I want to reference an idw sheet from one file into another idw file.
Purpose:To duplicate details from one drawing into another drawing without copying sheets from drawing to drawing.
This prevents changing the annotations of the original detail in files that have the same detail that someone may change.

is possible to retrieve the information of the reference in the iam file without open the file in session ? Opening with notepad the iam file, at the end of file, the references is contains in the planar text.
Is possible to retrieve documentation for this request ?
Is there a way to attach a reference file such as a pdf to an idw browser in R2013? There are many times we include torque specs, etc and it would be nice to include the catalog page or some reference to the original manufacturer specs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a surface, to which I've added data from a ENZ file. No problems - I had a workable surface. I want to be able to work on the drawing at home as well as work. So I brought home the DWG as well as the ENZ file thinking that if both were in the same directory, it would work OK. But I get an error saying the Point file can't be found. I can't see any way to make the file reference relative, rather than absolute.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a large infrastructure project with numerous of drawings. On quite a few layout drawings I need to have the same base set of references, however I need to change the layer settings (colors, lineweight etc.). This cannot be done in the base reference itself as it is used by others. As the layouts I work with includes other references as well, it is time consuming to filter and change layer settings on each base reference.
My concept is to have a master reference file to manage all layer settings and add/remove base references. When the master reference is referenced into the layout, all layer settings on the base references should stay as set in the master reference. In this way I can easily control all base references with one file and make sure all changes will be the same for all the layouts.

I wondered if there is a way of changing view reference from one object to another.
Example.
I have two similar models but drawing done for one.
I could save it as with a different name and replace in all the views referenciing from old model to new one.
Possible?
I have created parts made up of a smaller parts themselves, them multiple assemblies of different parts that are all used in a final asembly. Now I need to give this whole assembly to someone. I tried sending all the files together with the assembly. However, when the receiver tried to open the assembly, most of the file references could not be resolved and inventor asked for the path of each, which would take too long to do. Is there any way around this?

I currently have code to read each cell in a sheet, but unfortunately some of the Excel sheets have in excess of 5000 cells and it is taking too long to read. So I am switching to another method.
The program will check dates of TXT files and XLS file to make sure TXT files are current (if not, open and recreate TXT files).Then read the TXT files (much faster).
Where I am getting stuck is 2 places -
Get the names of each sheet in the excel file (not always a known name)
Save each sheet as separate TXT file.

I created a text line in my idw template that asks for the filename and path as shown in the attach jpg. it works fine with the first idw but since we use multiple sheets in an idw (no vault here) the text line does not show up on the rest of the sheets. how can i get this to show up on every sheet in my idw?

All the documentation says it's located in the Documents and Settings directory, but Windows Vista eliminated that folder and thus it is not in Win7 either.

To get the name it is ActiveSheet.Name, but ActiveSheet.Number does not work. Getting the name give something like ASSM:1, so if there was a way to take that and subtract the colon and everything before it that would work also. I am not a programmer, I've just taked some programs I found online and modified them a little to do what I want to do, but this is holding me back a bit.
Overall, I'm trying to modify the drawing view label to have a project number, referenced from the drawign iProperties, a view label, and sheet number, and then save that info in an iproperty of the part, and then reference that in the BOM so it automatically labels all of the views and fills out a column of the BOM to reference which page and view to find the parts of the assembly. I have everything working except for the sheet number.
Since I create sheet metal files in Inventor 2014, the subtype of this parts is not always the same. Migrated files from an earlier version have the right ID.
So my add-in to detect sheet metal parts fails.

I can export to a DXF but then i must manually go in and make changes to the DXF in order for it to cut right on our plasma and laser tables. As far as punching holes and cutting beams any clues on this either? We were outsourcing our drafting work before but now we are switching over to in house. I have contacted our supplier of plate nesting software and it looks like they sell something but that means another license of it on another computer.

But when I look at the same file in the new AutoCAD 2013, it shows very clear.. this puzzles me, and our clients are complaining about this quite often.
Is there a setting I can change in 2012 version to make it (external file) clearer? The right hand side shows the external file (table and words) much better than the left.
my colleague that is on holidays right now sent some civil 3d drawings that contain data references to another office and they are having broken reference issues with the surfaces. I opened the drawing in our office and the surfaces are there and showing the data ref symbols in prospector but when i look through the data shortcuts folder below in prospector the surfaces are not there.
how do i locate the .xml files or if they have been deleted how do these surfaces appear in my drawing.
We are using Autocad Civil 3D 2010 and are also using the 2010 Vault.
We are having problems with one project in Civil 3D (project in Vault). We are trying to create a surface reference and are getting the error: "Drawing is already attached to project X."
Note: This drawing is not vaulted, only the cross section surface that has the final grade surface in it is vaulted.
When we test the same process with a new document we are able to reference the surface fine and the command shows: _AeccCreateSurfaceReference which works properly.
If we use the command ._Xopen to open a reference drawing, the file name of the reference file is converted to lowercase, and it gets saved this way if we save the drawing. (We typically name files using Camel Case and want to keep the file names this way)
However if we open the reference file by right clicking on the file name in the Reference Manager and choosing open, then the reference file is opened and the file name retains it's case.
I knew how to use Reference Manager to replace xref saved path. Otherwise, if we change the xref file name also, RM could work?

Here's the problem: I need to extract some info from an AutoCAD table to a reference file that can be opened in Microsoft Excel. Everything I find on the subject is actually an answer to the question "How does <DATAEXTRACTION> work?" or "How to do an extraction of DATA in AutoCAD?"....
In this particular case I have a set of production drawings (cut tickets) for manufacturing of stone. And in every single sheet I have this material schedule or a table, if you wish, that is made with an AutoCAD table. In this schedule I have the height, width and thickness of the stone plate and with a function it measures it's area and volume. What I want to do is to extract those values into a reference file that I can open with Microsoft Excel, as I already said.
