What's the difference and purpose of Keywording and metadata such as title and caption, crator, sublocation , label etc? Where & how is the information used? Where does it appear?
View 1 RepliesAny method when in the Library module to quickly edit the Title and Caption per image without having to use the mouse to click in the Title box each time. For instance - my current workflow is a bunch of products with their own SKU titles. Usually I would follow this step:
1. Import images from Camera -> Lightroom
2. Open Library and click on first image, select the Title field and enter the SKU (for instance : HG4356)
3. Now I would click in Title and type in "PROFILE" or "TOP" or "SIDE"
4. I would then use the right hand key on the keyboard to move to the next image in my filmstrip and then have to use the mouse to click into the Title field again.
5. Once all these images are completey named, I select them all and then select Library -> Rename Photos and use the Title_Caption as my fields and rename all my files to the correct SKU names.
I can usually automate option 3 somewhat by selecting all the PROFILE views and doing a sync etc... but the SKU section gets a bit tedious when having to mouse click each time into the field. Ideally, I would like a "Naming" feature where it asks for the name, upon typing it in and pressing enter, it jumps to the next image, into the same field and you can start typing again.
I know its sounds a bit lazy - but when you have over a 1000+ images to rename - it does take its time - and anything to speed up this process.
As far as I can tell, Copy Metadata and Synchonize Metadata do the same thing. Is there a difference in what they do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to print a picture and use the caption from the meta data and the information about shutter speed, focal length and so on. I figured out that there is a way to print this information in the print module, but it is attached directly to the image, which does not look good. Question is there another way? Maybe involving Photoshop? I would like to have the flexibility I have with the slide show designer, where I can put caption to the left side of the image and ISO, shutter speed and so on to the right. Is this possible somehow?
I am looking for an easy preset that I could apply to a lot of pictures.
Is there a way to export images with borders (like the slideshow layout) and metadata caption (iptc/exif). I'm using a plug-in Mogrify now, but this way I have to export every photo twice (first to create borders, then to add the metadata). photo below is exported with the Mogrify plug-in.
It would be awsome to export photos like the gallery layout since most lightboxes have only 1 line of caption and no design/edit options. This would save heaps of time.
How can I set the Title and Caption for multiple pictures at once? If I select a range of say 8 picture that I want to have the same title and caption in the metadata, only one of them getst the title and caption set. The title and caption remain blank for the rest.

I am having problem during hierarchy in key wording.As shown in A, sometimes it does auto completes but as shown in B many times it doesn’t and manual entry is needed. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm in library mode and trying to add the same series of keywords to a group of about 60 photos. All these photos are highlighted at the bottom of my screen but one photo appears to be highlighted more brightly. I've typed in a group of keywords in my sidebar and then clicked enter. I thought that action should tag all 60 photos with the same keywords but it doesn't. Only the brightly highlighted photo gets the keywords. Surely there has to be a way to tag multiple photos with the same keywords all at once. I've watched Cris Orwig's video on Adobe and am following the same steps he demonstrates but the keywords are only tagged to the one photo.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using Bridge for a bunch of years. I have a large amount of photos. They are all keyword in Bridge. I've created a hierarchy of keyword that works quite well and evolve naturally.I have approx 16-17 TB data distributed on 7 NAS servers. Works quite well.
The big pain with Bridge is that it isn't a very coool photo-database. LR on the other hand cool work like the photo-db. LR can reference photos on NAS servers and it has search mechanism and can function as photo-db.
I have a large bunch of photos with assigned keywords. Can I import these pictures in LR and have the keyword along?
I know how the two are used in practice but why is there such a distinction in VideoStudio?

Does it turn off any changes I made using that certain panel? What does it do?
When I save an Illustrator (CS4 and below) file that has a document title and an author in the File Info tabs only the author field is properly transferred to the metadata of a PDF when using Save As PDF. The title field of the PDF gets the file name ("map_data_2006") and not the document title ("Map of Data in 2006"). How do I keep from re-populating the PDFs with metadata (which increases the file size after a resave) which is already stored in the AI files?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Lightroom 4.4 on Windows 7x64. I have heard that under preferences its better to uncheck the box that says "store presets with catalog" because it is better to have the presets not tied to and/or embedded in a specific catalog.
However, I noticed that whether the box is unchecked or checked, the presets are always stored in their own subfolder separate from the catalog. Specifically, if the box is checked the path is: "C: Drive"->Lightroom, if the box is unchecked the path is: "C: Drive"->Users->"username"->AppData->Roaming->Adobe->Lightroom. So the presets are not embedded in the catalog file in either case, they are just stored in subfolders in different places (albeit in one case it seems user specific and in another it seems global). So what is the real point of the "store presets with catalog" checkbox?
I want to use my Ipad 2 to show people pictures that I have taken. I am not certain as to the best workflow for doing this. I store all my pictures on external hard drives and am hoping to avoid bringing processed photos onto my computer hard drive. I have done a search on the forum and have not seen a recommended work flow.

I'm walking into a situation where we had a resident AutoLISP expert that has written a routine to output Autocad to PDF using the built-in PDF. I'm told the autolisp goes through a bunch of logic to create folder path, file, etc of the output PDF. I don't have access to the code.
What we need is for that routine to also set the metadata on the output PDF (Title, Author, Subject, Keywords), At the minimum we need to set the PDF Properties Title = to filename and it needs to be done at the time it is generated from Autocad to PDF.

I've got a website with a galery made with piwigo and I use the piwigo's plugin to publish / export my photos to the website.
I'd like to complete my caption with something like that for example:

I've tried different solution without success:
1 - Using LR Transporter plugin It's not the solution because this plugin change caption in LR. I want to change only during export.
2 - Using rc Exportant pluginI don't manage to change something in the preset. I've got a bad level in english and I don't really understand what to do to make what I want
3 - Doing my own plugin I've tried with lightroom SDK. I manage to do a box in export box to complete some metadata. But I'm not a programmer, only a photographer, and I don't know how to do after.
I know that it's possible to do something like that. I use jf Flickr plugin and ther is a place to do that in this plugin (Metadata Management / Image Title - Description).
I'd like to do exactly the same with piwigo's publish.
I would like the caption or title to show as an overlay on exported jpeg files. How do I do it? Do I need to do it in Photoshop or can I directly do it in Lightroom 5 CC.
