AutoCAD 2010 :: Extracting Metadata From Smart Title Blocks
Oct 17, 2012
I need to load a couple hundred drawings to Vault. Most, if not all, of these AutoCAD drawings use the 'smart title block' and I was wondering if there was a way to extract all the data from the title blocks into an excel .csv file to then be imported into Vault saving me SOOOO much time and work.
ideas on Drawing Revision Table / Record on Title Blocks that they would share? We are re-designing our Title Blocks and I was wondering if there was a different or better way of doing this, besides a static block with attributes.
i have created some dynamic title blocks with text attributes in title column. I have gone back an added some more attributes at a later date and these new ones will not move with my dynamic stretch! I have tried everything, modifying the action, re-doing the action, nothing works!
The title blocks that we use have prompted entries in them and I would like to find a way using iLogic to copy the entries from one title block to another within the same drawing; i.e.. if the user decides to change from an A2 to A1 drawing.
I already have an iLogic rule which allows the user to change the active border, title block and sheet size based on a form selection but would like it to capture the prompted entries already entered and re-use them after the change.
I want to ultimately place some metadata such as lens focal length, time of day, exposure etc. onto an image. This could be an action that perform on each image. But it would be nice if it was automatic.
The result being to have a jpg file with this information in the corner of the image for myself and my client's reference. I can't seem to find either a plugin, action or script that will do this for me. These are simply proof / scouting shots. I would be just as happy doing this in Lightroom as well.
Is there any way I can tell AC to only extract what my Visibility States are showing? IE if I have 2 Vis states within a block, 1 for a 2 seater couch and 1 for a 3 seater, can I configure AC to extract whichever Vis State is active? Currently it simply extracts the block name.
I have a drawing with a bunch of blocks. the blocks repeat themselves, but I need to define different attributes to each one of them and then being able to extraxt a list that I can read in excel.
I have a programming background but have never used AutoCad nor AutoLISP. I'm walking into a situation where we had a resident AutoLISP expert that has written a routine to output Autocad to PDF using the built-in PDF. I'm told the autolisp goes through a bunch of logic to create folder path, file, etc of the output PDF. I don't have access to the code.
What we need is for that routine to also set the metadata on the output PDF (Title, Author, Subject, Keywords), At the minimum we need to set the PDF Properties Title = to filename and it needs to be done at the time it is generated from Autocad to PDF.
While Smart Collections are an amazing workflow tool they can also be a bit lacking in the available selection criteria. For instance, there is a fairly small subset of metadata categories that can be built into a query. I would like to create Smart Collections based on other metadata entries but cannot under the current structure. Is there any limitation to having future versions allow access to all available metadata fields in the Smart Collection queries?
When I save an Illustrator (CS4 and below) file that has a document title and an author in the File Info tabs only the author field is properly transferred to the metadata of a PDF when using Save As PDF. The title field of the PDF gets the file name ("map_data_2006") and not the document title ("Map of Data in 2006"). How do I keep from re-populating the PDFs with metadata (which increases the file size after a resave) which is already stored in the AI files?
I want to aggregate all of the images I've captured by Capture Month and identify those images that were scanned or have no Capture Date. This question actually attempts to open the door for read access to all of the image metadata and the ability to store some of it in user-identified fields which, somehow, the user will be able to populate.
So - if the date fields (i.e. DateTime Original, DateTime Captured, DateTime Modified ) were broken down into, for example using DateTime Original: Original Year-YYYY, Original Month-MM, Original Day-DD. It may be possible to do this with a redefination of the schema used to define each of the fields.?
What's the difference and purpose of Keywording and metadata such as title and caption, crator, sublocation , label etc? Where & how is the information used? Where does it appear?
Currently, I am using Inventor to produce inventor DWG drawings for our supplies to read using autocad and trueview etc. One of our suppliers is a laser cutting firm and they need us to produce a seperate DXF file from our inventor drawings (for the flat patterns). As this has to be done manualy and is potentially error prone (as drawings can be automaticallyt updated where as DXF's requre a seperate 'save as' we had hoped to be able to just send the Inventor DWG for them to extract the geometry of the blank using their copy of AutoCad. I noticed that when opening an inventor DWG in autocad, the 'model' contains no geometry and it is placed on a seperate tab called sheet 1 (or whatever the sheet was called in inventor).
Is there any way that this data can be extracted from the DWG so that they may manipulate the geometry?
In a drawing file customer wants to create 2 title block. both the title blocks should be added to the same drawing. At any point of time only one should be visible to the user. Basically users in one country will see first title block and users in another country will see second title block.
Right now I'm copying it from one file to the other... but I'm sure there is some other way. Are title blocks saved anywhere other than embebed in the file? Autodesk Product Design Suite 2012 Ultimate Autodesk Developer Network [URL]
I’ve been given a drawing with 3 drawings w/title blocks in Paper Space, REV A, B & C. A is on the left, B is in the middle and C is on the right. It appears somebody has been printing REV B as when I select print it jumps straight to that drawing.
How would I print REV A or C? I can do it now but I have to delete the other 2 drawings so it focuses on the only remaining drawing.
When I start the layoutwizard and proceed to the insert title block the only choice I have is none. I have several title blocks created and cannot remember where to tell Cad to look. I just setup a new PC and installed AutoCad 2011.
I have a site plan with underground water lines on it. We had a surveyor go out and GPS where all the water valves are. I brought in all the survey points and put a block of a valve in all the areas that were surveyed. I created the block with two attributes.
1) Valve ID # (ex: 001) 2) Valve Size (ex: 8")
I would like to know if I can do the following:
1 - Highlight all the blocks and have AutoCAD create a table with the valve ID# and Size that I can export/copy/paste into excel.
2 - If I have accidentally number an abandoned valve can I remove that valve and then make all the blocks update themselves automatically. Basically they renumber themselves.
I have the AutoCAD 2013 Master Suite of Software's so I have every AutoDesk product there is. However I use AutoCAD 2010 and not 2013 (for production purposes)
have a question on if its possible to have blocks automatically renumbering themselves using block attributes.
For example I have 12 blocks numbered 1 through 12, I delete number 4 and I want the remaining 5 through 12 to shift down in value. Would it be possible to use block attributes to do this?
I need to insert two different (separate) title blocks into my idw drawings so both show on the drawing. One is the real Title block, and one is a Revision History block. I have listed them as Title blocks under Drawing Resources, but Inventor won't allow me to insert both. Is there any way round this?
I do not want the Revision History block as a Symbol.

I have trouble modifying the title blocks for the map book templates . Is there a specific folder that I need to save the adjusted title block in. Going through the block editor doesn’t work so I’m exploding the block and once I do that the links have been broken between the title block and map books.
Have more than one drawing template? (we use A and B size sheets)
My questions concerns, metric vs imperial A vs B vs C etc etc drawing sheet size title block does not scale down accordingly when change sheet size within an existing drawing template.
Is it possible to have one drawing template that can be toggle imperial vs metric, and then sheet size selected and then the title block scaled down or up accordingly? (I would assume this could be done using iLogic)
Or is it normal to have different drawing templates for sizes and units?
Im trying to make a small tool that i can share with other users that allows at the click of a button, a form to give options for titles & borders. Im pretty good with VBA but new to Inventor objects. The tool itself will change all of the borders & title blocks in multiple sheets to the selects ones on the form in one go.
I have the code set up to loop through the sheets and delete / replace all borders & title blocks and this works great. Im trying to find how i can loop through the borders & title blocks so that i can get them into a combo box for each. I cant find anything about this on the internet.
I'm trying to insert our company logo (a DXF file) into the a title block definition however the insertion point seems to default to 0,0.How can I insert it with a user defined insertion point?
You will see from the attached screen snipe what I mean about being forced to insert it at the 0,0, coordinates. I'd like to insert it into clear space then scale it and move it into replace the existing logo.
How to manage adding titleblocks to sheets. On my last few projects I had x-ref'd in a titleblock which contained all of the generic info that was consistent throughout the whole sheet set. Then I created a block that I inserted into each sheet that I could edit and make sheet specific.
While this works, once you have insertion points correct, I was thinking about instead making the generic part of the titleblock a block also. My concern is that as I have revisions, the generic block that I would update would not "ripple" through the whole set quite like it did when I was x-refing it in.
I can't for some reason get this rule to work, simply want to be able to choose what title block to use.
I created a text parameter with the multi-values: TES ELE and TES EQU
I have 2 title blocks in my template called TES ELE and TES EQU
Here is my code, basically, I want to rule to apply the title block based on the selection, which will be done on a form.
If Title = "TES ELE" ThenActiveSheet.TitleBlock = "TES ELE"ElseIf Title = "TES EQU" ThenActiveSheet.TitleBlock = "TES EQU"End IfInventorVb.DocumentUpdate()ThisApplication.ActiveView.Fit
I have found many threads in this forum and have used their solutions for this rule, but for some reason, my rule will not select the title block and place it in the drawing.
Here is a snap of my set-up and my template file is attached
