I would be unable to use the Paint Brush tool to pain on a layer? When I try to paint it says the layer needs to be rasterized first. But even when I click ok and start to paint it's not painting black which is the color I set the brush to paint. It's more like it's erasing but not quite.
The layer doesn't have a mask or anything.
Today i opened a psd file which 200 layers. Paint.net is very slow then (as all layers are flatten, pdn is missing hierarchical layers), but that is another problem.
I wanted to hide some background layers and "copy merged" a selection.
It took me 10mn to find all the backgrounds layers without this tool.
In photoshop the tool exist as a property of the "move selection" tool. Ie: you must first select the move selection tool, then select "layer" in the properties toolbar.
Any way to get that for v4 ? Will v4 be on github so we can clone and make patches ?
I'm new to Paint shop. Is it possible to clip an adjustment layer or image to just the layer below it like in Photoshop? Or maybe Paint shop calls it something else?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI would like to make a composite image with source images making up the various layers (so I can work my magic on each layer indepent of the others). The problem I have is that not all of the images I'm using are to the right scale. What I want to do is resize those layers that are too big. Here's an example...
Let's say I have 5 pictures that I want to use to make one composite image from. The main background layer will be made from an image that is, say 800x600.
Another picture (let's call this subject 1) is 600x600 and is already at the right scale if I cut out the portion I want to keep and lay it on top of the background layer.
Yet another picture (subject 2) is huge (think 2000x2000). I would like to cut out the portion I would like to use and drop it in as a new layer and then obviously re-size it down to the correct scale. I'd prefer to do this directly in the composite image I'm making on its own layer to ensure I get the size right (and without manipulating the image guess-work style before I cut/paste it in).And so on...
I've found ways to make the canvas bigger (not what I want to do)... but not anything on how to resize the images on individual layers without impacting the other layers. Is there a way to do this?
Cloning from layer to layer continues to be a problem in PP X6. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not work. Yes. I know what is happening but I don't like it. I can get around it but I still don't like it. How about in X7, the clone tool include a source and target dialog for the clone tool
View 2 Replies View RelatedOK I am stuck. I have created a new image. Created a new trasnparent layer and deleted the background. I pasted an exising PNG (with transparency) into the layer. All my tools do not work. I can paint onto the exsiting image but when I try to paint over transparent parts of the layer nothing is shown. There must be some simple setting I dont know about right?

White paint will not restore the layer or modify the mask at all. The black paint works as usual to hide the layer, but how do I restore an area in a layer mask if not painting white?

But then it was not allowing me to directly edit the layers. I cannot draw, paint, erase, smooth, etc. I can draw shapes and select and delete material, but have no independent control with the tools.
I installed the plugin enabling me to open psd files, and have been working on a psd file that was created in photoshop. I've been able to make various changes, but I can't see how to edit a text layer?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA problem has developed in my photoshop CS 6 64 bit on windows 7. I can't paint at full opacity in a layer mask. It is like an 75 % opacity brush. I have gone back to the default brushes soit is not the particular bursh. My brush settings are all at 100%, mask density is 100% , the blend mode is normal,-can't think of where else to look for the solution.The brush works just fine when I am not in a layer mask.I updated the graphic card driver and also the wacom intuos driver. It has to be somewhere in photoshop CS6 as when I go into my older version photoshop, cs5, the mask opacity works works at 100 % opacity.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have my blending mode set to 'NORMAL". When I paint in black on a layer mask it creates a transparent effect (not hide the image/pattern).
Since the upgrade this has affected both my pc and laptop versions. I've read through the forums and see a lot of folks having issues with the blending mode set inccorrectly but this seems different.
When i am using layer masks in elements 9 I can conceal paint with a black brush, but when I want to go back over something to reveal (white brush) nothing happens. I have the layer mask selected as active and it works perfectly fine in reverse (black).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can make just about everything work i'm using v3.36 because i thought my computer would not work well with a newer version i can import a image that i use the eraser on, and save it as a .png that all works fine.
But when i try to add a layer i see the image on top then when i hit f7 i get the vertical line up, but i get two layers in the vertical one has the background the other just has the eraser markings and nothing else, when i try to merge nothing happens. I'm using xp with sp2

I'm building an e-book cover.I sized the canvas to the size of my cover.After creating a new layer, I assumed I could put my text in that layer (My book title, author, etc.), and then on another layer put my graphics/photos and later merge them all together once the placement/sizing was right.Once I add a new layer, the text tool appears to be writting, but it's writing in a transpent font from what I can tell. if I go back to the original canvas, the text tool is working and I can change the color/font size/style, etc as expected.

I know I have to get the new BG on an active layer. Then, do I copy the FG (Foreground) image and paste somewhere. IOW how to merge the two? Must they be same size etc?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded and briefly messed around with Paint.Net, and while you can work with layers, I haven't found a way to use layer masks. I used to exclusively use GIMP, but then I found out about Adobe Lightroom, so I bought that and have been extremely happy with it. However, I can't do any pixel editing to get rid of any phone lines, or people's heads, or any other item that is goofing up my photo. I didn't want to go back to GIMP (it's not the easiest program to use), but then I found out about Paint.Net and that it uses layers.
I assumed that it would also have the option to use layer masks, as a natural extension or feature of having layers. But again I can't figure out, or have found online, a way to create layer masks.
Whenever I try to use layer properties it doesn't do anything.

In other paint programs, this would just add generated noise pixels to the currently selected layer, but in Paint.NET it appears like it's using the source pixels as input for the noise effect. While visually this effect is pretty on existing image, it doesn't work on transparent layers. Is there a way to just add regular noise to my transparent layer? What I'm just trying to achieve is generate a television static effect, but have those pixels that were left untouched by the noise effect remain transparent. I need the transparency for use outside of Paint.NET. Is there a way to do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to paint on a layer in an additive way. i.e. I set a color like (10,0,0) and if I hold down or repaint an area, it gets brighter and brighter. I want to create a texture map for a 3D model, which encodes how thick the material is based on the red channel.
But I can't seem to get this to work. I tried using (255,0,0,10) i.e. red with very low alpha and that sort of works, in that it looks right on screen, but it's not outputting as I expect/desire when I save to a flat file like PNG/JPG.
currently I'm working on a picture that consists of many other pictures and their layers. Now, if I want to cut edges of pictures with the same angle, it would be great to see the angle in the lasso mode. Sometimes this can also be handy when selecting rects.
edit: How can I move more than 1 layer at the same time?
edit: When saving/reopeneing the project, the pictures in the layers loose their original pixels, so I cannot resize them to their original width/height wihtout losing quality. What can I do about that? I.e. I think a picture needs to be bigger I have to delete it and reimport it?
I added a layer, then theres no way to add any picture in new layer. If I import from file, it makes a new background .layer. But I want to make a new layer as forground and insert picture in it.
