Here is a little video that I did some time ago for Xara-Users on how to create a heart in Xara's drawing products. Any of the products with 'designer' in the name will do. There are 3 different methods for drawing a heart in this tutorial. My personal favorite is the square and two circles technique, but to each his own.
View 4 RepliesI do a lot of design for engraving and most of the items are odd shapes that I wish to fill with design. I wish to engrave a name in block letters on a heart shaped locket. I wish for the name itself, to be in the form of the heart. I know I can put a mold on the name and play with the handles to sort of get it close to a heart shape, but it occurred to me that it would be real nice to simply drop a photo of the item into the file, do a nice outline of the item with the pen tool or shape tool and after getting a real good outline...to just make that shape into a mold I could save and use to apply to most anything I wish to mold into a heart shaped form. Is there a way to make a shape outline...any unfilled shape into a "mold" and not have to play with the preset mold shapes that are found in the mold tool? Any way to save it once you went to the trouble of making it? I had hoped there would simply be a right click on the shape and a menu button saying "use as mold" or such. Another menu choice with "save as mold"...that would put the icing on the cake..

I'm going through tutorials and don't see exactly what I'm referring to, I have a photograph image of a flower that I took - now I want to make that flower look like a hand-drawn color pencil drawing. how to get this effect? I know how to use the shape editor tool to get the outline of the photo, but how to create the fills to look like shaded pencil/charcoal fill?

Trying to get the words Ocean City in 2 lines and have it look as close as possible to look like it was written in the sand (without me having to drive an hour to the beach and make one myself and photograph it) although it is tempting to do!

I have a picture of the earth, opened in photoshop. My question is, how do I make it heart shaped.
I tried creating another layer, and using the custom shape thing to create a heart, and then tried clone stamping the earth pic into the heart, but it didn't work. The error I got was;
"could not use clone stamp because content of layer is not directly editable"
Is there a way to make the earth into a heart shape?

I am struggling with creating and maintaining Tables in a DTP project for a client. I am using Photo & Graphic Design 6, though I'd upgrade to 7 if it would solve my Tables problems.
I have created a table of organized text in Word, and then copied it. I pasted it into Xara, choosing EMF as the only one that really looked like what I created. And now I cannot work with it as a table! Nor can I find anything that easily creates a table for me in Xara. Creating and formatting tables seems to be a very basic kind of feature necessary for DTP. Have I missed something?
I have gone too far into this project using Xara, so I must finish it using Xara and not another product now.
I need to be able to have it move from page to page inline, not as an image, but as a table, when I insert new client text before the table. I also need to resize it without resizing the text. Did I make a mistake using Xara for a DTP project? Or maybe I just missed seeing how to handle Tables properly?

In Xara Pro X9, it seems you have to drag a line to make one, where in the older versions it was click a point move click another point and it draws a line between them, it was much easier to draw lines and bend them on the fly with the older version, or am I missing a step with the new software.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan we alter the "Accuracy" of drawing an object in Xara? As an example, when I try to specify a size of 2.625, the 'size indicator box' in the info bar shows a size of 2.63. Is there a way to increase the accuracy of the sizing?
When I specify the 2.625 and 2.63 is indicated, is the object actually the desired 2.625? If so, is there a setting that allows for a finer display of information?
...and I do realize it's only 5 thousandths of an inch here, but I'm asked to design to specific sizes and this level of accuracy is indicated.
I just started using Xara and have been doing some sketches in Xara Photo & Graphics 7.0 Once I am done my sketch I often want to delete a line (inner line I used to draw but now needs to be deleted to make sketch look right). Is there a way to erase part of a line. If I try to highlight and delete the line I lose the whole thing. I just want to delete part of a line (in the center of the line not at the end of it). So far I have been importing into photoshop and erasing my lines with the eraser tool but it takes so much time!

My normal usage of Xara is for banners and posters etc. not art or technical drawing. Anyway, I wanted to create a specific shape in Xara - it's not that I can't create it otherwise (it's very simple to create in CAD and export as PDF - import into Xara), it's that I can't create it in Xara - No matter what I try I cannot create this exact shape. I say exact specifically because I can close to fudge it, that's not the point. How would I go about creating this shape exactly.
