hard for me to word, but when I change my canvas size I want my adjustment layers to have black additional canvas added instead of white.
View 2 Replies View Relateddrawings that I download from commercial vendors, (Grainger, McMaster, etc). I figured out how to get access to them: When I convert them from .DXF to .DWG. it somehow allows me to correctly dimension them.
One more problem I have with these drawings is that although I can edit them, one of the most important things I need to be able to do is change the layer they're on. I can't figure out how. I usually use the "Change to Current Layer", LAYCUR, command, but it doesn't seem to work for these commecially downloaded drawings.Â
They're always in "Layer 0". I've created multiple other layers that I need them in, but I can't get them to move. When I select them and then click on the Change to Current Layer button, they just don't move. 'm drrawing in Model Space.

Proof Colors is off. I can't think of any other setting to play with. This looks like a pretty huge bug to me, and it's not something I remember from earlier versions.
I have problem with layer comps' names. Always, when I close my ps file, names of layer comps in this files are changing. I see that after opening this file. I use photoshop CS5 Extended.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI open a jpg image. It becomes "background" and locked in layers panel. I want to edit it so i click in layers panel, and get a box where I can call the layer a name and it changes from background to layer ( in my beginner´s terminology...)
When I click on "Ok" the image disappears, or really i think it becomes transparent, because in layer´s panel it is still visible. What has happened? I have done well all day, and suddenly this happens.
