Paint.NET :: Always Paste To New Layer?
May 26, 2011I was wondering if there is a way to always paste to a new layer?

View 2 RepliesI've been using PSP since 7.
Now I'm using x4 and I noticed that when I cut/copy a portion of a pic and then paste it as a new image....then I want to copy and paste that portion back into the original photo using paste as new layer....the icon doesn't change automatically from the lasso/cut tool to the move tool.
It used to do that automatically in psp 7 so that right after I paste as new layer, i can move that portion around right away.
In x4, after you paste as new layer, you can't move that layer around because it hasn't changed automatically to the move tool. I have to manually click on the move tool everytime I want to move the layer around. It's very irritating!
Any settings I can change to make it automatically change to "move tool" right after pasting a pic as new layer?
When I Select All/Copy a photo to Paste as New Layer on top of another photo, it always pastes as a humongous image. I have to scroll & scroll & scroll down to find grab handles, then fiddle & fiddle resizing the image to the same size as the underlying photo. I take the photos with the same camera. Seems to me the photos ought to be the same size!

layer 1. background
layer 2. A transparent vector layer with text
I have a second image, the same exact size and resolution as the first two layer image. I would like to paste layer 2 from the first image, into the same exact position on image 2. Every time I paste. it centers the text, whether it is just a ctrl-v, or a paste layer. I've even tried promoting the layer 2 in the first image then pasting as new layer into image two, with no luck. Everything I've done pastes layer 2 from image one, into the center of image 2.
I have PSP Photo X2
I'm trying to copy a portion of a graphic and put it on another layer while keeping it's exact location as to how I view it am I understanded?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using ACAD 2005 and am trying to copy&paste several objects from a layer I created in one .dxf file to one of the 2 standard layers (0 or Defpoints) in a new blank .dxf file.
My problem though is that if I copy and paste all of the objects (or even one of them) and them move to the new file and paste, it pastes the objects, but also "imports" into the new file the original file's layer that these objects were on.
For clarity, the new file only has the 2 standard layers and then after copy/pasting an object, the file manager shows the 3rd layer from the original file.
Is there a way to cut pixels from one layer and paste them to a selected layer (as opposed to pasting the pixels to a new layer which is created by PhotoShop)?
Also, is there an easy way to make sure that the pasted pixels remain in their original position with respect to the overall canvas? I'm simply trying to move pixels from one layer to another layer while maintaining the position of the original pixels.
I was trying to paste an alpha layer from one psd to another. For some reason, I can't paste into the alpha channel of one specific psd. I can't even drag it from one psd to the other. It works fine on another psd I have.
View 2 Replies View Relatedeverytime I copy nd paste, it always adds to a new layer. This can be annoying because the new layer lacks the blending effects. Ive got situations where I have tried to copy and paste a section which has been floating as a layer with effects on, and it pastes down onto a new layer looking completely different due to no effects.
Is there a way to paste back onto the same layer. Or even better, a way to disable adding a new layer each time I wanna do a new action. It is alright sometimes, but layers can get a bit crazy when I have one for each line.
I've come to GIMP from PS.
So, in PS if you make a selection and past it into a new layer it ends up in exactly the same position, however if I do the same on GIMP the selection is pasted at the top left hand corner. Then it's a major pain moving it to exactly the same place as the original
Most of my workflow is doing this sort of thing so it's real problem now.
In previous GIMP versions, I was able to assign a keyboard shortcut to "paste as new layer", but I don't see that in the list of keyboard shortcuts available in 2.8. Is that option really gone? Is there some way to open it up again? My workflow is seriously shredded without that shortcut.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Photoshop 14.1.1 on a Mac with OS 10.8.4.
When I have a string of text in the clipboard and try to paste it as a suffix to a layer name, the paste command is not working at all. It works on CS6, though.
Whenever I try to paste into my layer mask, the pasted image loses its color and turns gray. How can I keep the color when pasting?
Both files are RGB mode. I can paste the image into the image (but not the mask) and it will maintain its color.
I do a lot of texture work and create depth by using several layers and different blending modes. I wind up masking and remasking the same thing on multiple layers -- is there a way to copy the mask on one layer and paste it onto another? I know I can drag a mask to a different layer, but that removes the first one.

I'm a relative noob to GIMP. Long time Paint Shop Pro user who has gone over to a Mac Book. I'm very frustrated by my inability to paste more than one layer at a time. Meaning, that I paste a layer from the clipboard into an image I am building, but I cant copy a new image to paste in without shutting down the program & reopening....Otherwise the same image keeps trying to repaste.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to copy some objects from one drawing to another. However, in the source drawing the objects are on one layer, but I want them on another layer in the target drawing. I know pasting the objects as a block fixes the problem, but as soon as I explode them they're back on their original layer - and I have to select them all and move them to the preferred layer - which can be tedious with multiple objects.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am testing the trial version of Photoshop CS5.5 and I am experiencing a weird issue while using the marquee tool while selecting a portion of an image, cutting that section and pasting it to a new layer.
First off I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, 2.8Ghz Dual Core Processor, 4 Gigs Memory, 2 Gig Video card and current on updates with a fresh vanilla install of CS5.5. Not filters or plugin installed.
Step by step of issue is as follows,
I take an image on layer 1 and while using the marquee tool select and area on that image. I want to cut and Past In Place that selection on a new layer, layer 3.
This will allow me to insert another layer, layer 2, in between layer 1 and layer 3 and show what ever I place on layer 2 but still have a complete background if the image does not fill the entire transparent section.
A good example is a wanted poster. You have your picture frame with the Wanted letters and reward. In the center you have a transparent square. In the back you have a black background. In between the frame and the background you place a face. The face will not fill the entire square so you will see some of the black back ground.
Now the problem appears to be that the dotted line of the marquee selection makes so you can see your selection stays transparent or deletes the ares directly enter it when you cut and past to a new layer. The transparent outline looks to be the same size of the dotted line when that selection is selected. I have looked and searched for this preamble and resolution but can not see one.
The picture below is the result after I deselect the area. You can see just above another section that I tried to cover up but did not get it all. If I try and stretch the section, it skews the contents out of proportion.

Im just trying to select a portion of an image and the paste it to another layer.
1. Select a portion and copy.
2. Create new layer.
3. Select the new layer.
4. Paste.
The only thing i get is a kind of new layer that says: "Floating selection"
I've just started using PS Elements 10 again after not having used it for some time, and I've forgotten a few things. When I paste an image which I've selected from another image (image A) into a layer mask for image B, the image A selection appears in black and white. Also, is there a quick way to return PS Elements 10 to its default settings?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a script that measures the repeat interval and gap between print impressions printed using a print cylinder (for the production team to know which print cylinders to use, and what to expect once it prints, when looking at the proof sheet). Basically it just measures the distance from the beginning of one print impression to the beginning of the next (these are printed with a cylinder, so every time the cylinder rotates a new print impression happens) as well as the distance in between prints. That part works great.
In order to get these meaurements, Illustrator is measuring the distance from a zero point on the artboard to the left side of a marker I made called "repeat", and it is assigned a variable called rawRepeat. What I'd like to do is have the script take that rawRepeat value and use it to move a copy of the print impression to the right by exactly that variable amount and paste it beneath the marker called "repeat". I have been doing this part manually, but haven't been able to figure out how to get illustrator to do this for me.
Here's the script I am using:
var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
var selectedObject = myDocument.selection;
var activeLayer = app.activeDocument.activeLayer;
var layerName = activeLayer.name;
activeLayer.name = "plate";
[Code] .....
I created my first project that consists of 4 layers and saved it! However, when I tried to paste it into a Word doc only the background layer (a photo) shows up without the other 3 layers containing writing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI literally downloaded this program today, but I like it so far. However, I'm currently attempting a small new project and it seems I've hit a wall.What I'm trying to do is take a picture of a silhouette, remove the white background, and somehow change the black silhouette into a plaid pattern so I can paste it on top of a new background of my choosing. I've already figured out a satisfactory method for removing the background by perusing the forums here, but I've yet to come across a topic to solve my current issue.

How can I select all objects in a layer and copy and paste the objects into a new document? We are having issues with the copy and paste method. Is this because it uses the operating systems clipboard?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhy is it necessary to have an image open before using the "Paste as New Image" function.
I want to be able to copy an image from another program and paste in into PSP for editing. I can only do this if I first open a new or existing image in PSP before doing "Paste as a New Image".
I have just upgraded to PSPX4 from X2, but have been using PSP since it was a JASC product. So far I am not very impressed with the new version. My first stumbling block was when I couldn't increase the canvas size on a photo that I'm restoring (9120w x 13298h). A chat session with Corel identified the issue as being a 10000 pixel limitation now being imposed. Although I can work with images >10000, I can't increase any dimension past this figure. Who had that brainwave? I had to put my image into PSPX2, increase the canvase size and then load it back into PSPX4 to continue.
Now today, another issue pops up. I can't seem to find other hits on pasting selections within the forum though, so I am raising this.
I loaded two tif images into my Edit workspace. One image is fairly small and I copied this, switched to the larger image and tried a 'paste as new selection'. This worked OK. The I switched to a paintbrush and made a small change to the main image. I then tried pasting the copied image again with 'paste as new selection'. This time the program locked up with Windows trying to find a resolution. PSPX4 then crashed. I have tried various scenario's to narrow the cause down. So far it seems that I can paste a new selection as many times as I want, but as soon as I use a paintbrush to effect even a small change PSPX4 locks up. It either then crashes, as explained earlier, or I get the round no operation mouse cursor displayed. At this point the main control box buttons (close, minimize etc.) won't respond, neither can I switch to the Manage or Adjust areas. The menu trees respond, but selecting File/Exit doesn't work. I have to use Task Manager to close the program.
I had installed SP1, but trying to identify the cause of this issue I uninstalled X4 and reinstalled the base version from CD (332). All settings were left to default. This is how I am running now, so it looks as if SP1 makes no difference. I have also tried using jpg instead of tif, but this also makes no difference. At the moment I'm thinking of ditching X4 and going back to X2.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with 8Gb RAM.
