GIMP :: Paste A Layer From Clipboard Into Image
Nov 20, 2013
I'm a relative noob to GIMP. Long time Paint Shop Pro user who has gone over to a Mac Book. I'm very frustrated by my inability to paste more than one layer at a time. Meaning, that I paste a layer from the clipboard into an image I am building, but I cant copy a new image to paste in without shutting down the program & reopening....Otherwise the same image keeps trying to repaste.

I just got Gimp 2.8 for Mac. I can open a picture, do a blur and export. The copy paste is giving me problems. It worked once. I make a selection with the rectangle and do a control c. I also tried the menu. The selection doesn't go to the clipboard. After 6 tries, the same original copy was the only one in there.

I'm trying to write a script to batch process a number of files. I want the script to open file a*.png, convert black color to alpha and paste image b*.png on top of a*.png (both are the same size). The script converts black to alpha, but it doesn't paste image.
(define (batch-alpha-paste pattern pattern2);get the file lists (let* ((filelist (cadr (file-glob pattern 1)))(filelist2 (cadr (file-glob pattern2 1)))) (while (not (null? filelist))(let* ((file-name (car filelist))(filename2 (car filelist2)) (image2 (car (gimp-file-load RUN-NONINTERACTIVE filename2 filename2))) (draw2 (car (gimp-image-get-active-layer image 2)))(image (car (gimp-file-load RUN-NONINTERACTIVE filename filename)))(drawable (car (gimp-image-get-active-layer image)))) ; convert black to alpha(plug-in-colortoalpha RUN-NONINTERACTIVE image drawable '(0 0 0))
[code]....
I call the script from shell:gimp -i -b '(batch-alpha-paste "aa*.png" "bb*.png")' -b '(gimp-quit 0)'
how to copy image 2 into image ?

I know from previous versions of GIMP it was possible to use the dimensions of the clipbaord data for a new image. I dont know which version this was, but I miss this behaviour. I couldnt figure out where to set it (if still possible).
So if i had made a selection of 123x456 pixels, copy selection, file -> new, then image dimensions were already set to 123x456 in the "new image" properties dialog,.

I'm thinking about some new feature which I'd love to see in GIMP but can'tadd it myself. Maybe there's a way to achieve it.
To the point. I'd love to be able to create new image from clipboard from acommand line. There is such function so I guess it wouldn't be a problem toadd it. Having this one could make a shortcut (e.g. in Unity's launcher RMBmenu). It's useful when some app (e.g. screenshot taking) puts image inclipboard and you want to quickly edit it.

I have had this problem many times with both CS6 and CS5. I'm not sure if this is a Photoshop question or a Windows OS 8 question but anyways it seems to only happen with Photoshop.
I copy an image offline to edit in photoshop. After I'm finished I save it and delete the image layer from the workspace to get ready for the next image. I grab another image that I want to paste in the same photshop workspace. When I paste, it pastes the same image I copied first. It even does this when I restart Photoshop, so that's why I think it may have to do with Windows Clipboard.
I'm also really interested in details about how 'Copy/Paste" and the "Clipboard" work with different programs so I can best understand how to utilize it with what seems to be a simple tool, yet I still find myslef with questions because I don't filly undertsnad it.

I copied a file from my Card Program and then pasted it into X4. Besides the quality being shocking the end section of the image was pasted at the beginning, which I saw mentioned in another post.
But the same clipboard image pasted perfectly in PSPX and PSPX3, so the problem is not with the image nor with the Card Program.
Below is the image shown pasted in X, X3 and X4.
Has this been addressed and/or reported or is there a fix. This is extremely poor standards and obviously is from incorrect programming in X4. Not impressed.
Plainly clear one cannot have only X4 installed to work with as it still has many bugs that have not been rectified.

When using the Clipboard to move entities from one drawing to another I need to open the window Tools; Options; and that's it for the Paste as Block and Paste Options to be available. What I mean is do I need to do this with each new session of LT? That I will need to check out. I tried my Template and it allowed Paste without going to the Options Dialog in the same session.
Object selection limit for display of grips is set to 32,000

I've come to GIMP from PS.
So, in PS if you make a selection and past it into a new layer it ends up in exactly the same position, however if I do the same on GIMP the selection is pasted at the top left hand corner. Then it's a major pain moving it to exactly the same place as the original
Most of my workflow is doing this sort of thing so it's real problem now.

In previous GIMP versions, I was able to assign a keyboard shortcut to "paste as new layer", but I don't see that in the list of keyboard shortcuts available in 2.8. Is that option really gone? Is there some way to open it up again? My workflow is seriously shredded without that shortcut.

Recently I started using AutoCAD 2012 and I ran into one problem which I didn't encounter before.
The problem is that when I try to paste objects from another drawing (through clipboard - usually another instance of AutoCAD) I can't paste them in some drawings only.
The following things happen:
-Autocad behaves normally like when I usually paste objects except there is nothing inserted.
-When I save the drawing after unsuccessful insert, even if I canceled inserting, drawing size increases dramatically (for about 2-4MB).
-If I open new drawing, I can insert objects there.
-Also when I copy to clipboard, autocad takes a lot of time even if it is only few lines.
I tried these thing to fix issue:
-I checked if there are any layers turned off.
-I tried to copy with COPYBASE
-I restarted autocad (sometimes it works but only for some moments or for one insert).
-I did PURGE and AUDIT
-I tried to copy paste in same instance of AutoCAD but that didn't work.
I'm usually using t least 2 instances of AutoCAD (I hope that is not the problem).

I am having an issue while trying to copy/paste via clipboard. I copy (with or without basepoint) on one drawing then try to paste to another drawing using ctrl v. the first two times, the object pastes. On the third attempt my cursor looks like it is trying to paste something and if I move near an object on the drawing it snaps to points, but no object pastes. After doing so I check my layer manager and the layers involved with this action do paste. After a few attempts with no luck, a weird object I have never seen before appears.
I have tried to purge and audit as well as copying the whole drawing to a new drawing but have had no luck.
Side note, after ctrl v is pressed (or ctrl shift v) the command line says something about duplication of some block name ignored.

I've just installed CorelDraw X6 onto a W7 PC. Pasting bitmaps from clipboard is not working. Nor is bitmap editing when a bitmap has been imported into a document. I've loaded X6 onto two other computers with the same result (or lack of).

You can copy both the surface and the original (in this case contour polylines) data or only the surface. In both cases paste operation results into a copy of both data and surface.
Ok, But when paste and rebuild, the distance from original base point and destination point is applied in turn to the surface itself. Maybe it is a BUG ?

You'd think that being able to copy and paste would be a fairly straightforward task in any piece of software. Not in AutoCAD 2013. The Help file says the commands are located on the 'Clipboard' panel, under the 'Home' tab. I've spent a lot of time searching and can't find them, nor can I find any information about how to turn such a panel on.
This is the sort of thing that shouldn't be a problem in a well-designed piece of software. We're finding AutoCAD 2013 to be almost unusable out of the box, and have to spend ages fiddling with the (clunky) Custom User Interface commands to make it work. Every time AutoDesk bring out a new version of AutoCAD it seems to get even worse. I could resort to keyboard commands, but shouldn't have to. I'm starting to think the best solution would be to invest in a copy of Vectorworks instead.

i was wondering if it would be possible to get a plugin or maybe there's a way to do this that would 'blend' the border of one image that you paste on top of another, larger image. so that the borders wont contrast - like a black dot on a white page.
if that description doesn't make sense, imagine using such a tool on a a black dot on a white page. it would make the outer part of the circle transition from black, to dark grey, to a lighter grey, and then to white...

I want to cut the right half of one image and paste it in exactly the same position on a second image.
I've found that by cropping I can get a very precise cut but I want to know if there is a way to paste it or move it once pasted to exactly the right half of the image I am pasting it into.

When I Select All/Copy a photo to Paste as New Layer on top of another photo, it always pastes as a humongous image. I have to scroll & scroll & scroll down to find grab handles, then fiddle & fiddle resizing the image to the same size as the underlying photo. I take the photos with the same camera. Seems to me the photos ought to be the same size!

I've just started using PS Elements 10 again after not having used it for some time, and I've forgotten a few things. When I paste an image which I've selected from another image (image A) into a layer mask for image B, the image A selection appears in black and white. Also, is there a quick way to return PS Elements 10 to its default settings?

What is the best way to paste an image into a background and have it blend nicely with the background to avoid jaggies.
I've been playing with the blur and smudge icon but then it depends on my eye and I lose resolution around the edges. I guess what I would want ideally is for a way to paste my image then have a slider or a way to select the amount of anti aliasing from image to background.

Whenever I paste an image from the internet into Gimp, the image is shifted 3 pixels to the right, and those three pixel columns wrap around to the left side. At the bottom of those three now leftmost columns are a red, green, and blue pixel.
What the bottom left corner looks like:
This only started recently and I can't think of anything I changed recently to trigger it.

If I take an image, and using the path tool, draw an area, then do a selection from path, cut/copy and paste as 'new image' then save the new image as a .bmp, .jpg etc, I am getting the whole original image instead of the cut an pasted portion. The full image does not show up as long as the drawing remains in .xcf (the background is a grey checkerboard). When saved as .jpg or .bmp the checkerboard is replaced by the original source image that it was cut from. This is Gimp 2.6.11 under Linux.
I have checked for extra layers, tried removing alpha channels, doing a 'copy visible' and re-pasting, merging of all layers all to no avail. It doesn't always happen either so there must be something, some setting or clicky box somewhere.

So I am trying to work with a web page template in dreamweaver. I am attempting to open the background image in this template with gimp, then paste over top of the Original image with a new image. Every time I paste the new image in it takes the color style of the original.
I.E. The original image is in shades of brown while the new image is in many different colors. Whenever I paste the new image (the image with many colors) it changes to shades of brown like the original image.
The same thing happens if I open the new image as a new layer or just simply copy and paste the new image in.
How do I bring the new image in without it changing colors?

Ive built a website to sell makeup and cosmetics and am currently in the process of photographing every item to get the products on the site.
I take the pics on a white card background, in GIMP I need to basically 'cut out' the product and copy and paste it on to a blank white template. By using a template all my pics should be the same size once uploaded on to my site.
