i want to know how to create template file right from scratch and which format I should use to extract information from blocks and its attributes.
View 1 RepliesI wish to import from a TOPCON file. The points are from a GPS unit and are in standard form (easting, northing and elevation). I have been able in import the points into AutoCAD, and although they are in the correct location relative to each other, their geographical information has been altered (ie, the old coordinates are lost, and any measurements between points are now completely inaccurate).
I am working in metric units, and I think the problem may be that when I import the block, it comes in with 'block units' in inches. I cannot see how to change this. I also cannot select 'locate using geographical information' when I insert the block, which I think may be important in preserving geographical information.
How I can create new drawing(.dwg) file using drawing template(.dwt)file in back end (Means with out showing in front end).

I am a AutoCad drafter for telecommunications and I have utility pole points (long/lats)
I can insert the poles via long/lat and all is great, my issue is I would like more information in those points.
For example, pole number, class, HOA, Make Ready. Currently I create a survey data store and import ASCII Points using PNE(comma delimited)
So with my Excel file (this is where I get my pole information from) I get a point/northing/easting to enter into the formatting section.
I would like to add more information to these individual points, like ploe number, class, HOA...
If I view the point table I see that there are a lot of other columns, can I use them or customize them? is there a quick tutorial on this issue?
regarding extracting dynamic blocks.
Is there any way I can tell AC to only extract what my Visibility States are showing? IE if I have 2 Vis states within a block, 1 for a 2 seater couch and 1 for a 3 seater, can I configure AC to extract whichever Vis State is active? Currently it simply extracts the block name.
Currently have a template setup which we use and when everything is erased, purged, audited etc and the file literally cannot be purged any more the filesize is still 10mb.
There however several hundred items in the "Blocks" section of the purge dialogue box under "View items you cannot purge"..how do you get rid of these?
we have files containing hardly anything which are 20mb and empty files which are 10mb,
The default file location for the template .dwt file in my AutoCAD options keeps resetting to None (see attaached, red arrow). It should be the same location as the line below it (see attached, green arrow). I have reset it a few times now, but it keeps reverting back to None. Do you know why this is happening and/or how I can fix it so the setting will stay?

When i go to open the new template the first thing i notice is that the thumb nail has a black ground , while the other templates that came with autocad have a white background !...when i open the dwt file it opens like a normal dwg file in model space not in paper space. the dwt file behaves as just a normal file .

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am confused how the blocks work in AutoCAD 2013. I previously had 2004 and had an add on called ARCH T. This add on had an entire library of blocks. Although, the new version of Arch T that I would need to buy is $1000... so I'm trying to avoid that. I know you can insert blocks from within AutoCAD. But the process confuses me. In the design center, it seems like I just need to go to a drawing file and it pulls up blocks that are already within that file. But its not necessarily all of them. Is there a way to get all the blocks in one file to pull from? How does this work??

Click Application menu> Print> Manage Plotters.In the Autodesk Plotter Manager, double-click the Add-a-Plotter Wizard shortcut icon. When I click on "Manage Plotters", windows explorer opens the folder where our pc3 files are located. I don't see Add-a-Plotter Wizard shortcut icon?
I've never created a pc3 file from scratch. I've modified existing pc3 files and done a save as before, but I need to create one from scratch in 2013. Some of the old ones won't work as others have explained here [URL].......and it was suggested to make a new one. Also, when I edit a pc3 file in 2013, I no longer get the option to either "Apply changes for the current plot only" or "Save changes to the following file".
Are there any official document describe the limits in a DWG file? For example, the maximum number of blocks that can be added, the maximum number of layers, the maximum length of an object name, etc.?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an AutoCAD drawing (I did not create it) of a proposed trail in my city, and I've been tasked with making some kind of model or render of a section of it. I'm at a loss for how to even start, unfortunately. In the end I would like to have an accurate 3D model of a boardwalk section of the trail with surrounding terrain. I have Sketchup, Google Earth, and Revit at my disposal.
My first problem is topography. When I import the CAD drawing to Revit it seems there is some topographical data, which will be needed to realistically build the boardwalk on top of. I was able to get the terrain of the area into Sketchup from Google Earth, but then I don't know exactly where to build the model.
I've attached an image of a floor I created in the outline of the boardwalk. The area in question begins at the two handicap parking stalls (represented as the two blue towers for some hilarious reason) and ends at the second square (a viewing platform). My preferred method would be get an accurate topograhic site in Revit, build the boardwalk, and then place surrounding vegetation so I can get some renders.
EDIT: I've attached "Screenshot 2" which shows I found I was able to create terrain in Revit by selecting a layer of the CAD file. However that layer is suspended above, and my placeholder floor is underneath. Now I just need to get the floor (representing the boardwalk) to go along the terrain.
My PCG s are coming in with bluish colors . They should have reds, oranges, and yellows also. my hardware accelerator is on and i am using a realistic viewing style. using 2013 AutoCAD. Creating PCG files from a FLS file.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am not sure this is even possible, but could I use some sort of invisible block attribute data and everytime I insert it into a drawing (I use the same block multiple times within a drawing) it would autopopulate fields in a table. For example I have a smoke detector symbol I insert, I also have a specific address associated with every single detection symbol I insert into a drawing, would I be able to attach data such as what type of detector it may be and have the address and type automatically populate in a table everytime I insert my block into a drawing?

But I only got 1 line. The second line is missing. When I use command to create them, everything is fine. Also if I change to
Line 0,1 5.0,1
Line 0,5 5.0,5
Two lines show up.
When I am working on several drawngs at the same time, I use the Publish command to plot them as a group. However to save the settings as a DSD file for future use, every open file needs to be saved. Why is this? Is there a way to disable that requirement?
There is no reason I can think of besides "by design" for this. The DSD file is only a list of drawings and their plot settings and is not dpendent in any way I can think of, to whether or not one its drawings is open and not saved.
I have been asked to write utility that will open a DWG file, retrieve layer data from the file and put it into a spreadsheet.
I know nothing about AutoCAD but I have been reading on this forum and gathering information. I have found that I have to write a dll that will be used inside of AutoCAD. Here is what I have so far:
1. I have AutoCAD 2008 (will convert to 2011 or 2012 later)
2. I have .NET Framework 4.0
3. I have Visual Studio 2010 Express
4. Needs to be done using VB.NET.
I need to do this using .NET.
Do I need the 2008 API?
Could this be done easier using VBA?
Once I create the dll how do I use it inside AutoCAD?
How do I grab the layer data for studs and braces?

for example a pipe has an attribute showing the pipe diameter and intead of having to manually type it out I would like a way to extract that information.
Is there a way to do it? Whether using a specific method during the importing of the Shape file or another process?

I have a small project that I'm working on that inserts a new layout based on a user selected template size (A, B, C or D sizes). I need the program to insert the layout along with the titleblock geometry from the existing A, B, C, or D dwt files.
I know how to add a new blank layout. However, I'm having some trouble determing how to insert the titleblock geomtry. I've read a number of posts on here related to layouts, and while they were informative, none of them covered exactly what I need to do.
