AutoCAD 2010 :: Viewbase And Ordinate Dimensioning
Jul 15, 2011I created a drawing using the new VIEW BASE system. I am trying to dimension the views using ordinate dimensions. How do you set the UCS 0,0 to a corner of the part?

View 5 RepliesIs there a way to get proper dimensioning when generating views with the"Viewbase" command. I get erroneous results when using the dimordinate and dinbaseline commands with these views.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using AutoCAD 2012, and trying to move my UCS within a viewport to a corner of my detail, but when I start to dimension using ordinate dimensioning, my point of origin (0.000) it gives me (1009.2003). In AutoCAD 2002, I could move my UCS within a viewport and start ordinate dimensioning and my (0.000) would be where I moved my UCS to.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI design molds for the rubber industry and I was using Acad 2000; I am just now starting to use inventor. I need to used the ordinate dimensioning although I need the dimension to be given as a diameter and not as a radius. Is there anyway to scale the ordinate dimension automatically as 2:1? This way when I give the prints to the tool room they don't have to manually double every diametrical dimension. The prints that I draw only show half of the mold, there for needing a 2:1 dimension scale.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to dimension using ordinate dimensioning style, but I couldn't get some of the lines to change at specified points by 90 degree, and then to continue parallel to the first line. The default couldn't be bent to 90 degree, and desn't stop at where I wanted to bend.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI haven't done this in several years, and my notes are apparently incomplete. Enclosed is an image of the type of ordinate dimensioning that I want, and also my faulty notes. Maybe someone here can add the missing pieces. When I follow my notes, for some reason the UCS is displayed, whereas in the past it wasn't. I am using Version 2000 if it matters.
Notes: Tools/New UCS/Origin this yields small selection square select top right hand corner, for the zero point, then from the Tool Bar: Dimension/Ordinate, to mark the corner with zeroes.Image00256.jpg
How do you hide the origin point using autocad ordinate dimensioning. When I zoom extents there is a point at the origin and is some way from the actual drawing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThere was a message on here about using Ordinate Set to create an ordinate dimension to an apparent intersection and I've managed to do that, but is there a way to use just Ordinate to dimension to an apparent intersection? I've tried dragging and right click menu but no luck.
I'm using Inventor Professional 2012.
I am working with a point cloud and want a dimension that will call out the Z value of a selected node. Is there a way to adjust an ordinate dimension to report the Z value instead of Y? If not, is there another way to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCAD 2012. I am trying to use ordinate dimensions for the first time. So far, when I want to add the X and Y dimensions for a particular feature in my drawing, I choose the "ordinate" dimension type and then I select my feature. I drag my leader horizontally and it gives me the Y dimension. Then I choose the "ordinate" dimension type again, I select my feature again, and this time I drag my leader vertically and it gives me the X dimension.
I like how this works, but I think I would like it better if, rather than having two separate leaders for X and Y dimensions, I could just have one leader that would show both X and Y dimensions separated by a comma...i.e. something like [X:5.0; Y 7.5]
Is autocad 2012 capable of dimensioning a solid object in model space horizontally vertically and diagonally say across the opposite corners of a cube, or along the hip of a roof? What am I missing here, I am using the full version of autocad for exactly this feature but am still unable.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhilst dimensioning in paperspace I dont seem to be able to get the dimesions to sit above the drawing in model space. for example if I place a leader across the drawing to a specific point the leader sits under the drawing and is lost/hidden. how I set the dimensions to sit above the drawing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy first immediate issue is text and dimensioning on view port.
If I dimension in a viewport, these dims appear on other view ports (referencing info at different scales) I thought I can write text and dimension specific to view port even if information repeated around sheet.
Secondly, if i have the above situation of my detail at 1:10 then more at 1:5/1:2, I want the hatch scale to be uniform in all viewports. What is the setting (so if hat5ch lines 2mm apart in 1:10 then I want them 2mm apart in the 1:2 as well.
How to change your settings so that when dimensioning an object that is in model space, while floating over it in paper space, it will give you the actual dimensions in model space?
Seems that it should be a variable setting or something you can change in DIMSTYLE.
Quick dimensioning a number of blocks doesn't work. Is there a way to do this without exploding the blocks.
For example I have 10 blocks at various intervals and I want to pick up the centre line position of each block to show the dims between each block centre.
I recently installed AutoCAD 2013 and was excited to try viewbase to create 2D drawings from complex 3D geometry. The problem is that despite selecting "from model space" the program launches the dialog box looking for an Inventor file, and there doesn't seem to be a way to simply work from the file's model space? I even made a new file from scratch with a simple 3D shape and ran into the same problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRebuilding viewbase views? I have a drawing with unresolved views and I'm not sure how it happened.
On a semi-related note.. Does viewbase based sheet layouts make Autocad more unstable?
anytime i create a viewbase i need to define the scale , visibility, hidden lines , orientation etc...
is there a way to save a style ? most of my details in 3d repeat the same settings i use autocad 2014
Im trying to create projections of the 3D model with the VIEWBASE command, is it possible to assign it to part of the model?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently started using the _VIEWBASE command for creating drawing layouts. It's the first time in 15 years that Autodesk has *seriously* addressed creating drawing layouts from solid models, which is pretty cool so far.
Anyway.. what about generating profiles for production? For example I have an assembly of 100 items. I need to have most of them laser cut and need to send that dxf profile to the laser table. I tried _boundary, _copyface but that does not work with a 'drawing view' object. It also can not be exploded. The only thing that seems possible is tracing the object with a polyline (but that sucks).
I'm trying to avoid using viewports because that means every item needs it's own layer. I'm also trying to avoid littering model space with SOLPROF or FLATSHOT profiles.
Is there any way to get the VIEWBASE command to respect the layer settings when creating section views?
It keep clarity, our plot styles are already setup, and IMO, more logical.
vbasepaper.JPGmodel.JPGIs it possible to display centrelines created in model space in a view created using viewbase? The snips I have attached show my problem. The black background image is from model space showing a node at a tubular instersection. The dark blue centrelines are always drawn first to set out the framework. When I create the manufacturing drawing in paper space it is sometimes useful to show the centrelines. However when I create a view using VIEWBASE only the 3d solids are considered and displayed. I do not want to have to draw the centrelines in every view and detail view as this will take an age and will have to be manually corrected in every view each time there is change.
View 7 Replies View RelatedTo my frustration the VIEWBASE command and other AutoCAD 2013 cool new tools for creating views aren't included in Civil 3D 2013. When you enter command you get error "AcModelDoc.arx is missing"
So I've installed AutoCAD 2013 trial and took
- "ModelDoc.cuix" & "ModelDoc.mnr" from "C:UsersXXXAppDataRoamingAutodeskAutoCAD 2013 - EnglishenuSupport"
- AcModelDoc.arx from "C:Program FilesAutodeskAutoCAD 2013 - English"
Then I put the files to similar directories of my Civil 3D 2013 installation. The Layout menu got updated itself and now I can see all new buttons and commands on the Ribbon. However none of new commands work! No error appeares in command line but message "command not found".
Is there any way I can get it working? Or I should ask Autodesk to gift me a free copy of AutoCAD 2013 now?
P.S. I know they've even poinet that out in readme file [URL]. But who reads it before it's too late?..
The new VIEWBASE tool(s) are pretty cool but I have noticed that the solid objects in the viewports that are created by VIEWBASE tool/command display and plot pixelated. I have changed many normal settings like VIEWRES, WHIPARC, ISOLINES... without any improvement. I did notice that there is a property in the property palette called "Shade Resolution" that I am wondering if it might control this setting. The only thing is that I can't change its value from the properties palette.
I did compare the difference between a normal viewport and one that is created by the VIEWBASE command and the normal viewports display the objects smoothly (see the last picture below)
1) How to fix the pixelation issue?
2) Does this property control the pixelation issue?
3) How do you change this prop
when I try to use the VIEWBASE command to create views from my 3D solids, I always get the message "inventor server failed to load" and the command stops. I am using AutoCAD 2014 with SP1 installed on windows 8 .
In a similar message in the 2010/2011/2012 discussion group: URL....
it is suggested to reinstall the software, but this is not working for me.I have already tried to 'repair', 'reinstall' and completely remove all the software and then reinstalling it, but nothing seems to fix this problem.
Are there any other programs I need to have installed to get this command to work?
How to print a viewbase layout with a large scale factor? The problem I'm having with ac2013 is that the print is coming out with jagged edge.
View 9 Replies View RelatedApparently we're using ordinate dimensions in a way that was not intended, but that makes perfect sense to us. We work with building elevations and sometimes, though not too often, there are points that fall below the zero elevation. But when we put an ordinate dim on these points it is noted as a positive number.
Is there some way to get these to show with a negative sign? For example, -4'-3"
Where can I set the default for my mid-ordinate distance when adding breaklines to a surface. Would like to change it from 1.0 to 0.1.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWe're having a problem with Ordinate dimensions. When we dimension to a radius corner, we dim to the "implied intersection" of the two lines, rather than to the center of the radius. We make a sketch with the two "tick marks", then dim to the intersection of the tick marks.
Ordinate dimensions are not allowing us to pick the intersection: it wants to put two (or three) dimensions, one to each end of one or the other tick marks (see attached). We use Ordinate dims about once a year, but I'm sure I remember being able to ordinate dimension to the tick marks.
I can put a regular dimension to an intersection, but when I rmb I do not have the intersection option when placing an ordinate dimension. Is there another way to go about putting an ordinate dimension to an intersection?
