AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Compute Scene Scale From DXF Data
Jan 8, 2014I would like to compute a scale of scene based on data from dxf. I think, should use some data from VPORT like view height and lens length.
View 1 RepliesI would like to compute a scale of scene based on data from dxf. I think, should use some data from VPORT like view height and lens length.
View 1 RepliesI do have a scene with CAD data in it, some of it is collapsed to poly some of it is left as mesh. Now i want to import this data to a scene with a different scale. When doing so, some parts of the object become very large while others shrink to minimum. Only a few parts stay at the correct position. These follwing steps I tried to correct the problem:
- Linking everything to a Helper = FAIL
- Attaching everything to one Object = NOT AN OPTION
- Collapsing everything to Poly or Mesh = Fail
- Grouping = FAIL
Is there anything else i could try to get this dam file merged? Like a Pivot Point Reset to World? Match Scale Pivot Reset...
I have a modell that is made with the system scale set to mm, and try to merge the modell in to a scene with the system scale set to m. The merged modell appear 100 times bigger than it should.
Is there a little trick for this?
VS9 enables users to virtually split clips by scene before adding them to the work space. It does not split the actual file but just keeps pointers to the various scenes. VS9 keeps this data in a file named scenedb.dat. However if the clip is moved to a different location then the scene information is not re-linked and is essentially lost (as far as VS is concerned) although the data is still in the scenedb.dat.
Is there any way to go around this problem and recover the scene info after a clip is moved?
That is, besides not moving the clips to a different folder than the one it was in when the scene data was first generated and/or re-generating the scen information?
I tried simple editing of the file path in the .dat file but this does not seem to work. It would be nice to understand the encoding rule for the scenedb.dat file to 1) update it 2) use it to generate some index db outside of VS (e.g. html page).
I have just updated to Autocad 2013. While working on existing drawings (previously created in V2012), I am having issues with the SCALE command. Most times, but not always, when I add a line or block, with a base point on an existing line or object and try to scale it, I get an "extremely small scale factor ignored" message, although I did not get a chance to enter a scale factor. While it appears most times, but not always, if I draw a new line in empty space on that same drawing, I am able to use the SCALE command without problems. I also have the same issue when trying to scale an existing line or block, most times but not always.
Here is a copy of the command line while I am trying to make it work:
Command: l
LINE
Specify first point:
Specify next point or [Undo]: 100
Specify next point or [Undo]:
Command: sc
SCALE
Select objects: 1 found
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.
Command:
SCALE
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found, 2 total
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.
If you notice, it does not give me the chance to enter a scale factor. As soon as I pick the base point, it skips over to the error message, yet displays the scale factor prompt with a blank factor. I'm experiencing this issue on various files (not all but most), so I don't think it is a corrupt file. Why I get this and if I can correct it?
When I open a new drawing in my AutoCAD 2013 that I just recently installed last week, I encounter a problem that I am not familiar with from previus versions of AutoCAD I have worked on. First of all, the units default to decimal, and I want them to default to architectural, with feet and inches. I have to type UNITS in the command line every time I open a new drawing in order to adjust this. I have AutoCAD for Architecture 2012 on another computer, and the program automatically defaults to architectural units upon opening up. Just to let you know, the program I am having this difficulty with is part of a package called Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013. I was under the impression that it included AutoCAd for Architecture, but I think it has only standard AutoCAD.
The scale of the objects I draw vs. the scale of the drawing field is very out of proportion. What I mean is, when I open a new drawing and draw a 30' -0" line, the line appears so long on the screen that I cannot see the whole object, even if I zoom out to the maximum. I should be able to see the object in it's entirety. In fact, when I draw a line that is only 12" long, even when the zoom is all the way out, the line looks huge in length. I have tried adjusting the units to the architectural/inches setting of course, and I have tried adjusting the scale in model space from 1:1 to 1/4'=1'-0", but nothing is working.
I am trying to insert a block into a file in Acad 2014 and it comes in too large. If I insert the same block into the same file using Acad 2012 it comes in at the correct scale. Doesn't seem to matter if insunits is 0 or 1, or insunitsdefsource or insunitsdeftarget are also 0 or 1.
There must be some variable or variables I'm missing.
I have a block that i would like to scale based on the plot scale when plotting.
We set up our drawings full size and occasionally we want to plot them at half size. We do this by setting the plot scale to 1:2 (custom) in the plotting dialog. We have a few blocks that we want to print at the same size on paper, essentially become twice as big.
Is there is a way to fix the size or just set a few scale states and have them automatically adjust based on the plot scale (not drawing/annotative scale)?
AutoCAD 2013 2D - when scrolling the viewport scale list, the viewport zooms with each scale instantly.

Is it possible to embedd data in a table so that a user can select from a group of data within one cell?
I use this technique quite often in Excel. One cell in a table can have various values: A, B, C, or D. While another cell can have a different set of values to choose from: BLUE, RED, ORANGE, or PURPLE. The user can pull down an arrow (similar to a dynamic block) and choose from a set list of values.
I created a model, assigned materials, and it renders fine if I leave the facetres at the default of .5. My model has curves though, so I need to increase the facetres to at least 3 or 4. If I set facetres to anything, even 1, the next time I render, I get the message that the scene cannot be rendered because it does not contain any faces. My machine is a Xeon, 12gb ram, with quadro fx580, autocad 2013 x64. But this happened to me on earlier versions, and on my previous workstation as well.
Is there some bug with the facetres variable?
I have a large scan project (Scene 5.0's new file structure) that contains a few registered workspaces (*.fws) and I would like to import at least one into AutoCAD 2013. I followed the workflow of going to Insert>Point Cloud>Create Point Cloud, and I selected the *.fws that I wanted to import (or rather have indexed into a *.PCG).
As soon as I hit 'Create' I get an error that says 'FAILURE! Fail to open scan file" and nothing happens. I can import *.fls, but they are not registered.
Does FARO not support AutoCAD 2013?
Data Connect Image Printing problem.I have an Aerial image that I bought in via Data Connect. It's been working well for a while. Suddenly the next time I go to Print, either to the plotter, DWF or PDF, for some reason the entire Image is thrown to the northwest corner of the viewport at a miniscule scale! The image is fine on-screen, until you print or even do a print preview!
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, did an audit before I reconnected, deleted all my Cache files, but to no avail! This is not the first time this has happened, but the last time it did, disconnecting, doing an audit, and deleting the Cache files before reconnected appeared to solve the problem. But this time (just when we upgraded to Map 3D 2012), it didn't work.
I have been through all of the system variable field sources but cannot find one that stores the scale of a viewport. I want to add a field to my drawings that prints the viewport scale and updates it automatically if and when I change the scale.

While I can get them to figure independently of each other (see image 1) I need to have them combined into a single fill category. While I think I am using the subcriteria interface correctly I can’t find an example of a way to set it up to work correctly (see image 2).

I have several hypothetical well bore lines. They are deviated wells which means the lines go straight down from the surface for a bit and then continue down at an angle. I need to buffer these lines in 3D space.
I've used the buffering topologies tool, but all it get is a buffer around the what would be the "plan" view of the well bore. Is there anyway to get the program to buffer around the actual 3D line and compute a volume?
My units are set to decimal. In acad 2004, the dropdown list showed options like 1"=50' In 2013, it shows options like 1/32"=1'-0" How can I get it to display such as 1"=50' like before?
View 2 Replies View Relatedtesting out using link to marked point and volumes i made a 1000' alignment, flat surface at 0, and put a generic lws 10' wide at 0% slope so i would know the real vol in my head to check. i omitted the lws link and then put a marked point at the center of the subassy and then put a linktomarked point and it put the link in ok as shown in the picture. the corridor made a top surface and if i make a vol surface all is correct.
but when i hit the comput materials > earthworks only the eg shows up.
the linktomarked point has top, datum codes by default.
How to compute volume of material bounded by three surfaces in a section view?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to build a location-based quantity takeoff using compute materials (actually using a mix of QTO, composite volumes, and maybe parcels and bounded volumes but this question is specific to compute materials). I have been working on this technical challenge today and hope to have it solved by tomorrow morning.
I created a new 'Quantity Takeoff Criteria' and added materials for the items I'd like to takeoff with compute materials, such as the corridor shape volumes that are not well handled by QTO. So there are structure quantity types for materials Pave1, Base1, Curb, RW.Footing, Wall, and Barrier. But, when I return to Compute Materials I have the option to assign 1 object to each corridor shape named. Here is the problem, there are 36 pave objects named Pave1 and only 1 material Pave1.
The solution I tried is to go back and edit the code set styles to add a location prefix like 99CL1>M>06 to the link names - making 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 objects. But, apparently these are links and obviously not objects so the names did not go through to the compute materials objects list.
The next two approaches are: 1) Go back to the subassembly properties and edit the codeSetStyle with prefixes - I assume this means I'd need a distinct subassembly for each location, a unwieldy situation. 2) Create a specific material and shape pair for each location, for example 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 material and Pave1 shape pairs. An awkward workaround but preferable to defining a specific subassebly to each location.
I need to run two reports one for Cut and Fill, and one for Materials (shapes). I would like two material lists for the same alignment and sample line group.
The process, setup the materials list for Pave, Base, and Subbase. Generate report, delete list and setup for Cut and Fills, run the report. You do this over and over. Autodesk please add a way to save and import these setups, and a way to create multiple lists for each alignment and sample line group.
Note: Why the Civil 3d default for the interlude into the actual Compute Materials dialogue is Pave, Subbase, Base is beyond me, could someone tell the programmers that Subbase is generally below Base. Each time I have to delete the CIvil 3D defaults and redo this step.
I have a drawings with drawer frame (margins left are 25 mm and rifgt, top and bot margins are 5 mm). I don't know how to export them in pdf in right scale. View 2 Replies View RelatedRelating to the printing, could i have a question which i posted in printing box but no response.
Question : Could we use 1 ctb file for all drawings or need to create separate ctb files up to drawing scale?
E.g. we create ctb file for 1:100 but when we use that for details 1:10, 1:5 it's quite light.
We can use scale line weight?
Is there a way in cad 13 to scale vertically only?
