I can't I never tried out the bitmap fill tool until now lol. I was wondering if there are sites that you can get fills and add them into to Xara, I have tried a few texture files, but for what ever reason Xara does not find them when I load the directory (disk fills...)

If I draw a shape (or select an already existing shape) and choose "Bitmap Fill" or "Full Color Pattern" CDX6 freezes and then after several seconds throws the "CorelDRAW X6 has stopped working" error at me with the only options to "Check online for a solution..." or "Close the program"
Prior to the 16.2 update CDX6 would freeze in the above circumstances but eventually come out of it and apply the fill (program wouldn't have to be closed).
All other fills work as expected. This is a Win7 32-bit system.

I have a screenshot, which I have cropped to a specific area to show a specific part of a window: a shape with a bitmap fill, or a cropped bitmap whichever way you consider it.
Next I have another screenshot, of exactly the same dimensions, showing the same window - but showing that window in a different state.
Both screenshots are bitmaps in my document, both appear in the Bitmap Gallery.
I'm not sure if something changed in recent versions of Xara, or I have forgotten the drag+key combination, but how can I drag the second bitmap onto a copy of the first bitmap-filled shape so that the SAME part of the bitmap is shown?
Using different combinations of SHIFT and CTRL I seem to be able to replace all instances of the first bitmap with the second: It is scary that a shape with a bitmap fill offscreen or on another page can be changed unwittingly!
For some reason when I recently opened P&GD6 and opened the Fill gallery to choose a fill for an image, the majority of the fill folders would not open. Previously I could expand any of the folders to view the contents. Also, the top six folders in the Fill gallery list have (Web) after the folder name. I don't recall seeing this before either. The same folders also appear in the bottom of the list without the web designation.
How to get ALL of my fills back, or how they could have been made inaccessible? I've attached a screenshot view of the folder list that appears when I click the Fill icon. Yellow highlights at the top of the list indicate the folders with the word web after them. These are the only one that I can successfully open.
I've just been to the web site and downloaded a bunch of brushes and fills that are wonderful. I used the suggested for unzipping the files and then going to the disc fills and loading the files. I only got a few to load and then I got a message that suitable files could not be found. I checked all the folders that I created and everything is in there but I keep getting that same message. The brushes are another story all together. I went to the folder and dragged and dropped the files directly into the line gallery as a new brush but I can't remember how I save each brush so that every time I exit the program I lose all those beautiful brushes.

I noticed they are all stored in a cab file with their file extensions a bit changed, so I guess I could mass rename them and add manually, but I was wondering if there is any clean way of doing it? I don't want to reinstall, because I want to keep my toolbars and other settings...
...which brings me to my second question... how do I save the layout I created? I know new version is about to be released, and I would like to be able to back the layout up somehow and import, so I don't have to go through it all manually again. Anything I can do about it? I already tried backing up the entire xara registry, but didn't work...
Well, I bought Xara Designer Pro 7 the other day, and I'm trying to get used to it. One thing it's doing that really bugs me is that when I draw a circle or an oval in freehand, the circle fills in with solid color!

I worked through a tutorial to put some of my own images in a folder to use as fills and clipart, going through the index process etc worked fine. I couldn't see any way to save them so I hoped it would be an automatic save for such things. Unfortunately they have now disappeared. Is there a way to save my own folders so that I can use them in any document?I normally work in 8" x 8" square pages, but each time I need to go back to Options and select Units: Inches and page size: Custom and type in the size. Is there a way to save Options?
I downloaded some fills and brushes from Xara Xone, but even after reading the instructions given, I am unable to add them to Xtreme Pro 4. I unzipped and extracted the files to a folder on my flash drive. When I went to add them to Xara I could access the folder where they reside, but the files didn't come up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to edit a scanned abstract drawing where many of the colors are similar, resulting in them printing as all the same shade of red. I am attempting to change some of the reds to have a greater degree of shading. I am aware that I can probably do this using masks and RGB tweaking; but it occurred to me that I can also use a drawn shape and color fill with transparency to change the shade. This worked very well; but it caused one problem I don't know how to solve.
The image I am editing is intended to be uploaded to a website named Zazzle that takes your artwork and puts it on their products. This includes anything from notecards to canvases, to clothing, to shoes, etc., etc. Customers browse the site to find products and images they like. I also have a free webpage on the site where I can promote the sale of these items with my artwork on them.
The image must be a high resolution preferably png file which can be resized greatly for the canvases or left as is for notecards and the like.
While experimenting with the size of my image, I discovered that the edits I performed stay the same size while the rest of the image increases. Is it possible to make the edited shapes part of the scanned image so they will increase and decrease with the rest of the image?
I am currently attempting to fill a 3-D bit of text with a bitmap of stars that I had designed. I believe I made those stars in Pshop. Right, so I want to fill the interior of this word with the said stars, but I really haven't become accustomed to the process of gettting those mapped in there.

Recognized that any bitmap I do import (neither via drag n`drop or via bitmap galerie ) I can no longer move or resize with in grapmode. Only using the arrow keys. Instead whenever I grap the bitmap with the mouse it shows view extract.
In any case, I am sure there is something I made in the set-up and not generally wrong in the software.But which "button" do I need to "turn" to get the original set-up back?
Background.
About five years ago I had to prepare a series of cave maps and one of the caves was in granite. I needed to have the geological symbol for granite as a fill for use in the various cross sections. OK. I made the fill (a random scattering of "V"s) and used it. And kept the file, lets call it A.
Switch to now. I am making a map of an arch that I explored last year. The map is almost finished and I need the fill again. This is map B.
My question is how to I get the fill out of map A so as I can use it in Map B?
I know the answer is possibly very simple but not obvious to me. I have tried a workaround which involved importing the whole map A into Map B and then removing the original. This worked but seems really kludgy.
I was checking out this tutorial on wrapping a bitmap around a sphere, and I downloaded the referenced filters. The filters did not seem to work. The spherical mould tool seems not to work for me either.

Many and many times We have to convert shapes to bitmap due to CPU issues when We use blends, etc, that is to say, We draw vectorial but We are limited if We push xara to the limits.
The other doubt is, what happens when we use fills, for instance the ones that come with xara, aren't they bitmaps?, will they looks as sharp as We want when we use them in large drawings?.
What happens with transparencies?, are they vector?, what about shadow tool?.
I have shape with a 'single tile' bitmap fill and the bitmap is smaller than the shape (which is what I need) but I want the fill of the shape not taken up with the bitmap to be white, however this is defaulting to transparent. I've gotten around this by cloning the shape, setting the fill to flat white and placing it behind the original (bitmap filled) shape. This works fine but is there a way to do this without resorting to this second copy?

For this clipped that actual part in Clip tool, so in the document only that one can be seen. But in Bitmap Tracer seems that always the whole image analised, how to "real" clip from the picture?
I have a low-res bitmap. It has a dark grey background with a plain white icon. The transitional pixels are various shades of grey.
I want to make the dark grey into a bright blue, leave the white white, and have the transitional pixels changed to maintain their respective "in between" values.
I do have Photoshop CS2 but I though Xara was more likely to be able to do this.
I have a clear black and white bitmap which I am trying to vectorise using the bitmap tracer tool under utilities, i have tried tweaking the settings to so many different combinations but it still traces it with jagged edges and it's not very 'clean' as opposed to the original image. it's a black and white drawing with definitive shapes.

With one of my filters, I can get such effect, but only with included white background. But I need it without background, just like if cropped. Is there any way to get that effect?

View 8 Replies View RelatedClarify the use of Magic Erase - I am using Photo & Graphic Designer 2013.When I try to replace an area with another of the same photo it does not work properly with PNG but seems to work almost 90% good with BMP.It looks like the colour is not correct with PNG even thou the Feather = None.
Does this means that Magic Erase should be done with another format than PNG? If there is possible that Magic Erase will not copy the source area colour 100% on any format even if the Feather = None?

Now one needs to go through the menu>import and adding through the bitmap gallery or fill gallery adding a folder again.
For me dragging from win explorer doesn't work.

how to use PNG with transparency as "photo frame" for bitmap (photo) in Xara Xtreme Pro v5?
I'm try to design pages for photo book in Xtreme. I have set of files in PNG format as "frames" for photos. For example, I attach one (14_v.png) to this message. In another editor I can use them as "masks" for photos - in second attach (capture.png) you can see on left - usual photo, on right - photo with mask as photo frame. How I can make same effect in Xara Xtreme? I try to use different modes, substract/add shapes and other - but no luck.
How do I turn a bitmap into editable shapes in Xara Designer Pro X. i.e. In my case have a screenshot of an website, and I want to get Xara to intelligently turn it into editable shapes so that I can do clean experiments on changing the colours of different areas etc. I remember that there used to be a tool about 4 years ago in a previous version of Xara but I can't find it.
