AutoCAD 2010 :: Tick Marks Not Turning Off With Layer
Sep 4, 2013I have been working on a drawing and out of the blue, when I opened it the other day, all this tick marks where peppered all over the drawing. I discovered they were like point marks from dimension layers that were turned off. If I freeze the layer on top of turning it off, the tick marks do go away. I am running an old version of Autocad, 2007.

Aug 17, 2012My question pertains to layer colors from xrefs that have other xrefs nested inside them.
When I get xrefs from the architects, I get a building layout, RCP, space layout, etc. I tie all these together into a single "architect base" xref so I don't have to attach 4 xrefs to each new file I create. What I would like to be able to do is set all the layer colors in the misc. architect xrefs in my "architect base" file and have those color settings propagate into my drawings as I create them. This comes into play especially if I have to create a new drawing late in the project, and I don't want to have to go set hundreds of layer colors individually. ?
Visretain comes to mind, but visretain (if I'm correct) is really for keeping xref color settings in your current file from session to session, not in a new file that you are creating using an xref.

Aug 31, 2013Do the people that develop (anti-endusers ) the upgrades ever think like an end user? Having the Layer Properties Manager set up with default filters that show "ALL" layers or "Xref" layers without a default for "Layers Local ONLY" is so counterintuitive and non-user friendly! This is just another example of how Autodesk has absolutely no regard for the end user.

Jul 1, 2013I have a Base.dwg where I xref-Attach a Proposed.dwg file into. I changed the Color=gray and Plot Style=Existing of the Proposed xref in the Base. Visretain=1.
I now create a Sheet.dwg and xref Base into it (and Proposed comes along too). The settings for Proposed are not what I have set in the Base file, they are what's in the original Proposed file.
Can I get these settings to come through? I cannot go into the original Proposed file and change settings.

I insert xref's for my base drawing but legend is on local layers and I would like to be able to ensure that the line colour and linetype always match...
AutoCAD 2010 :: Deleting Xref Dependent Layer That Has No Visible Features
Dec 1, 2011When I insert a drawing from another source as a block into one my drawing - and then explode the block and change the exploded block layers to my layers. Then I purge out the old layers. Normally this works fine, but I have lately had trouble getting rid of some unwanted layers as everytime I have tried, I get the message that they are x-ref dependent and cannot be deleted or purged. I have tried to isolate them by freezing and turning off everything else, but there are no features, entities, "specks" whatever, to erase. I have looked at the xref command, and my drawing shows no rogue xrefs. I am not sure what to do to get rid of these layers.

I have got a similar routine from earlier posts but it doesn't work if any xrefs inserted in paper space (works fine on model space). could change this routine allowing to change the layer of xref in paper space too.

Jun 15, 2013When you try to rescale a layer using the Rescale Tool with a layer mask active, it scales of the mask, likewise if you select the layer it will scale the layer. Can I select both the layer and layer mask and scale the layer, thus it keeps the layer mask showing the desired masked area only. As the only way I can see currently is by applying the layer mask on the layer and then you can see the layer/s below to get the scaling that is desired. But I would like to keep the layer mask active for editing after scaling.

Really annoying to keep getting those "Are you sure you want to turn off the current layer" messages and it would prevent me from either drawing thing on a layer I don't intend to, or drawing on a layer which is off (which confuses me every time).

May 12, 2012I feel really dumb right now but for some reason I'm having trouble deselecting. First off, I'm talking layers and vector objects here. I know Cmd D deselects selections. But how you do deselect any layer which might currently be active? I'm working in PS CS6 for the first real time and it's like I suddenly got dumb or something.
I know you can select a blank area of the Layers Panel to do it, but my Layers Panel is full right now, so I don't even see any dead space. This is especially troubling because I'm making a lot of shape layers and if I do that while a layer is selected then I wind up making masks.

Nov 11, 2008If I am working on a layer, then select a new layer to work on, then paint on that layer, then undo: the brush stroke is undone, but also the previous layer I was working on re-becomes the active layer. I want it to stay on the new layer I selected. Is there an option for this?

I would like to make it so that when they go to attach an xref the layer is automatically set to the "XREF" layer and then possibly reset to the previous layer.

Nov 17, 2011I have a drawing of a floor plan, and on a separate drawing I have text that I need to add to the floor plan drawing.
I've used the XREF command and positioned it exactly where it needs to go, but I can't edit the text drawing unless I "Open XREF in place"
I got close by going to the XREF dialog and "Binding.." the drawing as an INSERT and now it's one huge block.
I'm trying to insert the drawing with the text on the drawing with the floor plan so it's one drawing and so I can edit the text or move things around if I need to.
Photoshop :: Crop Tool When Vector Mask Is Active On A Layer
Jun 21, 2013Using Photoshop CC, if you have a vector mask on a layer and attempt to crop the image, the vector mask shifts incorrectly after the crop is completed. The image is garbled. If I rasterize the vector mask to a standard layer mask, the crop works successfully.
I've checked to make sure that there are no numbers in the crop tool options. Nothing appears to be set incorrectly.
