Jul 26, 2013A friend came by my desk today and asked me why his AutoCAD would not unselect multiple items when he fences around them. I thought it might be his PICKFIRST setting but that is set to one. What variable controls this setting. His setup only unselects one object at a time whereas my setup will allow me to fence around several select items and using the SHIFT key, unselect all of the objects I fence around.

May 2, 2013A user is having problems when using the copy command in AutoCAD 2013.
When they select objects, its not reporting on the commandline how many objects its found or keeping a running total of objects selected. Not even any duplications...
I've tested it on my machine but i cannot replicate the issue and have never come across this before!
Is it a bug? Is it a variable? User setting etc.

Jun 9, 2013I know of course that the standard way to unselect anything is to click anywhere on the page that is not occupied. But say you're working on something that's all zoomed in. Then, to unselect things you have to zoom out in order to click off of what you're working on.
Then you have to zoom back in to select something else and work on it again. It gets very tedious. If there is another way to unselect all or select none?
AutoCAD 2013 :: Does P&ID Create AEC Objects
Jan 8, 2013The firm at which I am currently consulting uses AutoCAD 2014. My system at home has P&ID. I don't use the object/3d features -- it is just the version of AutoCAD that I wound up buying. (I think it was on special or something.) In any case, some of our drawing files have become too cumbersome to use, especially on the machines at the office, and I wonder if my P&ID is the culprit. The large files appear to have AEC objects that are bogging them down, but nobody has ADT, so we are unsure from where these objects are coming. They may be coming from the client, but I wonder if they are coming from my system. Does P&ID automatically create AEC objects and, if so, is there a way to keep it from doing that?

Mar 13, 2013I am having problems to scale 2d objects I use the command scale but when it request a base point it said "extremely small scale factor ignored" I have to do this 5 or 6 times until the command works.
The other thing is that I can not do a 1 dimension scale in 2D.

Nov 2, 2013Okay so im doing a coursework for university on autocad 2014 education version, at home i had done a vast amount of work on my laptop, went to university opened the file off the usb stick i have it saved on and done some more work to the coursework and saved it. Now that i try to open the file on my laptop some very few objects appear, all the layers are set to visible
Edit - each time i re-open the file some different random objects become visible while otheres dissapear.

Jun 13, 2012When I type in the command "SC" for scaling the object, it'll asks me to specify base point then I can enter what scale I want it to be, such as 2 times or 0.5 for half sacle.
with the new 2013 version, sometimes it'll exit the command if I select the insertion point of the block or if the object is at the 0,0,0 location of the drawing. it'll also give a message of "the scaling factor is too small". But I haven't enter what scale I want to scale the object yet.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Cycle Through A Selection Of Objects?
Dec 6, 2012I have an array of all the same block with a few attributes. All attributes need just slightly different data (like incrementing numbers). It is extremely tedious to select the block, enter the data, cancel the selection and then select the next block. Is there an easy way to select all the blocks up front and then modify them one at a time by "cycling through the selection"? I'm specifically looking for a key-command that will de-select the current block and select the next one so I can stay in my properties window.
It's also worth mentioning that I'm on LT and there aren't enough blocks to make ATTOUT/IN worth it (or possible).
AutoCAD 2013 :: Select Multiple Objects
Sep 10, 2013I have a lot of polylines that are all over a drawing from an outside source. Unfortunately the only unique properties about them are:
AREA = .14 sq in
PERIMETER = 1-11/32"
Everything is on the same layer, color by layer and are at the same elevation.
Any way to select just these closed polylnes? I tried quickselect but the AREA option did not work (it wouldn't except just the .14 value), and there is no apparent PERIMETER value to select.

Jul 3, 2013I just installed Acad v. 2014. I opened up an existing file, went to select a line, but noticed that the line does not highlight when I hover over it like my last version. How do I change the settings so that when I hover over an object, whether it be a line or a cross hatched area, it will highlight that object so I know the length or area of the object?

In these two cases, the only displayed annotation objects are those related to the current scale! Not all the annotation objects are displayed!

Feb 7, 2013Let's assume we have a square drawn and another smaller square inside of the larger square. If i want to figure out the area of the larger square less the area of the smaller square but adding the perimeter of both squares, how do i do that? I know i can select the square and the properties tab will provide the area and i know i can use the area command and choose "subtract area" and do it that way. But my friend tells me theres a way by just selecting both objects that the properties tab will automatically do that for me. But when I select both objects, the properties tab under geometry would just say "varies" and not do the math for me.
I don't know if this provides additional information but he says somehow both objects are linked, like a block where its really one object and not 2, but when you explode it, it becomes 2 objects and therefore will now say "varies" on the properties tab as opposed to doing the math.

Aug 13, 2013Is there any (non programming) solution where I can add custom data/properties to objects in plain AutoCAD?
(I know I can in Civil 3D though, using Notes/Extended Properties etc etc)
We want to allow users to add their own unique ID to all their drawn objects, and we don't want to use Entity Handle as that is not anything we can choose ;-)
We're using that ID to connect other datasources (ODBC) to Navisworks and we would like it to work even from AutoCAD, even though we have Civil 3D inhouse.
using plain AutoCAD straight out of the box?

Sep 22, 2012Learning to use Autocad Electrical 2013. When I edit a symbol such as a circuit breaker, I can't find the linking information for the control panel object.
I know where the panel object dwg file is for the symbols that are included from Autocad. To create a new panel object dwg for the "Panel Layout" in Acad E, I can't see where it is attached, or how it is referanced.
I not sure I made my self clear enough. I didn't see it in block edit for the symbol.
AutoCAD 2013 :: 3D Objects Fade Away When Zoom
Apr 24, 2013I have a problem. When zooming, 3D shaded objects fade away (everything except 2D Wireframe) and it is almost impossible to continue work (see attachment no1). If I manage to draw something on such a faded object (eg, a circle on the side of the box), only part of the screen / object has normal visibility (see attachment no2). Re zooming again cause fading.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Hyperlink Two Different Objects In Model Space To One Another?
Dec 4, 2013I have two objects that I would like to link together in model space. I realize this is easy to do using paper space but I am curious if this can be done in model space.
The two objects are wire connections but they are spaced far apart in my drawing and can be a pain trying to find thier locations all the time. if I could select or click the first connector and be able to pan or zoom to the appropriate connection by link or other means.
