Photoshop :: Paste Not Work When Editing Layer Name?
Sep 12, 2013
I'm using Photoshop 14.1.1 on a Mac with OS 10.8.4.
When I have a string of text in the clipboard and try to paste it as a suffix to a layer name, the paste command is not working at all. It works on CS6, though.
I keep finding that when I copy something in one Photoshop document, then go to another Photoshop document and hit CMD V to paste and nothing happens. So I hit CMD V again and it pastes. This happens all the time. Why doesn't it paste the first time?
I was creating Jpeg images in Photoshop for eBay listings by opening my photo file, cutting out the image and pasting it to a new white canvas in the size I wanted. Now, suddenly when I try to do the cut and paste, all I get is a blank canvas with no image pasted into it.
Is there a way to cut pixels from one layer and paste them to a selected layer (as opposed to pasting the pixels to a new layer which is created by PhotoShop)?
Also, is there an easy way to make sure that the pasted pixels remain in their original position with respect to the overall canvas? I'm simply trying to move pixels from one layer to another layer while maintaining the position of the original pixels.
I was trying to paste an alpha layer from one psd to another. For some reason, I can't paste into the alpha channel of one specific psd. I can't even drag it from one psd to the other. It works fine on another psd I have.
everytime I copy nd paste, it always adds to a new layer. This can be annoying because the new layer lacks the blending effects. Ive got situations where I have tried to copy and paste a section which has been floating as a layer with effects on, and it pastes down onto a new layer looking completely different due to no effects.
Is there a way to paste back onto the same layer. Or even better, a way to disable adding a new layer each time I wanna do a new action. It is alright sometimes, but layers can get a bit crazy when I have one for each line.
list all known reasons for pasting and inserting geometry to the DWG might fail.
1) Block that was not created by Autocad application was inserted to the drawing.E.g. the guy who does installation network sent you the file, and you happily inserted his work to your DWG.Bummer, copy paste stopped working.
SOLUTION: Weed out all of his blocks see Block removal thread. Design center might be of use (ADCENTER).
PREVENTION: Before inserting any outside work to your drawing do open it in Autocad and do EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command, than -PURGE /r, -PURGE /a, audit SAVE, CLOSE, RECOVER, SAVE. After that you can use the data more safely and insert to your drawing.
Do check block and attribute names and change to your needs. Try not to have same names if the actual block or attribute is really not the same.Check all the layer names, styles and line types too so you do not inherit what you do not need.
I do a lot of texture work and create depth by using several layers and different blending modes. I wind up masking and remasking the same thing on multiple layers -- is there a way to copy the mask on one layer and paste it onto another? I know I can drag a mask to a different layer, but that removes the first one.
When I use copy or copy with base point and paste or paste to original coordinates in another drawing, nothing is being copied.
I use autocad 2013
The isuue is dwg related. It only happens when i paste to some of my dwg (usualy the most important ones...). All the drawing files that are affected are in 2013 format, but if i save them to older version the problem persist.
I ve tried -purge r, purge a, audit, save -wblock explode, purge a, audit, save to no avail.
Tried many other solutions sa well, but nothing worked. What on earth could be wrong with DWG to prevent pasting from another drawing? Those drawings have been saved to lower formats before.
I'm attempting to copy paste a block and a line from one tab to another in the same drawing and it doesnt appear. I get
Command: _pasteclip Duplicate definition of block _Oblique ignored. Duplicate definition of block _ArchTick ignored. Duplicate definition of block attr_FFL ignored.
i've purged, i've audited, i've even created a new drawing and transfered the information but im still getting this problem. The strange thing is occasionally it works.also, i purge so the drawing it is clean, then i try to paste, then when purging again 1000's of blocks appear in the purge diologue box. A49285 to A55404 & a block called A$C4E2C21A4
I've got a user that when he clicks on an item to highlight it, he can't drag it anywhere, can't copy and paste it, and can't delete it. I've uninstalled and resinstalled the application more than once. After an uninstall, I went through all directories and deleted all remaining files and folders that had either Autodesk or AutoCAD in the name and spent 1 1/2 hrs sifting through the registry and eliminating all Autodesk and AutoCAD entries. I then reinstalled the application (AutoCAD 2010), and the user is still having the same issues.
I tried to copy some mtext from a different Paperspace and pasted into new drawing (on paperspace) but no text appear while all the layers are turned on. Below pic ask for specific inserting point, i just specified on the screen but won't work. I opened new blank autocad drawing and tried to paste on paper space now it works.
I finally figured out why LR sometimes ignores the paste command and if not a bug, it is at least a problem that can adversely affect the unsuspecting user. Pasting a WB does not always work if both the source/target are both "As Shot", and yet the Temp/Tint are still different. It seems priority should be given to the actual numbers instead of the As shot status, which (in my case) could vary between cameras. The logic is a bit strange.
I can see how whether or not this is a bug is debatable, but it seems more useful to have it work the other way. There should at least be a message when the paste command results in no expected action (I expect the actual WB numbers to take priority over "as shot").
I am testing the trial version of Photoshop CS5.5 and I am experiencing a weird issue while using the marquee tool while selecting a portion of an image, cutting that section and pasting it to a new layer.
First off I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, 2.8Ghz Dual Core Processor, 4 Gigs Memory, 2 Gig Video card and current on updates with a fresh vanilla install of CS5.5. Not filters or plugin installed.
Step by step of issue is as follows,
I take an image on layer 1 and while using the marquee tool select and area on that image. I want to cut and Past In Place that selection on a new layer, layer 3.
This will allow me to insert another layer, layer 2, in between layer 1 and layer 3 and show what ever I place on layer 2 but still have a complete background if the image does not fill the entire transparent section.
A good example is a wanted poster. You have your picture frame with the Wanted letters and reward. In the center you have a transparent square. In the back you have a black background. In between the frame and the background you place a face. The face will not fill the entire square so you will see some of the black back ground.
Now the problem appears to be that the dotted line of the marquee selection makes so you can see your selection stays transparent or deletes the ares directly enter it when you cut and past to a new layer. The transparent outline looks to be the same size of the dotted line when that selection is selected. I have looked and searched for this preamble and resolution but can not see one.
The picture below is the result after I deselect the area. You can see just above another section that I tried to cover up but did not get it all. If I try and stretch the section, it skews the contents out of proportion.

I've just started using PS Elements 10 again after not having used it for some time, and I've forgotten a few things. When I paste an image which I've selected from another image (image A) into a layer mask for image B, the image A selection appears in black and white. Also, is there a quick way to return PS Elements 10 to its default settings?
I have two DWG files and I want to paste the content of the first into the second file with the original coordinates. It sounds very easy (and I am sure it is) but I am still failing. I open the first file, select all (crtl a), copy all (crtl a), open the other file and want to chose the function: right click > paste with original coordinates. But this open is not active (grey) and can not be clicked. Actually there is no paste function available to click on if I do a right click.
I have an image, all black of a ballerina on one layer, with black text on another. I am trying to put a bouquet of red roses at her feet, but it turns shades of grey when I attempt to do that.
When I copy a vector shape from one layer to another, the shape picks up the color attributes of an existing shape in the second layer (or sometimes only the outline of the shape appears). What to I do to avoid this from happening (I just just want to paste the shape in its original form and color)?
You can copy both the surface and the original (in this case contour polylines) data or only the surface. In both cases paste operation results into a copy of both data and surface.
Ok, But when paste and rebuild, the distance from original base point and destination point is applied in turn to the surface itself. Maybe it is a BUG ?
I am using ACAD 2005 and am trying to copy&paste several objects from a layer I created in one .dxf file to one of the 2 standard layers (0 or Defpoints) in a new blank .dxf file.
My problem though is that if I copy and paste all of the objects (or even one of them) and them move to the new file and paste, it pastes the objects, but also "imports" into the new file the original file's layer that these objects were on.
For clarity, the new file only has the 2 standard layers and then after copy/pasting an object, the file manager shows the 3rd layer from the original file.
Our department currently uses MS Paint to place varied colored boxes for call outs on top of screen figures used in our documentation. As you know, MS Paint is not a robust image editing application, and we are frustrated at its limitations (especially not having a "non-destructive" edit capability).
Consequently, we are evaluating a trial version of PS to see how a workflow could be developed that would allow the department to use call out boxes "stored" in a PS file that could be applied in an easy, consistent manner to our screen figures (but also keep each call out box editable) using PS.
Consequently, in PS using the shape tool, I created a file with our colored boxes for call outs, each on its own layer. Now I am trying to determine how you copy and paste a box (or layer) from this file to a "working" file (one containing a screen figure), while keeping all of its attributes (color, line weight, being editable, etc.). I can't seem to find an option to do this. Is there? If not, is there another workflow in PS that you can recommend for this type of procedure?
For the projects I'm working on, I use the same template beneath the different layer groups of each different project. When I move a "color" layer into the group, however, it doesn't show up like it's supposed to. It behaves as if the 'color' layer is a blank layer, and has no effect. Is there any way to get this to work or?...
I have problem with attached block (also with other similar blocks with field). This block include field in block attribute. Works fine if I copy and paste this block. When I drag and drop from Tool Pallete field disappeary.
So, in PS if you make a selection and past it into a new layer it ends up in exactly the same position, however if I do the same on GIMP the selection is pasted at the top left hand corner. Then it's a major pain moving it to exactly the same place as the original
Most of my workflow is doing this sort of thing so it's real problem now.
