3ds Max Animation :: Object Rotating Around An Axis
Aug 8, 2013I need to animate an object rotating around an axis, and moving away from the axis simultaneously.

View 1 RepliesI'm rigging a shoulder pad to a biped and I'd like it to only rotate on one axis. Google hasn't been that useful, and I hope I don't need scripting for this kind of minor thing. I'm rather new to 3Ds Max Design but I'm learning fast and liking it so far!
I've attached what I want to effectively accomplish. I'm looking for a way to lock the z-axis of the object with the upper arm's z-axis.
EDIT: Reduced picture size.
I wanted to know how to rotate an object on a free axis (a line that I create - by two points).
In the image i pointed out the line/axis...
Is it possible to rotate an object along the Y axis as opposed to just rotating in a 2D circle? I know it is possible to simulate 3D rotation, but that takes some tricky maneuvering in some cases. I was wondering if it isn't just a case of holding down a combination of Cntrl & Alt or Shift and dragging a selection point.
I have seen a video where a graphic is created - video is in high speed to show the various steps involved in creating the artwork and there is a section where it looks like the artist/designer rotates a rectangle so that the top left corner appears to be moving "out" of the screen and the right corner towards the "back" of the screen. It doesn't appear to be just a skewing of the object, but in fact it looks like it's in 3D.
I want to know after rigging why should i orient joint in the attribute editor using the channel "joint orientation". Because i can easily fix the rotational axis after rotating the bone and freezing transformation.

I have made a nurbs curve object which I intend to use as a controller in my rig, I have however modeled my character with his arms in a 45 degree angle so I snapped this particular object to the wrist and aligned it with the geometry...here comes the fun part , because it is a controller I wanted to have a clean channelbox zo I froze transformations which neatly sets every channel to 0, it also snaps the local axis to a world pivot orientation....
I went in componentmode pressed the question mark thingy and thought it was working..but it still alters the values in the channelbox.
I basically want the same rotation axes editing capabilities as I have with joints, I will try fiddling with that next, but I can't believe that this can't be solved any simpler.
See the image in the attachment
I frequently rotate my drawings around the Z axis however when trying to do this in 2013 it only appears to let me rotate at 0,0,0 rather than clicking on 2 points in the drawing to reference the angle at which I wish to rotate to........ Im not sure if this function has changed completely or is there something I need to set to still allow me to do this?

I'm coming from Rhino 3d, where this is possible by holding the shift key.

Is it possible to automatically project the x-axis, z-axis or z-axis onto the sketch plane?
I.e. every time you open a new sketch the corresponding lateral and vertical axis will be projected onto the sketch.
I have a video that I need to set in the background of my animation but it needs to be turned 90 degrees. Right now its is side ways. Is there a way to do that within max 20111? I currently have in my environment map and Effect menu common parameter tab my movie. I then have an instance of it in my materials area. Within materials area I can change my W: Angle to rotate that diffuse map where my video is listed and it rotates with materials menue but just not in my animation background. Can I rotate the video that is in the background of my animation?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do something very simple in PS CS6 that's proving to be, well, not so simple (for me at least). All I want to do is animate a layer in a clockwise direction and end up with a seamless looping animated gif. I discovered rotation can't even be animated unless you convert the layer to a smart object, first of all (and by accident. And the "Motion" function doesn't seem to work much at all, where there is a "Rotate" option.).
And of course simply copy-pasting the first key frame in the timeline to the end of the timeline just makes the layer rotate clockwise, then counter clockwise back to it's original position.
how to make a rotating animation (rotate an image) with image ready. I have tried to rotate the new second frame but this also results in a rotation of the first frame and visa versa.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to animate a 6-axis robot in Inventor 2012 Pro, which moves to about 10 different locations. I'm using parameters to drive the constraints to position the wrist, and I have several different positional representations with unsuppressed / modified constraints. When I try to animate between the positional reps in IV Studio, the parts just snap into place instead of interpolating between each location. Also, I have to manually enter the timing for each step, instead of just entering the max angular velocity of each joint.
Would it be easier to create the animation in dynamic simulation using a spatial joint at the wrist? I'd like for the positions to still be modifiable through the parameters.
i am a 3ds max user but had to switch to maya for this project. I am trying to make the ctrl pivot axis to follow the bone axis but I dont know how to do it in Maya.

I've got everything modeled but don't understand how to constrain and establish the motion relationships - IK chains, rigging and such. See attached image for my needs. I believe I have the rotation pivot points established.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere's a great bog eyeball, which, as most eyeballs, is not perfectly spherical, and has a bug bump where the cornea juts out over the iris area. The eye is open, with eyelids above and below the iris, the upper covering the top of the iris somewhat. As the eyeball rotates, it should deform the eyelid, esp. the upper eyelid. What's the next way to make eyelids conform to the eyeball as it rotates, we can use cloth if necessary, but if there's an easier way, with constraints, lattices, etc. Like if there's a lattice on the eyelid whose control points get pushed away by the front of the eye, then fall back as it rotates away, or something..

I've never looked into batch processing with GIMP, but I would be willing to. This is for a video game sprite.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm rigging a vehicle that doesn't quite behave like a typical train or truck trailer. And I have a question for the coupling. The rotations I want are best illustrated in the attached photo. I want to have a single axis (Y-axis) rotate where the coupling joins the cab and the trailer, and in the center of the coupling, I want to be able to rotate along the X and Z axes, but not the Y. Does that make sense?
A flexible sheathe will cover the actual coupling, so I've been using bones to try to do this which the sheathe will be skinned with. I just haven't created a rig that actually bends the way I want it to yet.
I've created a mech robot and now I want to create a rig for it. But the problem is, that none of the joints are 'ball and socket joints'. So the joints can only rotate in one dimension, like a typical mechanical joint. My first solution was simply locking two out of three rotation axis for the bones and this works fine for FK animation. For IK animation however, it doesn't work. The locks are simply ignored. Is there any way to lock a rotation axis for an IK bone system?
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason some of the joints in my character rig are displaying their local rotation axis and I am unable to turn them off. The usual Display>Transform Display>Local Rotation Axis doesn't do it. This doesn't apply to all joints, just some. This is very frustrating as it causes real clutter when rigging.

I have several series of images like the one attached which represents a card with some holes in it flat (if you like) on the desktop. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am making a cart that whenever you move it, it should rotate the wheels automatic. I did this using expressions. At this moment I have a code what makes the wheels spin when the cart is moved on the Z-Axel but now I want to have it work on the X-Axel as well so the cart can make turns.
This is the code I'm using on the wheels: frontwheels.rotateX = cart.translateZ*40;
I am fairly new at animation. If I want to simply create an animation of an assembly just simply rotating in 3D space which I then can import in Showcase for a presentation, how would I do this in Inventor?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo perhaps I'm missing something blindingly obvious, but in previous versions of Maya, I've been able to simply hit F8 and check the '?' icon to be able to go in and individually rotate Local Rotation Axis to be the way I want.
For some reason I cannot find how to do this now in 2011? I've only been able to do them using the auto-tool.
Looking for the steps I need to take to be able to manipulate the local rotation axis individually as I have in the past now?
