Why a layer state assigned to a viewport can only restrict the layers showing? I want my viewport to show the proper layers all the time, even when those layers are not visible in model space.

I have a master drawing with multiple xrefed building sketches. Looking at the model space on the "master" I can see all the room identities. However, if I go to the sheets that I have created and look at the view ports. The room identities are not there. The layer is called A-Room-Iden and it is on and not frozen...
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing CAD2011, froze, I restarted it and reopened the file I was working in. In my ribbon, all layers read "0", but show the correct ByLayer color according to what layers they were on before the crash. If I list something, it shows the correct layer, and not that it's on "0". When my coworker opens the same file everything is as it should be, which leads me to believe some setting got messed up during this crash.
It is making work way more difficult than it should be - I can't see what layers are what!
“Locking” the layers state (turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc.) in the viewport,
I’m wondering if there is a technique that allows locking the “state” of layers (turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc.) in the viewport mode such that the viewport will keeps its required state REGARDLESS THEIR STATE IN THE MODEL MODE!
For example, in the screenshot below, freezing the point in the model mode will also freeze them in the viewport! And thus the layer state are not kept as required in the viewport which adds more efforts.
One possible option is saving the layer state! But this feature is not a property for the viewport but needs to be selected from the layers option. And thus we need again to think about layers that are supposed to be turned on/of frozen/thawed/ locked/unlocked, etc. in a particular viewport.
What I need here is to LOCK the viewport not only in terms of scale but also regarding the state of layers!
With Visibility States there appears to be only 4 options:
Hide for current state.Show for current state.Hide for all statesShow for all states.
I need a 5th option... Do not change visibility when this state is set current.
So, in other words, I'd like to turn objects on or off independently from each other... so lets say I have two sets of objects... I want to toggle on only the 3rd item in set A and only the 5th item set B... but each set would function separately from the other set.
Is there a way to apply a Layer State to multiple DWGS, without going into each DWG?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLet's say you create a floor plan, and you use the Layer State manager to separate the framing plan, finish plan, reflected ceiling plan, etc. Now, when you go to create a sheet, you xref this plan into model space with all of the layers thawed/on, go to your titleblock in paper space and make a viewport.
Currently, if I click into a viewport and use the Layer State manager to show just the information of the RCP, it will freeze all of the layers I don't need, but it will freeze those layers in model space, instead of just within the viewport. It gets very time consuming doing it the way I always understood to do it; making sure all layers are thawed/on in model space, and then going into each viewport and manually VP-freezing each layer I don't need.
So can Layer States be set up to work within viewports, to only have those layers VP-frozen?
I would like to add the layer state drop-down from the ribbon to one of my toolbars, but can't find it in CUI command list. Is this feature only available with the ribbon?

we have a good size project going on with lots of view ports of a base map (floor plan or site plan). Then we set the viewport layers the way we would like it, but along the way, we keep getting updated base maps (floor plan or site plan) with new layer created in them. These newly created layers are for the originator and will not affect our project.
Is there a way to have our project set to ignore any newly created layer from the originator of the base files? That is, we have our project (viewport layers) set the way we want it. When we get an updated base file, replace the xref(s), our layer state will still be the same, ignoring any newly created layer, automatically. I sure hope I am clear enough here.
Our problem is that when we get a new base file, then we would have to go to every file that has a viewport related to this new base file and turn off the new layers.

I searched for a fix but was unable to find a fix. I have updated my graphics card driver but that didnt fix it. I have attached a screen shot to show what it looks like. I am running C3D 2009.

When I save the drawing or when a auotsave occurs, the frozen layers become visible again in the viewport even though they are still marked as frozen. The only way I can get the viewport to display correctly again is to close the drawing and re-open it. How I can stop this from happening?

View 5 Replies View RelatedStarted working with PSE and when I tried to "stamp" a brush shape (whether default brushes or otherwise), the program does something it had never done before....SEE ATTACHED. I will create a new layer to use my brush, but when I try to "stamp" it onto background, the program then creates a layer mask where I can see the brush shape AND a new layer, however ALL that shows up on the background is the icon you can see in my screen grab I am attaching here. What is this icon? (The teeny one middle right of image, black square, outlined in red, with two red circles in the middle) I called Apple, we did a few things, they said it wasn't on there end. I reset my tools, I uninstalled, reinstalled, to no avail. Again, I've reset all tools, the "eye" icon on layers panel shows it should be visible, I've tried layers-->merge visible, I've uninstalled and reinstalled.....
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using autocad 2011. I am trying to attach a drawing as a xreg with a relative path. It keeps giving me relative path can not be assigned. I have tried saving the dwg. I have even started a new drawing and tried again but it keeps giving me the same error. All my drawing are in the same folder on a network drive. Another employee can open the drawing file from his computer and attach the same file fine. when He does it I can see the relative path. Is there a setting that I am missing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly drawing that one of the components in the drawing views is not displaying properly.
What I mean by this is other component that are in front of portions of this said part the said part is not showing line segments as hidden or just removed (preferred).
If you look at the image below I have highlighted the portions that are not displaying properly.
I have tried changing the display section under the edit view. The other weird thing is this said part is showing up in the view as phantom lines when the properties clearly show it as a continuous line per the "By Layer" setting.
I am not sure if the LOD's involved speak to this, but this hasn't always been like this and I am not sure what changed it.
My goal is to batch plots using VB in Visual Studio 2008, Autocad Map 3D 2010, Win 7 Pro 64. It all works but now I want to apply layerstates.

My questions:
1. If you use Option Strict, how do you convert from integer to "layerstatesmasks.color"? VS shows the error "Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'Integer' to 'Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.LayerStateMasks'." I can't figure out the conversion. Are the values documented somewhere? "clientmask" is not in the object browser or the dev. guide.
2. If you aren't sure what is masked, do you turn on all of the options on (on, color, linetype, lineweight, etc.)? Is there a sum of values that means "layerstatemasks.all"?
3. LAS files are DXF format. Do I have to read the LAS to detemine what the user wants?
4. The second argument to .restorelayerstate is the viewport id. The examples use objectid.null. I could have several layouts to plot, and maybe several viewports. Is the process a) Make the layout current, b) activate each viewport, c) set model space current, and d) restore the layerstate?
am working with a purchased version of 3ds Max 2012, and state sets are not showing up in the rendering menu. Also, there is no state set function in the 3dsmax.ini file to be set to true, which is what this link says to do initialize state set to true
It says it comes with advantage pack version of 3ds Max 2012, so are there versions without it installed?
Layers are shown in the drop down menu from the ribbon but when I open the layer manager no layers are visible. I can click in the empty space and the layer will highlight. See attached.

Do the people that develop (anti-endusers ) the upgrades ever think like an end user? Having the Layer Properties Manager set up with default filters that show "ALL" layers or "Xref" layers without a default for "Layers Local ONLY" is so counterintuitive and non-user friendly! This is just another example of how Autodesk has absolutely no regard for the end user.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a number of standard layer group filters. We also have a utility that allows us to re-create our standard layers with the push of a button, making it easy to use the PURGE command to keep the drawings clean.
We have noticed that once we purge our layers out, the group filters are broken. After reinserting the standard layers, some of them show no layers, and others show all of the layers, neither of which is correct. It seems that once a Group Layer Filter no longer sees the layers it was set to include in the layer list, it forgets all its settings and becomes useless.
How can we continue to use PURGE without losing the functionality of our layer filters?
I've just installed the 3ds max 2012 Subscription Advantage Pack, the State Set is not showing in the Render Menu.
