I'm in process of creating a photobook using LR4's Book Module. Whenever I create a multiple columns page or photo caption, the text won't flow from the 1st column into the succeeding column.... The multiple columns feature however does work for normal text placeholders.
View 10 RepliesThis is probably very easy, but I cant figure it out. Whenever I try to type text on the spine of my lightroom book, Lightroom puts it horizontally. I like to rotate the text on the spine of my book by 90 degrees so that it reads from top to bottom, like on any normal book. How do I do that?
By the way, when I start a new book, the spine text appears correctly by default (rotated by 90 degrees). In my existing book, the text cursor appears only for horizontal flow however, despite using the same design template. Is this a bug or did I accidently change the orientation of the text?
I am in the process of making a photobook using Lightroom and discovered when I reached page 240 that I couldn't add any additional pages, much to my surprise. I was surprised because I knew from Blurb's website that the limit for standard paper is 440 pages and mistakenly assumed that this limit would also apply within Lightroom. I did more research online and found many others being surprised by this limitation after spending hours and days on a photo book. I will likely work around this by exporting from Lightroom to .jpg and uploading to Blurb, but that will take extra time and effort and reduces the appeal of using Lightroom to create a Blurb book. I had also tried exporting from Lightroom to .pdf only to find that the .pdf format exported by Lightroom is not compatible with the requirements of Blurb.

I finished my book, went to add page numbers to do the location index, but can't find anything that would automate it. Do I really have to fat finger page numbers? If so you've got to be kidding. Books require page numbering. How could they be so ridiculous as to miss this important function? I'll see if I can take the time to rebuild the book in Blurb's bookify.

I found some pages that have a grid of photos. Is there any way to start from scratch or edit a multi photo page? I'd like the text elements as well. This would be an amazing time saver in preparing a story board book.

View 3 Replies View Relatedand for all of us thousands of users who DO NOT LIVE in the United States to be able to use our own photo-book vendors (who the hell is Blurb anyway?), and for you to give us a SIMPLE ability to be able to define custom page sizes.
But no, we have to go through five versions of lightroom, and STILL NOT have this really simple feature which would make the lives of literally thousands of hard working photographers easier.
Adobe, and all you wonderful people who made this marvellous piece of software, realise this: there exist many, many, many people who have bought your software -- who have no idea what Blurb is, and have no inclination of using it. enable custom page sizes so that we may use local vendors -- who have thoughtfully set page sizes that do not match the inbuilt ones.
I haven't been able to find any zoom levels between full-page view and the Ctrl-U zoom that seems to be 1:1. At full page, 12 point text is very difficult to read and edit and anything smaller is impossible. At the Ctrl-U zoom level, I get about 40 characters of 12 point text across the screen & proofreading & editing a text box is very time consuming.

I find I cannot pick up the additional text by clicking the + sign to place it on the next text cell thus linking text from page to page. Am I missing something or is such a useful facility unavailable in Lightroom? If that's the case, is there a good reason for Lightroom not offering text linking between pages?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOther than the cover template, there doesn't seem to be any page template that allows you to put type directly over a photo -- which can be a useful graphic technique. I know I could do it in Photoshop, and import it into Lightroom, but that wouldn't allow for easy chages in text type or color, etc. and would be an interruption of the book module's workflow. It would be nice to be able to add a text box to a page. Can it now be done and I just haven't found the way?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to up load a 40 page 12" x 12" photo book to Blurb from the book module in Lightroom 4.2. It renders the pages and then having rendered the cover gets stuck, about 50% to 60% through the process. None of the photographs are starred or colour coded. I have uploaded successfully from this iMac in the last few weeks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working on creating a book layout for print. I opened the .doc file through my Mac text editor and placed in InDesign CC as a text flow. I am working on adding design elements now (after I adjusted the page layout of the text on all the pages) and blank pages keep inserting themselves in weird places (for instance page 7 will suddenly turn into a blank page and my text will move itself down while design elements such as chapter headings will stay in the place where I put them, but then be completely out of place according to where the text is now). I have tried to adjust it every way I can think of--- by moving all of the text up onto the new blank page and re-aligning the chapter headings, by moving the blank pages to the end of the book and deleting them, and of course, by just simply deleting them. (Deleting them just causes the layout to become mis-aligned even worse, and just re-adds the blank page I attempted to delete.)

Viewing the page as three rectangles -- the rectangle to the left of the unwanted column, the rectangle containing the unwanted column, and the rectangle to the right of the unwanted column, I want to eliminate the middle rectangle and join the right rectangle directly to the left rectangle.

I've cleared my library and re-imported the images back in and placed them on the book ready to export to pdf but when I click export it says "Exporting book to pdf" in the top-left but nothing shows on the progress bar? I've resized all of the images to be 6MB TIFF files as this worked for me on a pdf I did yesterday.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have previously used the book module to set up a photo book. During the time I was working with it, I would switch over to the develop module to make adjustments to pictures and then come back and continue working on the book. I have since decided not to use that book and cleared it out.
Now, something has changed (and I can't figure out what). I'll go into the book module and place some pictures into a book. However, if I leave the book module and come back, all updates to my book are gone and I am shown an empty book. Another odd thing that is happening though is that the pictures in the film strip along the bottom of the screen still show a number above them indicating that they have been used in a book. But I can't access or find that book anywhere.
In Lightroom 4, all my photos are currently sitting in the Library Module in Raw form so none have been exported into jpg form. When I do Auto Layout into the Book Module, it imports all my photos which are currently Raw. Should I before I do Auto Layout in Book Module save them in the Develop Module as JPGs? If I can do Auto Layout with raw photos (and then send onto Blurb), would I lose any detail in the photos by not saving them to a Jpg first? Does Lightroom 4 recognize a difference between jpg and raw files in Book Module?
View 1 Replies View RelatedPutting a book together with the LR4 book module - incredibly my first time as a) have been too used to iPhoto books, and b) have been negligent in making books PERIOD. That aside I just want to make sure I am interpreting the Page Bleed guides correctly. If I understand properly displaying the Page Bleed shows the area of the image that will be chopped off during book production to produce a nice, clean full bleed final product. And so to that end with the Page Bleed guides active I should ensure that any image detail that I want to ensure does NOT get clipped should be INSIDE those bleed guides.
I'd hate to go through all this, spend the money and time, and realize too late I blew it.
Sometimes, some pictures are bulrred in the book I try to organize. The same picture in library is OK
Can I send my book to Blurb without fear ? Is it sur that the picture will be OK on the book ?
My Book Module toolbar has disappeared. How do I toggle it back on?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use the Book module and export the resulting pages to jpeg files. Any text (text field, page caption, photo caption) is rasterized when zooming to 1:1 on the exported jpeg file. The pattern on the font edges is sharp without any smoothing (only black or white pixels, no shades on edges). In the printed pictures one can still see this pattern, it is really ugly. I never saw this when usig photoshop or any of those simple online programs for preparing photobooks.
In the "Book Settings" I set the same resolution as I use for printing by Blurb-like printing companies, e.g., 400ppi/dpi. Of course, the "solution" would be to set much higher ppi in the "Book Settings". But then propably the export sharpening does not work properly.
I am trying to make a book in the book module in Lightroom 4. I want to change the text color from the default black to other colors. HOW?

I found a template with two vertical images that I liked a lot, but all the options available have some sort of funky black outline around them! I can't believe they didn't just include one of the same without an outline. They really need to have the ability to develop your own templates!!
