I have a low-res bitmap. It has a dark grey background with a plain white icon. The transitional pixels are various shades of grey.
I want to make the dark grey into a bright blue, leave the white white, and have the transitional pixels changed to maintain their respective "in between" values.
I do have Photoshop CS2 but I though Xara was more likely to be able to do this.
I have a screenshot, which I have cropped to a specific area to show a specific part of a window: a shape with a bitmap fill, or a cropped bitmap whichever way you consider it.
Next I have another screenshot, of exactly the same dimensions, showing the same window - but showing that window in a different state.
Both screenshots are bitmaps in my document, both appear in the Bitmap Gallery.
I'm not sure if something changed in recent versions of Xara, or I have forgotten the drag+key combination, but how can I drag the second bitmap onto a copy of the first bitmap-filled shape so that the SAME part of the bitmap is shown?
Using different combinations of SHIFT and CTRL I seem to be able to replace all instances of the first bitmap with the second: It is scary that a shape with a bitmap fill offscreen or on another page can be changed unwittingly!
I know I saw a video on how to do it from scratch, but I dont remember now. Why does it update all the images in a row? and how do I just update 1? place it on a new layer?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf I have a bitmap image that has been cropped to an irregular shape (say a star or pear etc) is there any way in CorelDraw to replace the image without having to crop and position the bitmap all over again. I thought It would be as simple as clicking edit bitmap & pasting the new image once in corel photo paint but that does not seem to be the case.
edit: also is it possible to swap the image with a higher resolution version.

I have clipped a photo to remove the background and now want to replace one of the images in a website gallery. I know I can delete the original image and replace it but is there a way I can drag my new picture over the old one and replace it like I can when I drag an image from the Bitmap Gallery?
I presume it isn't possible as the original image is a square or rectangle that is filled with the bitmap and the clipped image is an irregular shape.

In a layout for an ebook I have some important black and white bitmap illustrations in tiff., 300 dpi. These have appeared ok on print, but on screen, reading the same pdf-file, they're unacceptable, especially some texts in fontsize 5-6 pt are unclear. I have to convert the drawings, or at least the texts, to vector graphics. Can I open these tiff.s in Photoshop, change only the texts to vector graphics and then save in a format, that can be inserted in the Word2010 layout?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a colored object, and I have a specific swatch of color that I need to change the current color of the object to. The problem I'm having is that the specific color that I'm trying to apply to the object doesn't look integrated with the object itself, it just looks like I've applied a color film over it. It's milky-looking and there's not enough contrast. I've tried adjusting levels, using different blending modes, using the Match Color command ..I can't seem to keep the integrity of the color I'm applying to the object, while still keeping the integrity of the details of the object itself. How should I tackle this using multiple layers and blending modes, and so the new color looks integrated and believable?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm doing a bit of very simple DTP in Xara and I wanted to check my approach to creating text across multiple pages:
1) Create a text block (I think Xara calls these a 'story') about the size of the page on Page 1 and then enter a bunch of text until it spills out of the bottom.
2) Add a second page.
3) Here's where I may not be doing things 'correctly'... I want the spill over from Page 1 to go onto page 2 so I copied the text block on Page 1, Paste it in-place onto Page 2, deleted the text content on Page 2 then finally go back to page 1 and drag from the little icon in the bottom right of the text block into page 2's block.

Any basic tutorial for creating simple animations? For example, I downloaded an animated "fire" font for use on our website but it's not animated when I use the font. Recognized that any bitmap I do import (neither via drag n`drop or via bitmap galerie ) I can no longer move or resize with in grapmode. Only using the arrow keys. Instead whenever I grap the bitmap with the mouse it shows view extract.
In any case, I am sure there is something I made in the set-up and not generally wrong in the software.But which "button" do I need to "turn" to get the original set-up back?
Background.
About five years ago I had to prepare a series of cave maps and one of the caves was in granite. I needed to have the geological symbol for granite as a fill for use in the various cross sections. OK. I made the fill (a random scattering of "V"s) and used it. And kept the file, lets call it A.
Switch to now. I am making a map of an arch that I explored last year. The map is almost finished and I need the fill again. This is map B.
My question is how to I get the fill out of map A so as I can use it in Map B?
I know the answer is possibly very simple but not obvious to me. I have tried a workaround which involved importing the whole map A into Map B and then removing the original. This worked but seems really kludgy.
I was checking out this tutorial on wrapping a bitmap around a sphere, and I downloaded the referenced filters. The filters did not seem to work. The spherical mould tool seems not to work for me either.

Many and many times We have to convert shapes to bitmap due to CPU issues when We use blends, etc, that is to say, We draw vectorial but We are limited if We push xara to the limits.
The other doubt is, what happens when we use fills, for instance the ones that come with xara, aren't they bitmaps?, will they looks as sharp as We want when we use them in large drawings?.
What happens with transparencies?, are they vector?, what about shadow tool?.
I have shape with a 'single tile' bitmap fill and the bitmap is smaller than the shape (which is what I need) but I want the fill of the shape not taken up with the bitmap to be white, however this is defaulting to transparent. I've gotten around this by cloning the shape, setting the fill to flat white and placing it behind the original (bitmap filled) shape. This works fine but is there a way to do this without resorting to this second copy?

Ususally I just make my own textures, but I wanted to edit an existing texture this time. The texture is for armor called Red Dragon Armor, it has red scales on it.
I want to replace these red scales (without taking away the details such as the streaking and the scratches) with gold. I tried using "Color select" then "colorify" but it didn't come out quite right.
What is the usual method for changing the color of a section of an image if there are details and you don't want to use the "bucket fill" option?
I just tried to draw a simple oval in XPGD7, and it seems I can only draw a circle.

For this clipped that actual part in Clip tool, so in the document only that one can be seen. But in Bitmap Tracer seems that always the whole image analised, how to "real" clip from the picture?
I have a clear black and white bitmap which I am trying to vectorise using the bitmap tracer tool under utilities, i have tried tweaking the settings to so many different combinations but it still traces it with jagged edges and it's not very 'clean' as opposed to the original image. it's a black and white drawing with definitive shapes.

With one of my filters, I can get such effect, but only with included white background. But I need it without background, just like if cropped. Is there any way to get that effect?
