I'm using AutoCAD 2012, and trying to move my UCS within a viewport to a corner of my detail, but when I start to dimension using ordinate dimensioning, my point of origin (0.000) it gives me (1009.2003). In AutoCAD 2002, I could move my UCS within a viewport and start ordinate dimensioning and my (0.000) would be where I moved my UCS to.
View 0 RepliesI design molds for the rubber industry and I was using Acad 2000; I am just now starting to use inventor. I need to used the ordinate dimensioning although I need the dimension to be given as a diameter and not as a radius. Is there anyway to scale the ordinate dimension automatically as 2:1? This way when I give the prints to the tool room they don't have to manually double every diametrical dimension. The prints that I draw only show half of the mold, there for needing a 2:1 dimension scale.

The default couldn't be bent to 90 degree, and desn't stop at where I wanted to bend.

Enclosed is an image of the type of ordinate dimensioning that I want, and also my faulty notes. Maybe someone here can add the missing pieces. When I follow my notes, for some reason the UCS is displayed, whereas in the past it wasn't. I am using Version 2000 if it matters.
Notes: Tools/New UCS/Origin this yields small selection square select top right hand corner, for the zero point, then from the Tool Bar: Dimension/Ordinate, to mark the corner with zeroes.Image00256.jpg
How do you hide the origin point using autocad ordinate dimensioning. When I zoom extents there is a point at the origin and is some way from the actual drawing?

I've tried dragging and right click menu but no luck.
I'm using Inventor Professional 2012.
I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
I am working with a point cloud and want a dimension that will call out the Z value of a selected node. Is there a way to adjust an ordinate dimension to report the Z value instead of Y? If not, is there another way to do this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCAD 2012. I am trying to use ordinate dimensions for the first time. So far, when I want to add the X and Y dimensions for a particular feature in my drawing, I choose the "ordinate" dimension type and then I select my feature. I drag my leader horizontally and it gives me the Y dimension. Then I choose the "ordinate" dimension type again, I select my feature again, and this time I drag my leader vertically and it gives me the X dimension.
I like how this works, but I think I would like it better if, rather than having two separate leaders for X and Y dimensions, I could just have one leader that would show both X and Y dimensions separated by a comma...i.e. something like [X:5.0; Y 7.5]
Apparently we're using ordinate dimensions in a way that was not intended, but that makes perfect sense to us. We work with building elevations and sometimes, though not too often, there are points that fall below the zero elevation. But when we put an ordinate dim on these points it is noted as a positive number.
Is there some way to get these to show with a negative sign? For example, -4'-3"
Where can I set the default for my mid-ordinate distance when adding breaklines to a surface. Would like to change it from 1.0 to 0.1.

When we dimension to a radius corner, we dim to the "implied intersection" of the two lines, rather than to the center of the radius. We make a sketch with the two "tick marks", then dim to the intersection of the tick marks.
Ordinate dimensions are not allowing us to pick the intersection: it wants to put two (or three) dimensions, one to each end of one or the other tick marks (see attached). We use Ordinate dims about once a year, but I'm sure I remember being able to ordinate dimension to the tick marks.
I can put a regular dimension to an intersection, but when I rmb I do not have the intersection option when placing an ordinate dimension. Is there another way to go about putting an ordinate dimension to an intersection?

Inventor 2009....how to remove an Ordinate dimension (not Ordinate Dimension Set). It seems you can only make one per view. And you can only edit the dimension, i.e. the Origin symbol, but not delete it !? Don't know if there is a change from previous versions of Inventor to 2009.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am drawing ordinate dimensions in blocks and then I am getting the geometric extents of these blocks, if the block contains the dimension, the extents are much larger than expected. What may be the cause?
See the attached drawing, the lines are connecting geometric extents MinPoint and MaxPoint. For the blocks that don't have dimension in them, the extents are correct.
I have created surface contours from points, but I just can't sem to figure out how to decrease my midordinate distance. I know I can go all old-school and explode the surface then make a new one by defining contours, but there has got to be a better way.

Along the left side, is a straight edge, but the zero point along the bottom will be a point.

I'm trying to build an expression to display the Middle Ordinate for profile curves. I don't usually do this but it's required for this project.
The first thought was to subtract the PVI elevation from the profile elevation. The PVI elevation is easy but I don't see an easy way to get the profile elevation. I can go through the whole formula for calculating the grade. But that will probably take some debugging.
How do I rotate my value(s) on the vertical ordinate dimension vertical?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe use ordinate dimensions for all holes in parts. Unfortunately there seems to be features frequently left out of ordinate dimension mode. For instance, by default Inventor uses center and quadrant object snaps. Unlike in normal dimension mode, there is no right click option for disabling quadrant snaps. This is a constant annoyance, especially when dimensioning a print with a lot of holes. Is there any other way or hidden setting to disable the quadrant snap? In addition, add member is missing from the new "marking menu" completely so we have to enable the old right click menu to get it back. Are we the only ones using ordinate dimensions?

I managed to get this part right, that was the easy part.....
However when i went to put any Dimension or even Text on the drawing it was Backwards and Upside Down.
