Mar 1, 2013I just tried to draw a simple oval in XPGD7, and it seems I can only draw a circle.

View 4 RepliesI'm doing a bit of very simple DTP in Xara and I wanted to check my approach to creating text across multiple pages:
1) Create a text block (I think Xara calls these a 'story') about the size of the page on Page 1 and then enter a bunch of text until it spills out of the bottom.
2) Add a second page.
3) Here's where I may not be doing things 'correctly'... I want the spill over from Page 1 to go onto page 2 so I copied the text block on Page 1, Paste it in-place onto Page 2, deleted the text content on Page 2 then finally go back to page 1 and drag from the little icon in the bottom right of the text block into page 2's block.
I've tried searching, but haven't been able to find any straight-forward instructions for creating a simple animated gif.

Any basic tutorial for creating simple animations? For example, I downloaded an animated "fire" font for use on our website but it's not animated when I use the font. It'd be nice if I could just make my own.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a low-res bitmap. It has a dark grey background with a plain white icon. The transitional pixels are various shades of grey.
I want to make the dark grey into a bright blue, leave the white white, and have the transitional pixels changed to maintain their respective "in between" values.
I do have Photoshop CS2 but I though Xara was more likely to be able to do this.
I have created a simple animation with 6 frames in the gallery. I want to link each individual frame to different websites. So, as the animation on the site is changing, you can click on one frame, and it takes you to one site, or you click on the next frame and it takes you to another site.

I tried to use the "drawing" effect but it's still looks too real.
I'm wanting to do something seemingly very simple but I've never tried working with pictures before other than to resize or crop. How do I convert a simple picture to a line drawing?
View 3 Replies View Relatedwe use Corel Draw but different versions. Some of us use the X4, some X3 and some even 12 or 11. We have huge problem with the time interval past while importing even a single simple outline drawing. We usually wait from 4 - 7 minutes.
My question is what could be the problem? Different versions of Corel Draw?, bed LAN connection?, or something else?
I have a data set including .shx .shp .prj and .dbf files each named the same for landuse, rail, road, etc for a single city. How can I open these files to export a simple line drawing for use in a thesis project as a map.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIllustrator keeps freezing when applying an effect such as texture-grain to a simple gradient, or even rasterizing a simple black circle. My system is about a 6month old macbook pro with 16gb ram, i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. What could be causing this? It wasn't like this when i first started using the laptop but has started to do it everytime i try and do any of those simple tasks recently.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to take a photo I have and make it into a drawing that actually looks like a drawing. I'm going through tutorials and don't see exactly what I'm referring to, I have a photograph image of a flower that I took - now I want to make that flower look like a hand-drawn color pencil drawing. how to get this effect? I know how to use the shape editor tool to get the outline of the photo, but how to create the fills to look like shaded pencil/charcoal fill?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with Pro for a while now, followed quite a few of the tutorials from Messrs Priester and Bouton - which have been great, and a really good way to learn stuff with Xara.
I'm trying to draw a steel ball bearing 'cos I think that would be great way to experiment with gradients and transparencies, - but like a lot of the black arts of digital graphics I can't get a decent result.
Here is a little video that I did some time ago for Xara-Users on how to create a heart in Xara's drawing products. Any of the products with 'designer' in the name will do. There are 3 different methods for drawing a heart in this tutorial. My personal favorite is the square and two circles technique, but to each his own.

I am a novice user using C2
the new Xara Pro X9, but did happen to notice... Is there any way to get the old style drawing back like Xara Xtreme 2? In Xara Pro X9, it seems you have to drag a line to make one, where in the older versions it was click a point move click another point and it draws a line between them, it was much easier to draw lines and bend them on the fly with the older version, or am I missing a step with the new software.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan we alter the "Accuracy" of drawing an object in Xara? As an example, when I try to specify a size of 2.625, the 'size indicator box' in the info bar shows a size of 2.63. Is there a way to increase the accuracy of the sizing?
When I specify the 2.625 and 2.63 is indicated, is the object actually the desired 2.625? If so, is there a setting that allows for a finer display of information?
...and I do realize it's only 5 thousandths of an inch here, but I'm asked to design to specific sizes and this level of accuracy is indicated.
I just started using Xara and have been doing some sketches in Xara Photo & Graphics 7.0 Once I am done my sketch I often want to delete a line (inner line I used to draw but now needs to be deleted to make sketch look right). Is there a way to erase part of a line. If I try to highlight and delete the line I lose the whole thing. I just want to delete part of a line (in the center of the line not at the end of it). So far I have been importing into photoshop and erasing my lines with the eraser tool but it takes so much time!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI haven't been doing graphics for a few years and are having trouble getting Xara Extreme to export a small drawing with a transparent background. I am selecting the image in Xara, Export, Save as .png, True color + alpha, Save

How I would give this image an oval border?
So that it looks like this:
How to pattern a point around an oval!
If it is a feature, I can use sweep around the oval being a path. If I'm in a 2D sketch, then I can't use sweep and path. If I use, say, circular patterning, it won't give the desired result for my path is an oval!
I have four buttons that are oval shaped at a size of 100 pixels wide and about 25 pixels high.
In the future, I might want to change the text so instead of creating the button with text on it; I would like to use plain text.
I've tried slicing it and adding the text after making the middle section (text section) the background. Of course this messes up the tables and it becomes a mess. Can somebody tell me the best way to slice this?
This is basically a rectangular image. I want to put a border around the oval.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to convert my barmitzvah album to jpeg so it can be displayed in a photo frame. To do this I've scanned each page at home and put them on CD because I have to go to the library to use Photoshop.
(before anyone says I violated copyright by scanning professional photos without permission 1) The photography studio no longer exists, 2) Photos were made prior to 1989 and do not have the required copyright information per this notice.)
Originally I was going to just scan each page and be done with it but due to the size of the pages and the scanners I have access to I would have to do two passes and stitch them together. When I tried doing that the subjects of the photos lined up but not the background so now I want to remove the background.
I had no problem with some pictures but the one is the first I've had an issue with. Using the Magic Extractor it takes out almost all of the background see this image which is left from the original.
I've tried using the oval tool to select the inner part but can't get it lined up correctly. Where should I be starting from?
I am creating a collage of photos and can't figure out how to give the top photo an oval frame so all the photos are visible.
how to create rectangular frames.
I created an oval: 418x528 and using stroke, gave it a one pixel border. Unfortunately, the oval border looks not smooth. I'd like to give it a wider border, but the unsmoothness looks worse the wider you make the border.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create an oval/circular shaped reception desk, which needs me to create a circular slab. It won't allow me to apply slab properties to circular objects, I have also tried creating a square slab, then cutting holes in it... but still, it won't let me use circular linework to cut holes in slabs. Drawing an oval using straight lines would be innacurate and too time consuming.
Any alternative methods of creating something oval that can represent the worktop of a reception desk, or perhaps knows how to create a circular slab?
