After Effects :: How To Disperse / Scatter Type

I've read articles and viewed videos on how to use the scatter or shatter effect but it isn't quite what she is looking to accomplish.
 
Here is what she would like to accomplish:
 
There is one word (type) in the front and an object in the back (z-index below the type) that object will move forward to disperse the word/type but retain their shapes; meaning she does not want the type (the individual letters) to fall completely apart. She just wants to send them out in every direction.
