AutoCAD Map 3D :: Buffering Around 3D Line And Compute Volume

I have several hypothetical well bore lines. They are deviated wells which means the lines go straight down from the surface for a bit and then continue down at an angle. I need to buffer these lines in 3D space.
I've used the buffering topologies tool, but all it get is a buffer around the what would be the "plan" view of the well bore. Is there anyway to get the program to buffer around the actual 3D line and compute a volume?

I'm working with TIN surfaces, doing cut/fill comparisons for a surface mine.
My volume surface statistics show a cut volume of 5167.22 cy and fill volume of 8456.18 cy.
The sample line group volume report show cumulative cut of 5527.67 cy and fill of 8465.56 cy.
What could be some causes of this disparity. All reference surfaces are built from points and use a non-destructive boundary.

I have a corridor with an associated sample line group, and I have produced some material volume tables to give me quantities for my corridor structures and cut/fill volumes. When I look at the material volume tables they are at a seemingly arbitrary stationing. The sample line group which the material volume tables are (supposedly) based on are on alignment L1000 and they run from station 1133+73 to station 1154+00 every 10 meters. The material volume tables show volumes broken down by stations starting at station 3719+58.66 and runs through to station 3786+08.92. It is sampling at a seemingly arbitrary frequency, there is absolutely no alignment in my drawing that has stations remotely resembling those numbers, and there is definitely no sample line group it could be using that samples an alignment or stationing anything like that shown in the materials volume tables. I've read a few threads on this way back but cannot locate them. I have two surfaces and create a volume surface and it reported the volume as 493 cy. I then ran some sample lines at 25 foot interval and the total volume is reported as 964 cy.

I want to use it as my primary hydrologic and hydraulic modeler. It only makes sense. Well, I got the program to work and had things linked in and was able to route a storm through the network. But when I routed the storms, I had to model double the storage that i expected.
So I went back to the program I'm familiar with - Pondpack by Benltey - and designed the same system I routed in SSA in that program - and got the storage volume that I would expect for a site of this size - about 2 acres.
Is there possibly a setting that I'm missing that makes my outlet structures route slower or less than they should? Or is there some other reason that a system would give this kind of inflated need for storage?

I have an issue with using Bounded Volume or Adding a Boundary to Volume Surface things so bad... = incorrect volumes.. sometimes extremely incorrect.. I understand that the surface rectangle when a boundary is added but this could be horrible if not checked.

In Compute materials, Eartworks field dialog I have two items in Surfaces section- EG and Datum. When i have to select Object Name for them i only get surface name, but not the corridor which i have created. What is missing?

I am having issues having two separate areas combined into one with subcriteria. While I can get them to figure independently of each other (see image 1) I need to have them combined into a single fill category. While I think I am using the subcriteria interface correctly I can’t find an example of a way to set it up to work correctly (see image 2).

testing out using link to marked point and volumes i made a 1000' alignment, flat surface at 0, and put a generic lws 10' wide at 0% slope so i would know the real vol in my head to check. i omitted the lws link and then put a marked point at the center of the subassy and then put a linktomarked point and it put the link in ok as shown in the picture. the corridor made a top surface and if i make a vol surface all is correct.
but when i hit the comput materials > earthworks only the eg shows up.
the linktomarked point has top,datum codes by default.

I'd like to build a location-based quantity takeoff using compute materials (actually using a mix of QTO, composite volumes, and maybe parcels and bounded volumes but this question is specific to compute materials). I have been working on this technical challenge today and hope to have it solved by tomorrow morning.
I created a new 'Quantity Takeoff Criteria' and added materials for the items I'd like to takeoff with compute materials, such as the corridor shape volumes that are not well handled by QTO. So there are structure quantity types for materials Pave1, Base1, Curb, RW.Footing, Wall, and Barrier. But, when I return to Compute Materials I have the option to assign 1 object to each corridor shape named. Here is the problem, there are 36 pave objects named Pave1 and only 1 material Pave1.
The solution I tried is to go back and edit the code set styles to add a location prefix like 99CL1>M>06 to the link names - making 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 objects. But, apparently these are links and obviously not objects so the names did not go through to the compute materials objects list.
The next two approaches are: 1) Go back to the subassembly properties and edit the codeSetStyle with prefixes - I assume this means I'd need a distinct subassembly for each location, a unwieldy situation. 2) Create a specific material and shape pair for each location, for example 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 material and Pave1 shape pairs. An awkward workaround but preferable to defining a specific subassebly to each location.

I need to run two reports one for Cut and Fill, and one for Materials (shapes). I would like two material lists for the same alignment and sample line group.
The process, setup the materials list for Pave, Base, and Subbase. Generate report, delete list and setup for Cut and Fills, run the report. You do this over and over. Autodesk please add a way to save and import these setups, and a way to create multiple lists for each alignment and sample line group.
Note: Why the Civil 3d default for the interlude into the actual Compute Materials dialogue is Pave, Subbase, Base is beyond me, could someone tell the programmers that Subbase is generally below Base. Each time I have to delete the CIvil 3D defaults and redo this step.

I'm no longer able to control the PP (monitor) volume using my computer volume controls. I've always controlled the monitor volume using my computer volume levels, but starting today, that has changed.
The volume is just playing at the level recorded with no way for me to turn down or up.I performed a disc repair and that didn't solve the problem.

I work for a sand and gravel company, we just upgraded to C3D 2009, and still fairly new at it.. I created a surface using current and final topography to determine how much material will be mined/stripped..
I would like to take advantage of the 3D capabilities and create a 3D view of the material that will be removed.. Am I using the correct function by creating a "TIN Volume Surface" to show material mined in 3D??
(i.e. I picture it like a Peanut, where I have the bottom and top shell, but would like to see the actual nut in 3D.. )

i have a project that needs to get the volume of the certain of the hull of a boat. from 2D i use align command to get the 3D form of the hull. then i to get the shape/surface i use loft command. i am doing it right? but from the moment i tried to get the volume using massprop command it says, "no solid or region selected" see attached picture. and also as i tried to use the m2s.lsp it says "not a polygon mesh". the non-coplanar thing i always encounter. can you teach me step by step to get the volume of the hull?

i'm jumping into 3d late in life...playing with volumes. i've created surfaces from aerial surveys and have saved the surfaces as separate files. i would now like to run volumes of the two as they represent the same quarry site from different years. it appears (?) i need to have both surfaces listed in prospector to run volumes. each separate file has its own surface listed. question...how do i get (import?) the second surface drawing into one of the files so i have both listed and can run volumes? i see where i can create a surface from importing a .tin file...but i don't see how to export the surface as a .tin file.

I have an existing survey surface, and I want to know how much cubic yard of materials to fill up from the bottom to elevation 876. See attached image for detail. Here is what i am going to do....
- i will create a surface of the fill area (from bottom cotours up to el 876) then do a volume surface bwt existing ground surface and the new fill area surface to get the volume of it? Is this a right way to do?

With Inventor 2013 , user can view iProperties > Physical > Volume. After UPDATE is clicked, the application seems to recalucate and display mass information. How do I accomplish this task with API? I tried looping through all Occurrence objects, then access MassProperties.Volume, but the numbers do not match what I got from the Inventor application. The API seems to give me the Volume before the model construction (add parts, extrusions etc.) I need volumes after the final assembly.

I'd like to do a grading in order to get a volume of earth work needed. It's a very easy proposed surface, but I've never done a grading before. I have a surface that is basically a football field that is graded from one end zone to the other with a slight uphill grade. At the end of the uphill grade is a berm the length of the endzone. That berm needs to be higher, and the uphill grade from endzone to the other endzone needs to be flatter. The dirt that comes out of the flattening will be pushed up on top of the berm on the opposite endzone to make the berm taller.
The new surface should start at existing grade on the low endzone, go on .10% up to the other goaline, then on a 2:1 up to 24 ft above the low endzone elevation. Think of a firing range where you shoot from the low endzone into a berm on the far endzone. The berm isn't tall enough, so they need to find dirt from the surface to put on top of the berm.

I am trying to calculate muck away for work, and I have drawn the site plan in millimetres for accuracy. However when I try to calculate the volume I get this value: 3.6293E+12. I am guessing that it is saying this due to the fact its in millimetres, and I am trying to calculate a large area and convert in into metres squared. What this value means?
