3ds Max Modeling :: Head Model With Sphere Ad / Face Techniques
Oct 31, 2011
I started my head model with a sphere ad I moved vertesis to shaped it, created lips and weld it onto the face, created two spheres that makes the eyes. I added a skin texture, the weldings of vertesis looks planar ang blocky thatn round and I cant seem to make it appear like a pro one. Its even hard to animate. I just wish I can overcome this, im stuck.

I've done a bit of photo retouching on faces before: removing skin blemishes, changing eye colour, etc. I've only ever made subtle changes though; I saw a before and after of a photo retouch job on a model that went into a magazine (can't find the link now) and the difference was staggering! Does any one know of a tutorial or reference guide that takes you through the techniques? I know it's a huge topic but I know my way round Photoshop and I'm keen to know the techniques rather than a step-by-step guide.

I am trying out Maya 2012 and when i select faces or vertices and try to move on individually, the whole model move. I don't need that, i just need to move the face or vertice alone not the whole image. Also is there any way to download tutorial and installing it into Maya 2012. where i am working with Maya 2012 don't have internet to browse right away.

The best that work out was giving it a path constrain to a sphere changing to a rectangle and making some snapshot which it does not give me the specific control I need.
See image to see what I am trying to model, image is from NADAA, and am trying to do something similar to this but I can't.

I'm modelling a character and I created the neck and now I want to connect it to the head but the problem is, he only allows me to weld some vertex, it's like he doesn't want both elements to share a edge or face, only vertex!(and yes, I attached the two elements).
when I want to create a face with those vertex he says: "illegal face" or something.

I'm working on a complex closed object shape originally made from a plane and want to do Boolean to it.
So when a plane get Boolean-ed with a sphere, it just turns to plane with a hole. Different when a standard box get Boolean-ed with a sphere, it turns into a box with a 1/2 sphere hole.
My question is, is it possible to turns a plane into solid 3D objects like box, sphere,etc..? So it's able to get Boolean-ed correctly?
I add a picture of simpler analogy
p.s. the box and the box-ed plane is an editable poly

I am modelling on an object which exists of a sphere with a lot of lightbulbs around it. I made asphere and 1 light surrounded by 6 lightbulbs. My intension is to make a perfect symmitrical sphere of lightbulbs.
I work with Autocad Mechanical 2012 (not for so long) and quit new into the world of CAD. I worked with the command array, and that worked fine, but I don't know how to repeat the cluster of 7 bulbs all over the sphere.

I'm using 3DS Max 2012 and am trying to get a cube to rotate around the rotation system of a sphere sitting near by so that the cube looks like it's orbiting the sphere. The problem is that when I go to the coordinates menu and click on Pick, I select the sphere, but the rotation gizmo is still around the cube.
Here's a screenshot to show you what I mean.
See how the sphere is where the coordinates are suppose to be, but they are still around the cube?
How do I make this get around the sphere?

I know there are many ways to model this but how would some of you go about it? Would you create a sphere then cut out a spline circle for the ports? Would you create a box then turbo smooth it out to a sphere?

We have an animal character mesh for the body and head together, there's not a good place to separate the head for blendshapes without showing an obvious seam.
Is there a way to just copy over the polygons for only the head to model into blendshapes? I don't want the entire mesh to copy over for blendshapes - I'm concerned that making so many blendshapes from the entire mesh would take up a lot of memory and resources.

I'm learning how to texture a tyre. I've applied the Unwrap UVW modifier to a torus. Then I've applied Flatten Mapping. After that I've manually rearranged the surfaces as can be seen in the below picture. Now the thing is, my teacher has asked me to apply Relax tool, especially Relax by Face angles. I can't figure it out how to use it.
I've read the Autodesk Document for this but its too technical. Also, how should my uvw mapping look in the end?

I'm sure I have accidently set some mode that does this, but when I select a face and do a move function, the entire object moves instead of just that 1 face.
The entire object turns yellow when selected, or yellow/red depending on the size/shape.

Is there a way to change the viewport to lookdown at a face? I am modeling some objects that it would benefit to be able to view from certain angles orthographically but the object isn't square so I can't easily align it to the front, top, side, etc. views.

As I recall, back in the 3ds dos days you could create a grid aligned to a face of an object by simply picking 3 vertices on the face. I've never figured out how to do this in MAX. I don't need to align objects but need to move vertices around on a given tilted face.

Is there a way to do this? After perusing some threads on creating edges from vertices, the "Create" tool under "Edit Geometry" doesn't seem to solve my issue. In Blender, you can create a face by selecting at least three vertices and pressing "F". Is there anything similar to that feature in 3DS Max?
I'm using the 2010 version.

I have a large object from which 3 small legs protrude out as in the 1st picture. The faces of each of these legs are at a slight angle in world coordinates.
I have a small cylinder which I want to snap to a face seen in picture 1. My problem is that I simply don't know how to snap the cylinder's side to the face. As you can see in picture 2, a part of the cylinder is in the object, the other part is outside of the object.
I know I could use the rotate tool, but I want perfect face alignment.
1) Is it possible?
2) How

I worked for some time with the free program blender to create my scenes and objects. Because I want to study the subject 'Technical Directing' I started learning how to work with Maya, the more "professional" software.
Although I read through the considered topic of the GettingStarted tutorial, I've still a question to you:
How can I create a face between already existing vertices? This would really improve my workflow.

I'm a beginner in Maya and have to model an object for college. I've modelled an iPhone 4 in Maya 2012 and I've added colour to it but i want to add an image to the screen face. I've added the image using lambert but the image is blown up and i don't know how to resize it. I've fiddled with the settings in '2d Texture Placement Attributes' but the only thing i've been able to do was rotate the image so it's not upside down, it's still blown up. Is there another editor window to resize it?
I've also tried using the UV Texture Editor but everything is a mess on top of eachother and everytime i move things around maya crashes . Is there any other way to add the image to the face?

possible to extrude a face from selecting all the vertices that make up the face. If you just extrude the vertices the effect is undesired. and when you select all the vertices, hold ctrl, and switch to face selection it selects all the adjacent faces, not just the ones that are actually formed by the selected vertices.
Basically I would like this To turn into this on Ctrl+4
I remember seeing some one do it in a older version of Max, I'm on 2011 right now, is it possible?

i am modeling a cello.... the forward edge of the body frame is a single face. in order to bevel it, i have to select all the edges... there are lots. for reasons that surpass understanding, MAYA does not recognize the edges of a 'corner' to be an edge loop. nor will it retain the selection with a selection mode change as some apps will (ie: select face, change to 'edge select' and have all the edges selected).
is there some simple way to select ALL the edges of a face?

is there a way i can offset a face which has rounded corners. i have managed to extrude a face and by altering the offset in the channel box editor i can offset a new face and delete that.
attached image is what i am aiming for, i basically would like to create a rounded hole in each face of a polygon object, a hole with rounded edges.
