VideoStudio :: X3 - Blurry Panning On DVD
Jan 28, 2011
I captured in HD, edited in Video Studio X3 then output to MPEG using same settings as video files. I then gave up trying to burn using Movie Factory Pro 7se as it kept crashing during render so I used DVD Flick. the resulting DVD seems fine apart from when the camera pans and the video appears to be a little blurry. Any stills or slow panning are perfect.
Dropping the bit rate from 9000kbps to 8000kbps but that just made the video look awful.

I'm using VS x5.
Basically, I have a Sanyo HD camera which I've used to capture quite a bit of holiday footage. I've edited some together but when I output the project to either mp4 or mts the picture is choppy when panning.
The camera was set to 1080p @ 30fps (there's no option of 25fps even though the camera was bought here in the UK) which I have matched by choosing the "Custom" option when creating the movie. I've matched the bitrate (16789bps on the source) but this ends up being 15540bps on the output file. (??) According to the properties on the source file it's 29.97fps which I have also matched in the Custom settings option.
I understand I should expect dropped frames if I was trying to output the file as PAL compliant, but I've got VS set to NTSC so I don't think this is an issue.
The source file is mp4 and looks fine when viewing the panning scenes.

A friend gave me an SD card of her wedding to tidy up and put onto a DVD. The format is MPG-4. The clips play fine but as soon as I put it all onto onto the time-line I get the odd jump on panning of the camera, which are not there on the clips. I know this can relate to the project settings and I have played around with these, adjusting the bit rate up and down.

I've just bought a fluid head tripod and have been practising with it and getting some fairly smooth results. I've been shooting at a resolution of 1920x1080 at 30fps in MPEG4 AVC/H.264. When I watch the video in the LCD display on the video camera or plug my video camera (Sanyo Xacti FH1) into my 40 inch TV the results look smooth. But as soon as I download them onto my computer and watch them in VideoLan or QuickTime, the results are awful. The picture jerks several times a second throughout the panning shots. I have imported some of the clips into VideoStudio Pro X4, and made smart proxies of them and some but not all of them run smoothly but when I create an MP4 HD file in VS4 the results are just once again awfully jerky. My computer is only a couple of months old: AMD Athlon II X4651 Quad Core and Radion HD6700 series graphics card with 4Gb of ROM running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. What I can't understand is why the panning looks so smooth on the camera and on my TV (so it isn't due to the small size of the camera's LCD) but as soon as I download it to the computer it looks so awful. I'm aiming to put up some film clips of archaeological sites in Crete on YouTube and I am due to go round the island shooting video but I can't possibly put results like these on the Internet. What could be causing the difference between what my camera shows and what my computer shows?

I thought I would just check with the experts before I go down a road that may be a dead end.
What I am trying to do can best be described if you happen to have watched some of the Harry Potter movies, where they walk down a staircase that has all the historical paintings on the wall. Unlike standard paintings, these ones take on a life of their own and have movement inside the frame.
I would love to do something similar, albeit in a simpler fashion, by having a large static image on the main track, containing several picture frames, and then pan and zoom around this static image looking at all the moving images (videos) in the picture frames.
One thought I had was to create a very large images (4000 X 3000) containing all the picture frames. Then, in the overlay tracks I would place all the videos that would represent the moving paintings. The videos would be lined up with the picture frames using the picture-in-picture effect, and then I would pan-and-zoom around the static image viewing all the videos as they played simultaneously in the overlay tracks.
I fear there are several problems with this strategy, the central issue being that when I pan-and-zoom the main track, the overlay tracks wont pan-and-zoom with it.... Perhaps I could move the videos around the screen in sync with the pan-and-zoom, but that seems pretty difficult.
Is what I am trying to do even practical in VS Pro X4?

I have recently upgraded to a HiDef video camera and at first was recording at 1080i (interlaced) and now changed to record at 1080p (progressive).
I have noticed when viewing (on my PC) some of the clips I recorded that there are 'jagggies' along the edges of objects.
I have found that this is a result of 'interlace' and possibly panning too fast. My camera displays a warning "camera is panning too fast" if in fact I do pan too fast but this was not the case as when recording with panning I usually pan so slowly that I often have to increase playback speed during editing AND also the clips I viewed were on people walking in the same direct at the camera, hardly panning too fast. With that said I am thinking (and hoping) that it was a result of using 1080i (interlaced).
This begs the question - Can shutter speed have an effect. The reason for the question is that I have noticed that my new camera (seems to) automatically sets the shutter speed faster and leave the aperture wide when there is a lot of light (I can see that by changing to MANUAL mode and noting the aperture and shutter speed.
If this is the case then should try using a NEUTRAL DENSITY filter to force the camera to use a slower shutter speed? I used to have to do this with my old MiniDV camera to prevent overexposure in brightly lit scenes (the shutter speed never seemed to change without me manually doing so).

I am very familiar with the editing software I have (Video Studio Pro X3). I was wondering if there was a way to make your title stationary, while the camera is in a panning motion for instance.
For example, I want to pan right to left and have my title sitting on a tree branch the whole time stationary as if it were "in the scene" I searched forever to find an example but came up with nothing.
I do understand if this editing software just isn't capable just want to know if it is possible.

I'm loading a bunch of JPG pictures to create a slideshow and they are all blurry. Yet when I view them in windows Photo Viewer, they are all nice and crisp. I'll probably will also add video files later in the project. So I'm at a lost why the JPGs look great in one program and blurry in VS X5!
For PreferenceEdit, my "resampling Quality" is Best and I keep aspect ration. i checked "Apply anti-flickering filter on photos" and cache them in memory.
The project properties are NTSC DVD/16:9. Frame Type is "Upper field first".Setting is 100 "Quality" at a variable rate of 8000. Perform non-square pixel rendering is selected.I also tried Frame type as "Frame-based" without better success.
In case some asks, my video card is an ATI HD5670
BTW, after applying Service Pack 1, in Preference, the "Default transition effect" keeps going back to Random. I tried selecting cross fade but it keeps going back to Random!

I'm using Corel videostudio Ultimate X6 and regularly record live bands, upload them to youtube after I convert them to a MP4 format using videostudio. A few months ago one of the venues installed a set of quick flashing lights, now my videos look blocky and you can't even make out their faces.

I am using Corel VS X5. I have created MPEG4 files using Adobe Captivate and imported them into Corel. When I preview them, if I select Clip, the video looks fine. But if I preview the Project, the video is blurred. I first thought it might be caused by Smart Proxy but after disabling that feature, the problem persisted. I tried publishing the project to see if the final version would be ok. Still no luck. I tried the online chat and they suggested updating my viewers. I did as instructed and restarted my PC. Still no luck. My imported MPEG4 file is 1024x767 HD.

I have captured some screenshots for use in a video. In VideoStudio, when the video is paused, the text looks crisp and is easily read. When the video is playing, the text becomes blurry and very hard to read. I have taken the snapshots using the PrintScreen key and pasted the image into Excel where I trimmed them and then used an Add-in called GraphicsExporter to save the images. I have tried saving them as gif, jpg, png, and tiff images and the results are the same. I pull the image into VideoStudio and have it on screen while I narrate. Everything looks great when the image is in the viewing window but when I hit the play button it becomes blurry and some images are unreadable.
Is there something obvious that I am doing wrong? Maybe not using standard cropping margins or some other mechanical practice that I can change?

I am making a screen shot video for my website. I created 6 individual short videos that look great. When you play them individually, they look great. These are "how to use the website" short videos that do have typing on the screen. The typed words are perfectly clear as individual videos.
As soon as i merge the clips into 1 video, the typed words and the whole video gets fuzzy. I have re-shot new videos and I get the same result.
I have searched all over the internet for the last couple of weeks researching a solution. I've enlisted smart proxy and gone through just about every setting in "preferences" painstakingly slow and I still can't figure it out.
All of my information for my computer should be correct, but wasn't sure if i got the video card correct.

Is it possible to pan within the viewport. I find that I am constantly trying to chase the right part of the drawing for the viewport using the viewport resize handles. Worst is if I scale in and loose the part of the drawing I wanted to show and have to use the handles again to make the viewport really large to find the spot that way.
I have worked out the scaling but the panning within the viewport would be really useful.

Is there a way to pan/move an existing Paperspace Viewport to a defined coordinate? For example you can rotate a Paperspace Viewport with the UCS and Plan view commands
To rotate a view by changing the UCS
Double-click within the viewport whose objects you want to rotate. Make sure that the current UCS is parallel to the plane of rotation (the UCS icon should look normal). If the UCS is not parallel to the plane of rotation, click Tools menu New UCS View.If the UCS is not parallel to the plane of rotation, at the Command prompt, enter ucs. Click Tools menu New UCS Z.At the Command prompt, enter ucs. To rotate the view 90 degrees clockwise, enter 90. To rotate the view 90 degrees counter-clockwise, enter -90. Click View menu 3D Views Plan View Current UCS.At the Command prompt, enter plan. The entire view rotates within the viewport. You may need to specify the scale of the viewport again.
I am copying layout views with a tilteblock and viewport. Going to the new view and having to pan orthagonally down 50 units. I tried setting up named ucs for the 2 locations but that didn't move the viewport as I would thought.

I upgraded to the latest and greatest version 2.8. I like most everything about 2.8.x. Generally, I have found the adjustments/transition to the new feature and controls to be a rather easy. However, I am having an issue with panning, while editing. It doesn't matter if I am at 100%, or while zoomed in, or zoomed-out, panning is a problem.
All the way up-to and through versions 2.6.x, while working details, zoomed-in to 800% or so, when I would PAN the image (hold down the Space-bar, hold down the left-mouse, drag the mouse, or while using the vertical and horizontal scroll bars) it was always a smooth image drag/movement. Since the introduction of 2.8.x Panning has become a nightmare. It's extremely choppy with, broken up, and it freezes up for short periods of time, basically it's anything but smooth. The panning feature is a huge step backwards from what I have become accustom to. The problem is I am zoomed-in on whatever it is I am working on at least 95% of the time (cutting, painting, etc.).
Perhaps I am just a creature of habit but I like working at the pixel level. I'd like to get panning working the way it has always worked.

I have PSP Pro X6 64bits french with the lastest service pack installed. I tried this:
Zoom in a picture that's bigger than the screenInsert a vector object (ellipse for example)Switch to the "move" tool and try to move the shape to the top of the picture. I went too far towards the top and I went beyond it. As I lost it, and after having zoomed out, I went back one step in the "Undo" list to retrieve itThat's where weird reaction are beginning: the refresh system is somewhat lost: I have to zoom out/in with the mouse to force a refresh. Sometimes, I move the object and it seems to jump back

Lag occurs primarily on selections and brush strokes after using the pan tool, but these lags were only present when Vista's Aero theme was DISABLED and vista was running the basic theme (something you would otherwise think improved performance) this is however not the case for Photoshop.
Our dilemma is though that we cannot run 3dsmax in Aero mode and as such this fix is essentially useless :(.
Other sources on the web have indicated these problems as being nvidia driver related (my problems occured running a 8800gtx), this is so far unconfirmed by me although i will be testing a highend ati card shortly.

Wow, Max 2012 is buggy as hell! I keep finding bug after bug after bug.
I have both Service packs and hotfixes applied. When I enter Wireframe mode while panning I cannot go back to Shaded mode. Try it yourself - make sure you are in Shaded mode, click and hold the middle mouse button and pan around without releasing it. Then press F3 while still panning to go into Wireframe mode and then release the middle mouse button. Now if you try to go back into shaded you can't! Unless you manually go and change it through the viewport options in the top left corner of the viewport.

I am tasked with tidying up some drawings that have been exported from Vectorworks and it seems there is a fundamental problem with the drawing.
Some lines do not appear when viewing the drawing, they only appear when panning or when I select all. There are some cases where a line disappears behind a rectangle as if it had a hatch fill yet no such thing exists.
I have attached the drawing in question.
I am using AutoCAD 2012 for Mac.

Something is wrong with the audio panning feature in Premiere pro CC.I've been panning my audio clips to the left and right for about a year now. never had a problem before today. On the sequence time line: Select the audio clip in A1 in the "Audio Effects" window: pan the clip 100% left DITO clip in A2 but pan it 100% right Play the sequence: the "audio track mixer" shows Audio 1: left channel only. Audio 2 right channel only
Today: after going thru the panning ritual: both channels play in Audio 1 and Audio 2 (not in a panned formation)
-So I repeated in a fresh CC Same result... closed/opend the project ... rebooted the computer ...same result moved the clips onto different tracks: got different results in the audio track mixer sometimes they showed panned sometimes not.
-So I tried muting a track: then the othre track showed panned. Just plain weird.
-So I repeated the procedure in CS6: no problem. everything was correct.
-So I repeated it yet again in CC: all messed up.

I've recently installed a microsoft wireless mouse. I'm having issues because the middle wheel doesn't pan when pressed down. I've searched the discussion forums at the Autodesk (both Lt & full ACAD) site, and can see this has been discussed previously, but the accepted remedy of control panel/mouse settings and ensuring that the mouse wheel is set to "middle click" is listed (and selected), but doesn't have any effect. I have MBUTTONPAN set to 1. I'm not sure what else needs to be done to get the middle button to pan.

I don't mean the Zoom Tool, but simple zoom in/out operations. I seem to recall that the default behaviour in Photoshop was that you zoomed with Ctrl+mousewheel scrolling, and if you just scrolled, then the picture would pan up/down (vertically). And you could untick the "Zoom with scroll wheel" option if you didn't want Ctrl+scroll to mean "zoom".
However for a while now, having that option ticked seems to mean that scrolling (with no Ctrl) is all it takes to zoom in/out, and if you untick the option then you need to press Alt+scroll to zoom; in either case, there is no shortcut for panningup/down.
Anyway, whether this was really ever the case or not, my question is: is it somehow possible to make it so Ctrl+scroll zooms and (simple) scroll pans vertically?

I'm using a student version of RAC 2011 and everything works out well upon installation. My problem is that whenever I pan or zoom in on my model, the screen will blink black and white, and at certain zoom level, the screen stays all black. I'm using an ASUS K52jc-Ex303 laptop with the following specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
Processor: Intel Intel® Core™i3-370 2.40 GHz
Memory: 4GB DDR3
Graphics Card: NVIDIA Geforce 310M
I have already installed the latest drivers from nvidia, which doesn't seem to work.
Matter of fact, it's so bad, that i'm always forced to turn off hardware acceleration which is a headache especially with large-scale models and it keeps on crashing.
I understand the fact that this GPU was built for gaming, and its not listed in the list of recommended graphics cards by autodesk. (I get the some features... message everytime i open RAC) My question is, is there anyway I can tweak the settings within the nvidia control panel to improve this issue on my revit architecture 2011?

I have an issue when working in paper space in an active viewport. As a quick change i want to move a few items and im zoomed in to do so. Problem is, when i select some items, then pan with the 3rd button on the mouse to select more items, it deselcts all the items i previously just selected.
Is there a fix or something i need to change in options for this? In AutoCAD 2011 there is no problem, but my upgrade to 2013 has the issue and its such a pain, i've reverted to the old program.
