I have a drawing with objects on multiple layers, however when I select an object, they all show as whtever layer is showing. If I open the drawing on antoher machine, everything works properly with multiple layers.
View 2 RepliesI've recently started having a problem where some objects that I edit or insert, such as blocks, only show in white. The photo I show is an example. I recently used viewport clip in order to add in the detail shown on the top right, and when I did so, the viewport went white, and it has since not changed. It is supposed to show in yellow, as shown with the other viewports. When I change to "bylayer" it is white, and when I manually change it, it stays white. As shown, I've changed it manually to cyan, and it remains white.
I think this may be an obsucre system variable problem, but I'm not sure where to start.
I have a master drawing with multiple xrefed building sketches. Looking at the model space on the "master" I can see all the room identities. However, if I go to the sheets that I have created and look at the view ports. The room identities are not there. The layer is called A-Room-Iden and it is on and not frozen...
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing CAD2011, froze, I restarted it and reopened the file I was working in. In my ribbon, all layers read "0", but show the correct ByLayer color according to what layers they were on before the crash. If I list something, it shows the correct layer, and not that it's on "0". When my coworker opens the same file everything is as it should be, which leads me to believe some setting got messed up during this crash.
It is making work way more difficult than it should be - I can't see what layers are what!
Why a layer state assigned to a viewport can only restrict the layers showing? I want my viewport to show the proper layers all the time, even when those layers are not visible in model space.

i have created viewports on the defpoints layer in paper space, but now i can't select them to modify. Is there a switch or variable that allows depoints objects to be selected?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSeem like when I cut and paste objects from one file to another, particularly objects with different annotative scale, my lexisting ayers would get corrupted. Standard layer names will be appended with "@_96" at the end (i.e. "symbols" to "symbols@_96"l . The 96 would represent the annotative scale factor in the current file. If I exit out and reopen the file, all layer names will return bsck to normal. However if I cont. to work on the file for a long time, the file will get corrupted. when restore, a lot of annotative symbols that where on different "@_96" layers will merge into on new "audit" layer. Sometimes the symbols show up with a different current annotative scale

When they select objects, its not reporting on the commandline how many objects its found or keeping a running total of objects selected. Not even any duplications...
I've tested it on my machine but i cannot replicate the issue and have never come across this before!

I have several .dwg files that I use as templates. I run find and replace VBA routines on the template .dwg files, ie find $Flavor$ and replace it with "Grape", and then I save the .dwg to another directory with a new name.
These VBA routines work well for acdbText and acdbMText objects, but I have a bunch of AcdbAttributeDefinition objects in the .dwg templates as well.
After much research about the AutoCAD object model (I'm mostly a Microsoft Access VBA programmer), I have come to understand that these AcdbAttributeDefinition objects are actually "remnants" of a block that no longer exists in the drawing.
Anyway, I'd like to convert all of these orphaned AcdbAttributeDefinition objects to acdbText objects in the templates and then delete the AcdbAttributeDefinition objects. I have some code that does just that.
However, the issue that I am having with the code is that the newly created acdbText objects are not on the same layer that the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects were on. I don't know the syntax to identify what layer the AcdbAttributeDefinition object is on or how to specify what layer on which the acdbText object is created.
how to keep the acdbText objects on the same layers as the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects during the conversion and deletion process?

I'd like to know how to align an object in model space with the edge of my viewport in paperspace.
When I draw, I like to lay out multiple complete drawings in model space, make an appropriately scaled bounding box around them, and then snap a view port to the bounding box in my layout. I usually have multiple drawings lined up in a row in modelspace, so when I want a new layout I do a Save As and then pan around in my viewport to find the next bounding box, at which point I have to resize the viewport to get it to snap to the edges nicely. I really want to be able to to it the otehr way around- while panning I'd like to be able to grab a corner of my modelspace bouding box and snap it to the the corresponding corner of my viewport window. That way making new layouts would be a snap. Is there a way to do this in AutoCAD 2012 LT?
I have a bunch of objects on a particular layer, and they're all different colors and linetypes and lineweights, and i want them to all take on the color / linetype / lineweight that i chose for that layer.. how do i do this?

The orange items in question are blocks and are just copies of each other. However, the grass hatch underneath shows through the left one and not the right one. I checked the properties of both blocks and they are identical except for x/y position.

I have a drawing done in AutoCAD Architecture 2013. Most of it is just lines, but I have a couple of Walls with Doors. It looks fine in the base drawing but when I xref into another file the walls revert to their original color and the doors have disappeared. The opening is there but no door.
I tried xredit and the doors are there but when I close that they are gone again. Tried detaching and reattaching...still have the problem.
After I posted this tried Display Configuration. Clicking all options for Doors gives me the doors...in a closed position, not the same as in the base plan.
why a drawing would open without a number of objects (text) showing? I open it up and all notes are gone, yet another user opens it up in "eDrawings" and it opens fine. Oddly, when in ACAD I click OPEN, the preview ACAD gives me when I click this file once shows the missing text etc. But when I open it they're missing.

i'm trying to learn about AutoCAD, today i was trying to create a Glass cup, i've created it with REVSURF, at my first try it got square with only SIX faces, so after some seraching, i was told to set "SURTFTAB1" and "SURFTAB2" to a higher number like 18, so i configured them to 36... After that, the cup was looking pretty good and round, but then, i rendered it, at the highest quality "Presentation". But the cup continues to show the flat little faces, i would like to know if it's normal or am i doing something wrong? maybe i should do it with a circle and then press/pull it with a smaller circle on the top?

We have a user that can't open some OLE DWG files from within a word document. He had 2010 AutoCAD LT on his machine for a while then was upgraded to 2012 AutoCAD (non LT) once that was there LT 2010 was unistalled. since then he has not been able to open certain embedded OLE files within Word. Other users that have other ever had AutoCAD 2012 have no issue opening this embedded DWG files.
i found this thread (URL....) which sounds exactly what is going on with my enduser. But the fix provided is for AutoCad 2000-2012 not the LT versions.
I am using autocad 2013 primarily and other employees are using 2010. I am saving my drawings as 2010 and for me there are no issues. On the other hand people using 2010 are having objects missing in the drawing. All layers are turned on and all thawed. The primary objects missing are AEC objects. Is there a switch to show or hide these object?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with grid lines showing up in my print out from autocad, but only in the viewport that has 3D objects in it and displayed in conceptual mode or realistic mode. Don't know what is causing them or how to get rid of them. They do not show up on my screen or in the print preview. They only show up in the final prints and even when printing to a pdf file format. I have printed the same drawing out from other computers that have Autocad 2009 and do not get that problem. My computer has Autocad 2010. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Autocad but that doesn't work.
