AutoCAD 2010 :: Additional Linework Added To Shorter Dimensions

Dec 5, 2012

Years ago someone at our firm created his own dimension tick block because he didn't like how thin AutoCAD's built-in tick was. I would agree with him, but I've found using our own tick block creates these really odd additional lines along the dimension line when at smaller dimensions -- I have a feeling the lines are inserted for some reason when the dimension text gets too close to the extension lines. In the following image and in the enclosed DWG, you can see what I mean:

At the bottom left is the tick block on its own. Above that a typical dimension, which looks fine. To the right of that you see the additional length added to the dimension line. And then the next 2 just show some more examples: the lines disappear when I go to 3'-2" but reappear at 2'-11" which is what led me to believe it was due to the proximity of the text to the lines.

Above all that I exploded a dimension and moved the components away from each other: there is a line added to the end of the block and that line does not show up at all in the 3'-3" dimension.

how to suppress these and why they are added in only when the text gets close to the linework?

Edit: the picture I originally attached was missing the exploded block -- replaced with a better image here. db

Lightroom :: Additional Pages Cannot Be Added

Mar 19, 2014

in Lightroom 5.3, I have reached page 239 on creating a large landscape photobook. Now on adding additional pages, Lightroom says "page limit reached - The current output format limits the page count to 240, so additional pages cannot be added". I changed the layout of the book to hard cover image wrap and the paper type to standard. But Lightroom continues to give the same message.

Now my question is, if there is a page limit in Lightroom. On the Blurb homepage the limit for a photobook with this layout with standard paper is 440 pages. I have spent a lots of time in creating 239 pages and I don’t want to restart.

AutoCAD 2010 :: SNAP Automatically Turns Itself ON When Draw Some Linework

Mar 8, 2012

If my SNAP is turned OFF it automatically turns itself ON when i draw some linework. It keeps doing this in certain 2D only cad files. As a temporary fix i have tried to set my snap spacing to .0001 to keep the crosshairs running smoothly but they still appear excessively jumpy at about 1 unit. This only happens in plotable drawings that contain a certain 2D xref and the offending xref itself. If i unload all the xrefs the problem DISAPPEARS, although this doesn't let me draft any easier!

My OSNAP is working fine although it does reset itself when i have been using certain LISP routines.

FYI, if I open the same drawing on another users computer the SNAP stays off and the crosshairs run smooth.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Linework Over Xref PDFs Keep Moving In Model Space Spontaneously

Jul 26, 2013

I'm using Autocad 2010, and have never had this problem before. Working in plan, the traced linework over 2 xref pdfs (both on locked layers) keeps moving in model space either when I'm performing another command on different linework or when I regen. The layers that keep moving are all locked, and do the same when they're frozen. There is no consistency to where they move--usually within the same screen view--so it makes me wonder whether I xrefed these files into a different plane? They're not georeferenced though.

Or is this just a bug? I thought the file may be corrupted so started a new one, still same issue.

3ds Max :: Make One Shorter Animation Loop Within Longer One?

Mar 1, 2013

I want to make one shorter animation loop within a longer one. Example would be a rotor of a plane spinning when the plane flies by, or a parameter of a material looping within lets say 15 frames (e.g. UV offset changing in cycles) while the whole walk cycle is 60 frames long. If it is a simple property that has to be changed I could simply key in a multiplied value (in the previous example I could offset the UV by 4.0 so it would loop 4 times) but this wont be a solution for more complex stuff.

Photoshop :: Make A Photo Seem To Have Shorter Depth Of Field?

Aug 29, 2012

Have you ever wanted to make a photo seem to have shorter depth of field?  Prior to Photoshop CS6 this was no small feat to achieve digitally and end up with a pleasing and visually believable result.

Photographers know that setting the aperture wide can change the mood of a shot completely.  Sometimes getting the DOF just right can make the difference between an "also ran snapshot" and an award winning photograph.

With today's smaller digital sensors - and even with big sensors if too small an aperture is available - sometimes we get an image that's exposed right, that's composed well, that's caught the moment.  More of it is sharp than we'd like, and the background or foreground is simply distracting.

Enter the new Photoshop CS6 blur filters. With the Tilt-Shift variant, one can progressively blur pixels based on a definable gradient/mask, so that we get that familiar progressive front-to-back blur change.

Armed with this powerful new capability, and with the subject masking/separation facilities we've had for a couple of versions now, this becomes possible:

1.  Separate subject from surroundings with a good mask - e.g., quick select, refine edge, make a new layer with just the parts you want to remain sharp showing on it.  A good mask isn't difficult to make any more!  Hide this layer when done.

2. Remove the subject, at least around the edges, from the background layer underneath, e.g., by selecting using the above mask, expanding the selection, and doing Content Aware Fill and/or Cloning.  This is important because in the subsequent blur operation we don't want parts of the sharp subject blurring into the background.  That just looks weird.

3. Use Photoshop CS6's Tilt-Shift Blur to visually shorten the DOF in the background layer, with the center point and unblurred region set to coincide with the position of the subject in the shot.  Adjust the settings to taste, which isn't as much of a crap shoot any more since the blurs actually update in real time on screen.

4.  Make the layer above visible, maybe do some things with the lighting (which is fairly easy, now that subject is separated from the background), and voila, a whole new feel to the photo.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Use Ordinate Dimensions

Jan 12, 2012

I am using AutoCAD 2012.  I am trying to use ordinate dimensions for the first time.  So far, when I want to add the X and Y dimensions for a particular feature in my drawing, I choose the "ordinate" dimension type and then I select my feature.  I drag my leader horizontally and it gives me the Y dimension.  Then I choose the "ordinate" dimension type again, I select my feature again, and this time I drag my leader vertically and it gives me the X dimension.

I like how this works, but I think I would like it better if, rather than having two separate leaders for X and Y dimensions, I could just have one leader that would show both X and Y dimensions separated by a comma...i.e. something like [X:5.0; Y 7.5]

AutoCAD 2010 :: Dimensions In Viewports With UCS?

Also I have some viewports with UCS (I used commands UCS, PLAN) where dimensions look wrong, text is not oriented correctly. Programmatically created dims in viewports oriented as in model space, not considering current UCS.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Dimensions In Paperspace

Jun 25, 2013

When I make a layout with a part of my drawing in a viewport, I switch over to paperspace to draw dimension lines in it. Although the layout is displayed in another scale (e.g. 1:100) it puts the right dimensions at the drawing.

But now a problem appears:

With one of my drawings the layout does not put the right dimensions at the drawing in paperspace. I really don't know what went wrong. Strange dimensions appear, as if there must be a strange scale factor somewhere. (Dimlfac=1)

AutoCAD 2010 :: Dimensions In Paper Space

Feb 16, 2012

I had the need on occasion to dimension in Paper Space. I set up a "Dim Style" to accomplish this in either 1/8" or 1/4" Scale. The problem I am having is the consistency of the actual dimension.

For example: I could draw a simple box 10'x2'. When I dimension in Paper Space, sometimes it correctly displays the dimensions and sometimes it incorrectly displays the dimension.

I attached 2 screen shots of what is happening. Notice the dimension on top of the box shows 10', but when I dimensioned the bottom of the box it shows 480'. This seems to work at random.

The other screen shot shows the Dim Style settings I used.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Labeling In Paperspace - Dimensions Way Off

Jun 18, 2012

We do a lot of labeling in paper space and have been encountering a problem with our dimension command mislabeling lengths and widths.  Please see attached DWG.  The road width should be 24' and its labeling it 880'.  BUT measuring hoizontally it seemed to work fine.  Really strange.

I am using the dimension command and snapping nearest and perpendicular.  If I just click without using osnap it seems to work.

We tried using the DIM   /   DIMFLAC   /   V     /   and selectiong viewport

The funny thing is that I dont have this problem with every drawing.  Just some seem to have this glitch.

I have some serious fight this morning with AutoCAD. I have to dimension my drawings properly so it can be build. I did some already, a few aligned dimensions in an layout snapping on modelspace objects. when i put them all is fine and right dimensions.

BUT after i saved, closed the file and opened it again those dimensions are everywhere exept where i put them originally. And no the modelspace objects are not moved.

How can this be? can i solve this? or is this a know bug for AutoCAD 2012? i can't check all the dimensions before publisching again and again.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Dimensions In Viewport Out Of Sync

Aug 26, 2010

Why is it that some dimensions in a viewport are out of sync with the rest of the dimensions? Eg. a correct dimension is 240, but the next time you dimension the same distance, you get 24 as a dimension figure?

Also, in a long run of continued dimensions one or two of the dimensions is out of scale? I have tried making all dimension Annotative, same dimstyle, etc.

I think sometimes Autocad forgets that it is in a viewport, so some dimensions are correct to the viewport scale while others are to the limits of the paper size?
