I want to copy some objects from one drawing to another. However, in the source drawing the objects are on one layer, but I want them on another layer in the target drawing. I know pasting the objects as a block fixes the problem, but as soon as I explode them they're back on their original layer - and I have to select them all and move them to the preferred layer - which can be tedious with multiple objects.
View 9 RepliesI am working on a .dwg file in AutoCAD 2013 , and on one specific layer (defpoints), I am not able to select any of the objects. Initially, I thought that the layer may have been locked or frozen, but it is not. Additionally, I went ahead and locked then unlocked the layer as well as froze then thawed the layer, still not able to select any objects on the layer.
My next attempt to fix the problem was to run the command "AUDIT", and instructed to "Yes" fix any errors detected. The command seemed to execute correctly, however, it did not do anything. The objects on the layer still cannot be selected.
I am using the command Draw Order and would like to use the Quick Select so that I can select all objects on a specific layer. How do I use the Quick Select in conjuction with the Draw Order command?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using ACAD 2005 and am trying to copy&paste several objects from a layer I created in one .dxf file to one of the 2 standard layers (0 or Defpoints) in a new blank .dxf file.
My problem though is that if I copy and paste all of the objects (or even one of them) and them move to the new file and paste, it pastes the objects, but also "imports" into the new file the original file's layer that these objects were on.
For clarity, the new file only has the 2 standard layers and then after copy/pasting an object, the file manager shows the 3rd layer from the original file.
How can I select all objects in a layer and copy and paste the objects into a new document? We are having issues with the copy and paste method. Is this because it uses the operating systems clipboard?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm batching my signature onto a bunch of photos at the bottom righthand corner. I put my preferences to percentage rather than pixels so I could try things for most sized-photos. My dilemma now goes like this:
I record, open my signature, copy & paste to the other image (works fine). The signature shows up in the middle of the other image and rather than moving it manually where it'll be different for vertical and horizontal photos, is it possible to align right and bottom or get specific with entering numbers such as 90% horizontal and 90% vertical placement?
Basically, when you copy & paste to a different open file, is there a way to specify exactly where it should go when you paste it, or do you have to manually move it?
I've had a simple lisp I've been using for years that suddenly disappeared. It required that you identify a block name, tag name, and the value that you want the tag to be. All of this is performed via command line, so it is scriptable. Since I lost it, I've been experimenting with -attedit. This command comes frustratingly close to what I'm looking for, except it only appends an existing tag, or replaces a specific string within the tag; I can't get it to replace the entire tag, regardless of its value.

I am in the course of evaluating Xara, and it has a lot of good things going for it compared to Adobe, particularly in combining many of the features of ID and AI. The graduated color screening on objects is way better than AI.
However, I cannot find how to copy an object or text block and paste multiples at specific intervals. Both Pagemaker and InDesign have this feature, so I can't believe Xara overlooked it, as it is particularly useful when laying out say business cards 12 up on a sheet for printing. Yes, I have done a search on this forum and also studied Xara help files.
In most vector based programs I am used to using a function which allows you to paste a copied item to a specific location determined by a point-click. I find this endlessly more useful than pasting to the centre of the screen, or even paste in place, as both are rarely anywhere near where I would like an object to be. I find the function of point-click paste does away with endless dragging of objects across the screen.

How is possible to create a shade-render from specific objects in my drawing?
I am using the View>Turn textures ON option in my AutoCAD and what it does is to try to render all objects in my drawing, so no wonder the program freezes.
I have several .dwg files that I use as templates. I run find and replace VBA routines on the template .dwg files, ie find $Flavor$ and replace it with "Grape", and then I save the .dwg to another directory with a new name.
These VBA routines work well for acdbText and acdbMText objects, but I have a bunch of AcdbAttributeDefinition objects in the .dwg templates as well.
After much research about the AutoCAD object model (I'm mostly a Microsoft Access VBA programmer), I have come to understand that these AcdbAttributeDefinition objects are actually "remnants" of a block that no longer exists in the drawing.
Anyway, I'd like to convert all of these orphaned AcdbAttributeDefinition objects to acdbText objects in the templates and then delete the AcdbAttributeDefinition objects. I have some code that does just that.
However, the issue that I am having with the code is that the newly created acdbText objects are not on the same layer that the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects were on. I don't know the syntax to identify what layer the AcdbAttributeDefinition object is on or how to specify what layer on which the acdbText object is created.
how to keep the acdbText objects on the same layers as the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects during the conversion and deletion process?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Visual Studio 2010 and AutoCAD 2012 64bit on a Windows 7 64 bit machine 8GB of ram. I am trying to copy a user selection and then paste the selection in another drawing or the same drawing based upon buttons on my form. The user will specify a base point and then select all of the objects to copy. I store the objects in a selection set so that the user could paste the selection multiple times into various drawings. The copy works correctly and I get a selection set from which I obtain the object Ids along with a point to transform my objects. My problem occurs during my paste routine. The Deep Clone Objects or WblockCloneObjects seems to be working correctly and then I get into my code to transform the entities. I'm also storing some information about the blocks so that I can manipulate our proprietary database later via another function call. It seems like everything works correctly, but when I select a large number of objects I receive a fatal error. FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading oxffbc4008 Exception at ed010939h. It seems that the number of objects that people can copy varies on each user's computer.

I know you can change the width of the polyline by using the command "plinewid". Is there a way to set a specific width of the polyline on just one specific layer?
For example, I create a layer called "WIDE", and I want the width of the polyline to be 4". But i want the pline width to be 4" ONLY whenever I draw on this particular layer called "WIDE"; but if I draw on the other layers, the polyline width would be back to the default width. Is this even doable?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am looking to see if I missed a setting somewhere. I have hunted extensively, but the ability to set a view to a specific layer seems to be unavailable. What I woudl liek to be able to do is define the layer that the viewport is inserted on when I bring a view into a sheet using the sheetset manager. I love this system, but it does slow me down in that regard. If there is a setting or preference that I can switch to make that happen or am I going to have to write something to do it for me.

Also you may ask why do I need that, well it's because I have a lot of objects in one scene which causes a lot of lag and my exporting had some problems, which caused to every single object to copy themselfs to the middle of the scene, but all the original objects not copied objects are already in place and I don't want to remove them. I want to only remove duplicated objects. I'm using 3ds max 2012 64-bit on Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
