Revit :: Raster Print Quality
Dec 5, 2012I'm having issues with print quality on certain drawings, which is a shame as print quality generally exceeds that of AutoCAD Architecture.
The issue I have is with a SHADED and shadowed elevation drawing. When I go to print to PDF it insists line removal is done using raster rather than vector processing. This leads to a poor quality PDF both on screen and printed.
I accept that automatically generated shadows may make this necessary but with then turned off, I don't.
If I print a coloured plan, say a room or area drawing with automatically generated colours, it's quite happy to plot it using vector processing. I DO NOT see any difference between this and a shaded elevation without shadows! Any way of improving the look of raster processed output?

May 2, 2011I am facing the following problem in Autocad 2012:
I have set all the drawings I want to print in the Sheet Set Manager and I publish everything to plotter for unattended plotting. However, when publishing the same drawings to PDF using the SSM, all raster images do no print. If I open each drawing and plot the same layout on its own, everything prints just fine. So I think there is something wrong when publishing through the SSM.
The funny thing is that before using Autocad 2012 I was using version 2010 and everything worked as expected, the raster images were printed no matter where I was printing from.

Jan 27, 2012I have problem with AutoCAD DWG to PDF printer. When I use a vector drawing with a raster map attached and print the layout with the DWG to PDF printer, all the vector elements looks perfect in the output pdf file, but the raster image is almost unreadable. It doesn't work if I increase print resolution and it looks if there would be some kind of default jpeg compression inside this printer but there aren't any settings to control it or simply turn it off. After plotting such a drawing on the HP plotter it is so awful that there is no use of such a file.

I get evenly spaced white stripes in raster images (inserted via insert or ole) Vector lines and text appear just fine on top of the image. I've tried changing the spooler location and image quality to no avail. I have attached a scan of the output I am getting.

Jul 25, 2012Following instructions from Autodesk as to how to install the Raster driver for image exports I installed "plotters" for JPEG, TIFF, BMP and PNG. None of them work. When I try to one of them, the result is a blank file about 39KB in size.

Mar 6, 2013Long-term user of CorelDraw, and have just found Xara P&GD, which is quite a revelation. I've re-designed my business card and how to print to A4, pre-perforated card. CorelDraw can make use of Avery templates for printing the single business card design, multiple times, on the same sheet of card, but I can't find a way to do this with Xara without physically copying the design to make a composite A4 layout. Can Xara do this the "template" way?

Nov 12, 2013I am completely unable to get a couple of the photos to resize to where they will print in an 8x10 (960x768) format. No matter what I do, they're either cut off or they're distorted. I know the problem is that the original jpg file from my camera is not exactly the right proportions but isn't there some way to correct that using DPX?
In the three above, the people on the ends are cut off when I order the prints, despite my edits and resize efforts.In this one, the print comes out distorted because the sides are squashed in when it is printed at the store.
Xara :: How To Print And Export Transparency
Jul 4, 2013Reading the Help document it says that transparency in a document is rendered as a bitmap when printing because PostScript can't handle it. This is also the case when exporting to certain file formats.
Isn't there a better solution to this? There are some truly magnificent tools in Xara and I'm sure this means that the technology is there to render documents in a suitable form when printing and exporting.
I've just tried to get a simple logo using some flat transparency from Xara into a Microsoft product and the transparent parts have given me big headaches as I want a true vector solution. The only way I found to work was going via Adobe Illustrator. If Illustrator can do it then why can't Xara? Isn't there some way that Xara can analyse the parts with transparency and create new vector objects where possible?
How does everyone else handle this - do you all simply ignore the transparency tool and work without it?
Xara :: Advert Very Unclear After Going To Print?
Sep 28, 2012I designed an advert. The newspaper requested the advert be sent in as a pdf at 300dpi.
I met the requirements and e-mailed the advert to the newspaper.
However, after being printed, the text was very hazy, fuzzy and unreadable, although the picture was clear.What caused the unclear text?

I have mainly used the magic erase tool to remove spots. I have tried some live effects but lose some definition especially in the faces.

Putting together a 'family photo' but family members are far-flung, so can't be in one place, so I have received photos of everyone. I want to trim and combine photos into one picture, but skin tones do not match. They were take under varying light conditions. (clothing colors aren't important)

Sep 1, 2011I am trying to export some artwork as a PDF so I can get it printed, but every time I try to export it I get the attached message. I have tried various times always after a reboot but with no luck.
The file is only just under 7mb in size so I can't figure out why it is doing it.
It is important that I export with layers as I have a cutter guide included so the printer can see where he needs to position the print on the sheet and it is printed on both sides.

Xara :: Print Objects Larger Than Page
Feb 9, 2011I am feeling a bit dumb at the moment. How does one print something larger than the "physical" page size--ie., tiled pages--in Designer Pro 6?
I have a drawing that is 3 times the length of US letter size (actual size of the drawing is 7.5" x 30"). US letter size is 8.5" x 11". The page is defined as landscape, so 11" width, 8.5" height.
I regularly do this using another program and will have constant need to do so in the future.
Xara :: Make And Print Custom Cards
Aug 16, 2013I like to make and print custom cards for family and friends. I use a heavy matte finish paper to print on. But the printing is never as vibrant as my screen image, and this includes photos.
Today I tried this and it worked fine. I converted the image to be printed to a 300dpi bitmap, then using the Photo Tool > Enhance menu, I increased the Saturation to the point where the image looked psychedelic. When I printed on the dull finish card stock, the colors looked just right.
Xara :: How To Wrap Text Around Photos
Apr 26, 2013I'm very new to Xara Web Design (I have version 9). I'm trying to wrap the text around my photos. The 'help' file advises to repel text under and/or repel and anchor. I have tried both options and my photo just lands in the middle of the text. The tutorial just says to use the 'select' arrow and move the photo around and the text will form around it. No go....what am I doing wrong????

Dec 19, 2013I have a client who asked me to create artwork for a banner she is printing for a trade show. The banner is 19.5 FEET long and almost 8 feet high. I have designed the banner as 6.5x2.6ft with the intent of then dividing it into 9 equal parts which I would blow up to 6.5x2.6 and send off to the printer. So far so good. The problem is that the segments are still so large that when I try to export them as PDFs, I am running out of memory. I tried doing them as jpegs, but when I change the resolution for export to 300dpi, nothing changes- the number of pixels x umber of pixels doesn't increase. My client needs this artwork off to her printer asap and I am at a complete loss.

Feb 22, 2012I used to use Xara Xtreme 4 and loved it. Since changing my computer to one with Windows 7 I have not been able to use Xara Xtreme.
Needed to print out an old Xara image today so downloaded and installed Xara Web Designer 7 as this seems to be the nearest I can get to the old Xara Xtreme that runs on my laptop.
However, I can't find any "Print" option. It's not under File, Ctrl P doesn't do anything, nothing under right clicking. I need to print something quickly and I've given up trying to find the Print option. where have they 'hidden' Print?
Also, am I correct in thinking Web Designer 7 is the nearest program with features to Xara Xtreme or are the features of Xara Xtreme loss forever to this new web site design program?

Oct 4, 2011importing photos into Xara 7 - the photos have a "green" sheen to them - I've only noticed as I've been using xara to print out some photos for a friend who's printer died. he uses powerpoint to print his and the difference between the two is really marked! i'm assuming it's due to CMYK/RGB differences (ppt is RGB) but I can't for the life me see where I can alter the Xara settings so the photos come in as per ppt.

Jun 27, 2012This post is regarding using Designer Pro to edit print ready PDF's (with crop marks, colour bars etc) created using Photoshop and Illustrator. I can do the edits, but if I try and export the file it corrupts (colour values change, some text changes col)
The files are supplied to me by a designer and sometimes I need to do urgent changes myself before going to print. I have unticked the 'add printers marks' box to avoid a double set of marks and colour bars and have the fonts installed too.

Dec 15, 2011Size of page differs in page size dialogue box to that listed in print options box. I changed computers and it works correctly in the second one in that the page size is the same in both boxes, but I still cannot get it to work in the original pc. Both the file and the printer are common. Reinstalling Xara does not work. It looks like it is not installing correctly, even though it appears to be.
