AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Adding VIEWBASE Command To 2013?

Dec 3, 2012

To my frustration the VIEWBASE command and other AutoCAD 2013 cool new tools for creating views aren't included in Civil 3D 2013. When you enter command you get error "AcModelDoc.arx is missing"

So I've installed AutoCAD 2013 trial and took

- "ModelDoc.cuix" & "ModelDoc.mnr" from "C:UsersXXXAppDataRoamingAutodeskAutoCAD 2013 - EnglishenuSupport"

- AcModelDoc.arx from "C:Program FilesAutodeskAutoCAD 2013 - English"

Then I put the files to similar directories of my Civil 3D 2013 installation. The Layout menu got updated itself and now I can see all new buttons and commands on the Ribbon. However none of new commands work! No error appeares in command line but message "command not found".

Is there any way I can get it working? Or I should ask Autodesk to gift me a free copy of AutoCAD 2013 now?

P.S. I know they've even poinet that out in readme file [URL]. But who reads it before it's too late?..

AutoCAD 2013 :: Model Documentation Generated Views In Paperspace Layout Tabs

Dec 12, 2012

My group and I are getting an infrequent but annoying problem with Model Documentation (MD) generated views in paperspace layout tabs.  We all on autocad 2013, with sp1.1 installed on x64 machines.

We are seeing objects/ blocks showing in the MD views (viewbase created) in the layout that are no longer in model space.  One common factor in this is that these objects seem to always be externally referenced (xref) files that have been either unloaded or completely detached (both cases purges preformed afterwards to wipe any remaining blocks made no difference). In this latest case the ghost objects show up twice (we needed 2 of the same xref) at what appears to be the correct old coordinates.

We have no work around for this and when this occurs we either have to revert to an older version from vault or create a new dwg, port all information over and recreate all views.  The interesting thing about this problem is that if we revert to an older version from vault, the ghosts do not reappear/ reoccur at the same commands they appeared at previously.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Automate Dimensioning Of Drawing Views

Feb 10, 2012

Is it possible to automate dimensioning of drawing views?

Here's the situation: I have an Inventor assembly that's controlled entirely by iLogic. My users, who have zero Inventor training/experience (or with any 3D CAD software for that matter), pull up the assembly. They enter product related parameters from paper work orders into an iLogic form and hit a "Go Button". The assembly updates based on the parameters, suppressing and unsuppressing parts, features, patterns, and mates.  This works great.  They then hit a "Run Job" button. This takes them to an .idw where they fill out another form with order specific information and hit another "Go Button". This then cycles through every detail sheet and the parts list, deleting sheets deeemed unneccessary for the product, generating part numbers, exporting dxf's, generating an excel BOM, etc.

This works great as well. The problem is with the dimensions.  They blow all apart when the model changes.  I know I can run some API code to delete dangling dimensions, but is there away to programmatically create dimensions so I don't have to rely on my users remembering what needs them?  I've played around with using model dimensions, but I find that they stay and remain attached even when their corresponding feature gets suppressed.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Viewbase Is Not Working

Jan 26, 2013

I recently installed AutoCAD 2013 and was excited to try viewbase to create 2D drawings from complex 3D geometry.  The problem is that despite selecting "from model space" the program launches the dialog box looking for an Inventor file, and there doesn't seem to be a way to simply work from the file's model space?  I even made a new file from scratch with a simple 3D shape and ran into the same problem.

AutoCAD 2013 :: VIEWBASE And Sending Profiles For Production?

Apr 17, 2013

I recently started using the _VIEWBASE command for creating drawing layouts. It's the first time in 15 years that Autodesk has *seriously* addressed creating drawing layouts from solid models, which is pretty cool so far.

Anyway.. what about generating profiles for production? For example I have an assembly of 100 items. I need to have most of them laser cut and need to send that dxf profile to the laser table. I tried _boundary, _copyface but that does not work with a 'drawing view' object. It also can not be exploded. The only thing that seems possible is tracing the object with a polyline (but that sucks).

I'm trying to avoid using viewports because that means every item needs it's own layer. I'm also trying to avoid littering model space with SOLPROF or FLATSHOT profiles.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Pixelated Objects Within Viewports Created With Viewbase

Nov 8, 2012

The new VIEWBASE tool(s) are pretty cool but I have noticed that the solid objects in the viewports that are created by VIEWBASE tool/command display and plot pixelated. I have changed many normal settings like VIEWRES, WHIPARC, ISOLINES... without any improvement. I did notice that there is a property in the property palette called "Shade Resolution" that I am wondering if it might control this setting. The only thing is that I can't change its value from the properties palette.

I did compare the difference between a normal viewport and one that is created by the VIEWBASE command and the  normal viewports display the objects smoothly (see the last picture below)

1) How to fix the pixelation issue?
2) Does this property control the pixelation issue?
3) How do you change this prop

when I try to use the VIEWBASE command to create views from my 3D solids, I always get the message "inventor server failed to load" and the command stops. I am using AutoCAD 2014 with SP1 installed on windows 8 .

In a similar message in the 2010/2011/2012 discussion group: URL....

it is suggested to reinstall the software, but this is not working for me.I have already tried to 'repair', 'reinstall' and completely remove all the software and then reinstalling it, but nothing seems to fix this problem.

Are there any other programs I need to have installed to get this command to work?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Dimensioning 3D Models

May 14, 2013

I have a fairly complex solid model built in Autocad 2013. I would like to dimension it now. I have various individual parts plus sub assemblies and weldments etc. What are best practices for doing this in an organized way? Should I copy various parts over to other drawings and dimension them separately? It seems odd to pile everything onto the one model. I know that Autocad is not Inventor (which I am somewhat familiar with), but does it have some similar tools for doing individual part drawings to keep things manageable?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Command Line Appears Again After Plot Command?

May 15, 2012

I press CTRL+9 to make the Command Line disappear while drawing. When I plot (or when doing a plot preview) , the Command Line appears again by itself. So I always have to turn the Command Line off manually after each plot

The bug still happens;

- if Dynamic Input is turned off or on
- if I plot to a real device or in PDF
- if the Cammand Line Palette i docked or floating.

This is not an issue in AutoCAD 2012 so I guess it has to do with the new way they programmed the revamped Command Line palette in 2013.

Although I used the command UCSFOLLOW to solve this, but it did not work.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Views And Fields Disassociated In Sheet Set Manager

Oct 4, 2012

The problem occurs in the "Sheet View" area of Sheet Set Manager (SSM).

The first six steps describes our procedure for adding details to drawings, using hypothetical names.  Layout "101" is on Drawing "100 DETAILS" and appears as sheet "101" in sheet set "PROJECT".  Sheet set "PROJECT" (and associated drawings) is actively accessed by multiple users on the same network.

1. I create a view "PLATE DETAIL" in model space of drawing "100 DETAILS", and save the drawing.

2. I navigate the "Model Views" tab of Sheet Set "PROJECT" for view "PLATE DETAIL" in drawing "DETAILS" and "Place on Sheet" on the current layout "101".

3. A Sheet view is inserted on layout "101" with a View Label block with the view title "PLATE DETAIL(2)" and a view number of "___" (blank).  I save the drawing.

4. I navigate the "Sheet Views" tab of SSM for view title "PLATE DETAIL(2) on sheet "101" and "rename and renumber" the sheet view, assigning "1" to the view number and changing view title to read (simply) "DETAIL".

5. After a regen on layout "100", the view label reads correctly: the title reads "DETAIL" and the view number reads "1".

6.  I exit the drawing and close sheet set "PROJECT".

I believe this is the correct procedure for adding sheet views, but here's where the problems begin:

7.  An hour later, I open sheet set "PROJECT" and the drawing "100 DETAILS"

8. Upon examination, I see that the View Title for the detail I placed earlier reads "PLATE DETAIL(2)" and the View Number reads "___" (blank).  It appears as if I never followed step #4.

9. I navigate to to the "Sheet Views" tab of SSM, and I observe that even there, the View Title reads "PLATE DETAIL(2)" and View Number is blank, as if I never edited it.  I correct the view title and view number, and the view label again reads correctly.

10.  As in step #6, I exit and close the sheet set.

This is an oversimplification of one  problem we are having.  Imagine if this problem occurred with multiple details (up to 20 per sheet) on multiple sheets (up to 100 per project). These details are also referenced by section marks, detail marks and fields in mtext.

Occasionally we encounter another, more difficult problem:

10. An hour later, I open sheet set "PROJECT" and the drawing "100 DETAILS" as before.

11. Upon examination, I see that the view title I placed earlier reads "########" (hash marks) and the view number reads "#".

12.  I navigate to the "Sheet Views" tab, as before.  The view title reads "PLATE DETAIL(2) and the view number is blank, like in step #9.  Only THIS time,  correcting the information in SSM does not remove the hash marks.  This means that the View Label is no longer linked to SSM.

13.  I can re-insert a view label from SSM by "Place View Label Block" but that does not correct a wider problem: all references, such as Section marks, detail marks and text fields which appear on many drawings.   All of these must either be re-inserted, or re-fielded.

We feel we have been following the correct procedures in a multi-user environment, but the results have been disastrous.
