AutoCad :: Automatically Generate Layers Based On Color?

Oct 10, 2007

Is there a way to automatically generate layers based on color? I just downloaded a CAD object that's only got 1 layer but several different colored lines. It would be extremely painstaking if I had to take each and every line and place it on a different layer. It would be much easier if I could tell AutoCAD 2006 to simply split the object up by color and place each one on a different layer.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Sections From 3D Plines

May 20, 2012

I  have a 3d topographic survey plan. I need to take sections at various locations and would like to know the best way of going about this.

I am used to working with solids and so would normally just take a section plane but this won't work as the 3d topographic survey plan I have is made up of polylines.

Photoshop :: Generate Image Based Of All Colors Currently In Swatch

Nov 8, 2013

Any method or script that enables generation of an image based of all the colors currently in the swatch? I would want it to fill a grid, with a patch of the color with the colors name underneath it, and with the name of the swatch as a header on a black background. Maybe even with the lab, cmyk and rgb values underneath each color. The colors need to be arranged in the same manner as in the swatch.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Convert Plines To Splines?

Mar 15, 2012

I searched and saw lots of posts on converting a spline object into a pline, but not the other way around. I like the way that splines can use control vertices or fit points.

I know that you can apply a spline smoothing to a pline, but what I'd like to do is to convert a pline object into a spline object and splining a pline does not do that.

Any fairly easy way to do this? Are there LISP routines that do this?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Fillet PLines Keeps Original Lines

Dec 13, 2012

I am attempting to fillet plines to make rounded curbs at street intersections. Whenever I create the fillet, the 2 plines that were filleted remain as they were before the fillet.

This only happens on my computer and only in AutoCAD 2011, it works fine in Civil3D 2011. We only have a limited number of Civil3D licenses or I would just use that all the time.

The attached screenshot shows an example of what happens. The 2 red lines are what were filletted (the fillet is in white). Both lines are long enough to accomodate the radius of the fillet.

What is causing this problem?

AutoCAD 2010 :: 3D Spirals - How To Generate Cut Sheet

Jul 18, 2013

I drew a 3d spiral, and now i need to create a cut-sheet in sections (half or quarter) so I can sent to my shop for fabrication. Please see attached photos.

I want to be able to provide a cut sheet template so i can print it out and they can trace it on the sheet metal, cut however many sections required, and weld it together to create the spiral. My concern is that the top view dimensions is not an accurate dimension when the piece is bent 8 inches from the start of the spiral.

Also, my next issue would be the side wall of the spiral, and how to properly create a cut sheet on the given dimensions.

I also tried to do this in Autodesk Inventor, using the sheet metal tool, flatten command, and I was unable to flaten the object.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart Workflow And Vault - Generate All Or Generate Only New

Sep 4, 2012

We are using iPart - iAssembly workflow with Inv-2013 and  Vault Basic 2013

My question is related to released state of iparts. Currently we are generating/ releasing

all the iparts when new member is added in order to manintain the parent child version relationship

Example  : say i have a ipart 41020.ipt and i have members 41020- 001 ~ 008 . I check out the parent

from Vault and add 009 member to it.

Question :

Do I have to generate all and check those in to maintain the version relationship between the child and parent inside

Vault 2013 ?
 Or
Only generating 009 will maintain version relationship inside Vault 2013

AutoCAD 2010 :: DXF Based Blocks Insert In Inches Instead Of Mm

Mar 19, 2013

I have a problem when I insert blocks who were originally saved as dxf.

For years I've been recieving dxf-drawings from our suppliers, and for years I've opened them, saved them as .dwg and then inserted them into my drawings.  Lately, when I insert these blocks, they're scaled up by 25.4...  It appears that AutoCAD converts them to inches instead of in mm.

When I check the scale of the block in "Properties", the insertionscale is always 1.

I've checked the "UNITS" in the dxf and the dwg, both are mm.  I've checked "INSUNITS", "INSUNITSDEFSOURCE" and "INSUNITSDEFTARGET", all of them have value "4", which is "mm"...

The screenshot above is taken in the dxf-file.  I've used the "DIST" command on the dimension which states "326", and as you can see, the distance measured is also 326...

The screenshot below is taken after I've saved the dxf as a dwg, and then inserted the dwg-file as block into a new drawing.  The same dimension is measured, and then I get this:

8280.4/25.4=326

AutoCAD 2010 :: Set Lineweight To Be Color-based Automatically?

Mar 15, 2012

Is there a way to set the “lineweight” to be Color-based automatically?

I’m wondering if there is a way to set the lineweight to be color-based such that all the objects have the same color will take the same lineweight automatically.

Sure, we can control such behavior through the “bylayer” feature but I’m not sure if this very particular behavior might exist in the AutoCAD; color-based lineweigth!

AutoCAD 2010 :: Constraint Based On Attribute (text Box) Width?

Apr 17, 2012

Is there a way to constrain a few objects to an attribute text box width?  I want the background box and line to stretch, based on what is typed in that attribute box.

I know that if I make the attribute, a multi-line attribute, I can add a backgroud mask.  I don't want to take this route, because the mask boundary varies, depending on what character is typed.  Also, there is a gap between the mask and line I would like to maintain.

I tried some constraint stuff, but all I seem to be able to constrain is the insertion point of the text box, and not the width grip...

AutoCAD 2010 :: Linetype Is Not Scaling Based On Annotative Scale

Oct 17, 2012

I have a drawing (attached) with the following settings: LTSCALE = 1, MSLTSCALE = 1, PSLTSCALE = 1.For some reason the linetype is not scaling based on the annotative scale. It will update correctly if I change the LTSCALE but for some reason it wants to ignore the MS and PSLTSCALE variables.

As a note, the drawing was converted from a Microstation drawing and the linetype is a converted Microstation linetype. Is there something in the linetype that is doing this.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Macros For Moving Text Based On Relative Coordinate

Oct 25, 2012

I am using AutoCad 2012, with CADDUCT. On my runs of duct that go vertical, I like to stack my tag numbers beside the riser in order, so our installers can easily identify the order without a ton of section views. I am trying to figure out a macro that will do numerous things. Since my tags come out at different rotation angles, I would like to do the following commands.

Rotate object text "TAG #" to 0 degrees

move object text "TAG #" to "Snap from" & "snap insert" 6" below the tag above it

I want the numbers to align by their insert locations up and down the page, and exactly 6" on center vertically from one another. The tag numbers have a node justified to the center up and down of the text.

AutoCAD LT :: Plines Not On A Layer

Aug 13, 2013

I have these plines that keep appearing in my drawing that are not on a layer (see attached). I have never experienced this before. There are 10x duplicates stacked upon one another surrounding three separate shapes. My theory is that a hatch is creating them. I deleted them and they came back. How do I manage them and their display properties, or better yet, remove them from the drawing.
