I endlessly find that I have text line objects which I later wish had been proper text areas (because I want to control the size of their bounding box, for example).
Is there any sensible way to convert a text line object into a text area object - it's a bore to do it by creating a new text object and then cutting and pasting the text, and it is seemingly a trivial thing for the software to do automatically.
Alternatively, is there an option (perhaps a hidden one) to have all text objects created as areas rather than lines?

By default the text is located top left. Horizontal justification can make this top center or top right, but how about bottom left / center / right or even middle left / center / right?

Jul 13, 2012I am owner of the Xtreme5 Xara version (i've not already get more recents ones ! ), and I would like to know if it is possible to change the text area, not to have a squirreled shape for this text. (Or if there another method, I am interested in too !)
Very useful when you have to surround the shape of a picture, for instance...

To be explicit, I want it to be like I cut up a photo, and threw the outside away.

Furthermore, I'd like to have this to insert into a block for stretch action manipulation. Is this possible with AutoCAD 2010?

May 23, 2011I'm new to Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 6 and to graphics in general.
In layman's terms I would like to know how this programme can auto detect a foreground image (any non-square/non-rectangular image), select it and then delete everything else around it.
Whatever is deleted around it needs to be transparent, not white, so that I can copy and paste the sole foreground image into Powerpoint so that the image doesn't end up with a square white background around it (especially when my Powerpoint template has a non white background).
I'm not working with finnicky images or detailed photos. They're mostly two colour stock images like black silhouettes of people against white backgrounds, so I thought that kind of image would be relatively easy to 'smart select' and separate from the contrasting background colour.
Can this Xara programme do this for me? If not, is there any other basic and cost effective programmes that can do this for me? It's literally the only editing function I need in a graphics programme.
Xara :: Fill Area With Colour In 6?
Jun 22, 2011How to fill an area with a colour in Xara 6, when that space is surrounded by different 'objects'?
So say I drew 3 separate lines to form a triangle. How can I fill that triangle with a colour? If I select the Fill Tool and choose a colour, then click in the centre of the triangle nothing happens.
If I were to do the same thing in Illustrator then it would simply create a new shape that fitted the space.
Perhaps this is not possible? Such a simple thing though, I feel I must be missing something. Is it perhaps available on Xara 7?
Xara :: Defaulting Area To Save To Page?
Apr 17, 2007Is there any way to default the "Area to Save" option on the export menu, to "Page"? This is nothing crucial, but it would save me some time, because I select that hundreds of times. If I could pre-define "Page", I would be even more happy

Feb 23, 2011I create a square, 300px by 300px. I duplicate the square, resize to 200px by 200px. Highlight both, press Ctrl-F4 and remove the inside box. What I have left looks like a picture frame. Is there a way to shadow the inside area? (the part I cut out)

Mar 14, 2012I've been an avid user of the Xara Graphics designer for about 2 years and I've been trying to deal with an annoying issue for quite some time when dealing with Shadows. I've come to realize that every shadow is given an outline and if I have a shape with a shadow that goes to the edge of my drawing the outline will actually continue passed the edge of my drawing. When I export the whole image the edge where the shadow outline bleeds over gets rendered as a blank margin. I've attached examples.
The shadow outline can be seen as the box bleeding over the edge...annoying....this is how it looks when I change the quality to "outline"
This is the actually image at "very high quality"....as you can see..the shadow outline edge has exported as empty margins around the graphic
The shadow outline grows or shrinks as I change the shadow blur...this can be seen in the "outline" view... I want to export to the edge of the colored area but I also want the shadow effect...
Xara :: Removing Selected Coloured Area From Image?
Jun 4, 2012effective way of removing a selected coloured area from an image (a jpeg in this instance) without affecting other parts of the image. I've added a sample to illustrate what I mean.
I,ve tried the select color/ erase tool but find that it select the white from all parts of the picture, even from other colours.The picture is too complex for the freehand mask tool and time consuming.
Is there another way, or even a plug in that could vouch for?
Xara :: REGEDIT Value Change To Widen Active Area Of Gallery Borders
Apr 15, 2011I like the dark skin, but it seems more difficult to grab the bottom of the Color Gallery in order to stretch it down. The Grey was easier. The area where the mouse converts to the double arrow is quite narrow. At least for an old shaky man like me. Is there a REGEDIT value I could change to widen the "active" area of the gallery borders for the purpose of stretching them?

Aug 27, 2012Clarify the use of Magic Erase - I am using Photo & Graphic Designer 2013.When I try to replace an area with another of the same photo it does not work properly with PNG but seems to work almost 90% good with BMP.It looks like the colour is not correct with PNG even thou the Feather = None.
Does this means that Magic Erase should be done with another format than PNG? If there is possible that Magic Erase will not copy the source area colour 100% on any format even if the Feather = None?
Photoshop :: Text Edit Area Appears As Inactive / Text Box Invisible
Apr 29, 2012I'm having this strange issue with the Photoshop type tool in Photoshop CS5. It might be, although I'm not sure, a bug. The tool itself is working and lets me add text and edit. But the box that shows up when editing text (and the blinking line that shows where I am in the text) - has gone invisible. I am having this issue in only one document. - I tested the type tool on other documents, and everything was normal. I've looked up shotcuts and hotkeys to check if I've tapped a key or something, but it doesn't appear to be so.
Now about the document; it does have quite the amount of text layers, and a lot of text in them. I've tried resetting the type tool, and I've restarted the program.
When I restart the program, the tool works as it's supposed to - but after editing or adding a new text layer, the editing area is gone again! Is this a bug, or have I touched keys that do odd things?

Jul 11, 2013I'm using an iMac and Illustrator CC. I created a text area box. I want to place text from an outside Word document into the area box. When I go to File>Place and locate the text file, I click on Place. When I'm returned to my Illustrator CC document, the original area box is deselected and my cursor is loaded and ready for me to drag out a new area box. Shouldn't the placed text fill the original area box?

I draw the circle, compose the text, and set it to the middle Select both circle and text Arrange/Fit Text to Curve....the text appears around the lower, right side of the cirle After all this I am unable to manipulate the text (It's a piece of cake to do this in Publisher 2010, but it has some minor problems in appearance)
Photoshop :: Hiding An Area Of Text
Feb 2, 2005I have an image with a text layer and another text layer. The text on one layer overlaps an area of the text on the other layer (which I want to do).
But what I really want is for one of the two overlapping sections to be behind the other to give the appearance that the two text objects are intertwined. I have attached the image to this post. The items I am talking about are the two sections of the large orange "C" that cross over the large blue"C".

Feb 9, 2012Fitting text to a specified area. To clarify, I am trying to fill letters into a Harley Davidson logo. The top and bottom rockers on the logo have the text skewed to fit the shape of the shield. If you are familiar with the logo, the text in the top and bottom rockers has one flat side and one stretched side.
I've attempted to try some text to path options but they aren't doing at all what I need. It's essentially a standard line of text with either the top or bottom (respectively) stretched to fit the point of the top rocker and the curve of the bottom.

Sep 19, 2012I'm trying to rotate text inside an text area type.That is, rotate the text (so its e.g. 30 degrees going across the screen), but the area it is within does not rotate.
Everything I try when rotating rotates the entire area + the text in side, which makes the positioning of the shape my text is in wrong.I am after being able to change the inside text angle and content whenever needed.

May 21, 2013I'm using Illustrator CS6 with a file that someone else produced. Many of the area text bounding boxes are way bigger than they need to be. In Freehand, I used to be able to double-click on a corner of the bounding box and the box would automatically resize itself to just fit around the text (loved that feature!). Is there something similar in Illustrator? Or do I need to go through and manually resize all the bounding boxes by dragging them smaller?
