AutoCAD Inventor :: 3D Scanner File Extension Type?
Oct 12, 2011My organisation has a laser 3D scanner which we have used to capture the external profile of Ironman toy. I like to import the model into Inventor for modification. However, I do not know what is the file type which Inventor can import from. The output from the FARO 3D scanner are wrp, 3ds, dxf, oogl, iv, ply, stl, u3d, wrl, obj. It does not have stp file type.
What file type should I ask my colleague to output to ?
AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Make External Reference File (DXF) Clearer
Jan 16, 2013I had a DXF file with an external reference file inside, when showing in AutoCAD 2012, the external file appeared very 'dull' and blurry. But when I look at the same file in the new AutoCAD 2013, it shows very clear.. this puzzles me, and our clients are complaining about this quite often.
Is there a setting I can change in 2012 version to make it (external file) clearer? The right hand side shows the external file (table and words) much better than the left.
GIMP :: Extension Box To Select The File Type
Jun 24, 2012Ive recently upgraded to the new GIMP 2.8 and I cant seem to save files as anything other than gimp project files. I open the extension box to select the file type and there just isnt the option anymore. Do i have to reinstall GIMP or should I revert back to 2.6? I wouldnt think they would get rid of the ability to save in different formats so there must be a problem somewhere.

Apr 2, 2012I have a surface, to which I've added data from a ENZ file. No problems - I had a workable surface. I want to be able to work on the drawing at home as well as work. So I brought home the DWG as well as the ENZ file thinking that if both were in the same directory, it would work OK. But I get an error saying the Point file can't be found. I can't see any way to make the file reference relative, rather than absolute.

Jun 27, 2012I'm working on a large infrastructure project with numerous of drawings. On quite a few layout drawings I need to have the same base set of references, however I need to change the layer settings (colors, lineweight etc.). This cannot be done in the base reference itself as it is used by others. As the layouts I work with includes other references as well, it is time consuming to filter and change layer settings on each base reference.
My concept is to have a master reference file to manage all layer settings and add/remove base references. When the master reference is referenced into the layout, all layer settings on the base references should stay as set in the master reference. In this way I can easily control all base references with one file and make sure all changes will be the same for all the layouts.

I know nothing about AutoCAD but I have been reading on this forum and gathering information. I have found that I have to write a dll that will be used inside of AutoCAD. Here is what I have so far:
1. I have AutoCAD 2008 (will convert to 2011 or 2012 later)
2. I have .NET Framework 4.0
3. I have Visual Studio 2010 Express
4. Needs to be done using VB.NET.
I need to do this using .NET.
Do I need the 2008 API?
Could this be done easier using VBA?
Once I create the dll how do I use it inside AutoCAD?
How do I grab the layer data for studs and braces?
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Extracting Shape File Data
Oct 9, 2012I am trying to import a Shape file and extract the attribute data associated with the 'lines' (sewer pipes) into text format.
for example a pipe has an attribute showing the pipe diameter and intead of having to manually type it out I would like a way to extract that information.
Is there a way to do it? Whether using a specific method during the importing of the Shape file or another process?
*I use AutoCAD Map 3D 2011.

Sep 12, 2013I have a requirement to extract metadata from AutoCAD files with a script. This metadata is the attributes that appear in the files Title Block in the corner. I have come up with some code that I believe can do this, but I cannot run it, since I've been developing in Visual Studio using .NET, and it appears that that .NET API can only be used to build plugins for AutoCAD.
Do I have to use VBA to access the COM? How do I even get started with VBA/COM API? It took me forever to actually find a listing for the .NET Object Model - I don't want to search for that long again to find the COM API, especially if I'm going about this in the wrong way again.

Aug 5, 2009know of a conversion strategy to get a DEM file that has IMG extension into Map 2008?
We do have Arcview, which will open the IMG file (ERDAS Imagine raster format?), but it will only save this as standard raster formats (jpg, tiff). I am doubtfull that one can use these formats as a DEM in Map.

Sep 12, 2013I designed artwork for a large banner (84" x 32") so my AI artboard is that large. As you can imagine, with all the text and graphics I used, this file size is 22.8 MB. I need to email this art to the printer, but the file size is too large to email. How do i go about reducing the file size in AI so it still maintains large format print resolution? Will saving to a PDF lose the print quality?

Since I can do it directly in autocad 2013, i presume that there should be a function in the API, that i could use to do the same. So far, i tried with AcadDocument.export(filename, FileExtension, AcadSelectionSet) with no luck. I cannot put PDF as a valid file extension.

AutoCad 2D :: File Extension DWT Not Selected In Template Dialog Box
Nov 11, 2011Rank beginner using 2010 version autocad. When starting a new drawing using the New command > Opening up Template dialog box. I don't see the file extension acad.dwt in the Name drop down list. What I do see in the Template dialog box while looking & working its way down in the Name drop down list is acad - name plot sytles acad - name plot styles 3d acad & acad 3d and so on contuning down the line. While giving it a file name to save it high lighed in blue is acad.dwt.
Under File type in the Template dialog box there are 3 options. They are Drawing Template (*dwt) Drawing (*dwg) & Standard (*dws). In the Drafting settings dialog box Object Snap tab is opened all options are selected. On the staus bar Object Snaps & Dynamic Input are both on. When starting a new drawing the file extention acad. dwt has been on and working for weeks up intill zipping and unzipping files yesterday for a tutorial that I am working on in regards to 2010 autocad software.

Jan 8, 2013I've been working on a certificate and i saved it without looking at the file type. For some reason it set the file type to (.5). What is that? Is there any way I can open it again in CS5? Is there a file converter I could use. I just need to basically open the file agian in CS5 so I can continue to edit the certificate. I have tried opening the file with CS5 and CS6 and I get this message:
