VideoStudio :: X5 - Video Files Too Large / Import Takes Long Time

Jan 16, 2013

I recently downloaded the trial version of VSP X5. And now, I have a new 12 MP camera as opposed to the 5 MP I had before. Anyway this new camera shoots in video mode at 1920, 1280 and 640. When I use 1920 or 1280 (HD), the file size of the videos are huge, so when I import them to VSP, they take a very long time to import. Is this normal when you want high res videos or is there something I can do to cut down on the file size. To test it out, I shot 20 second videos at all three resolutions. In 1920, the file size was almost a whole gig at only 20 seconds. It would be much larger than that for lets say a 20 minute movie. I'm guessing that would take all day to import.

Correction: Actually, It's taking long to "Create a Video File", not to import the video. Anyway, is it normal for the program to take so long to create a file? if it's a 15 or 20 minute video, it will probaly take at least a couple of hours to create at that resolution.

VideoStudio :: Best Video Bit Rate When Converting VHS?

Jun 28, 2011

I am converting some video from VHS tapes starting by copying my VHS tapes to my DVD player/recorder's harddisk. I then intend to copy from the hard disk to DVDs and don't mind copying at the maximum resolution. I will then import those DVD's into VS and edit. What I want to know is what is the maximum bit rate I should use so that I don't loose any resolution (my VHS is bad enough as it is) but also fit as much as possible to a single sided DVD. As the resolution of VHS is nowhere as good as DVD I would have thought that it would be a waste of space to output at say 7500kbs.

VideoStudio :: PC Crash Writing DVD In Converting Video Of The Title

Dec 9, 2011

I upgraded to VS X4 SP1 having successfully used its predecessors for many years. However, I now cannot burn a DVD as it fails in the Converting Video of the title (001/001] step.

My clips are captured by firewire from a Sony camcorder in DVI format. In this project I am using transitions, moving menus, 12 chapters and titles extensively.

My workflow is as follows: Share, Create Disc, DVD, Use first clip as introductory video is unchecked (patched dll file for Unknown Error installed), use Smart Scene Menu, Burn. Timeline is 1:26:54:22 so I select Yes to fit to DVD. PC crashes anywhere between 6 and 18 minutes later. Do not convert compliant MPEG files is checked.

I have tried various other things and can successfully burn a video under 30 min on the timeline without and transitions, chapters or menus.

My project properties are Microsoft AVI, PAL 25fps, 24 bits, 720x576, 4:3, Lower Field First, DV Video Encoder - type1

Clip properties are the same with 32000kHz, 12 bit Stereo audio as per attached file.

The converting video of the title step takes up to 30 min to complete for a 20 - 30 minute project, so seems like a proportionally high time of total job.

VideoStudio :: Cannot Import Raw Video Clips / Select Import Source Folders

Nov 20, 2010

I'm in the process of evaluating several video editing programs. So far I've used AVS Video Editor, Cyberlink Power Director and Adobe Premiere. With each program I've spent 30 minutes making a quick demo video to see how intuitive it is and how well it performs. Today I downloaded Corel Visual Studio and decided to give it a go.

I've run into a problem straight away.I've tried to import raw avi files. So I'm using the "Select Import Source Folders" screen. When I navigate to the folder containing the files the OK button is greyed out and won't work. It's greyed out all of the time.

VideoStudio :: Split Single Video File Into Multiple Video Files?

Feb 13, 2011

I recently purchased Video Studio Pro X3 - and after going through the knowledge base and product read me, I have been unable to find an answer to the following problem I have:

PROBLEM:

I have a number of videos (HD 1080p) that I have recorded. Each video is on average 50 minutes in length - what I want to do it to be able to do is to slice this video into 10 x 5 minute videos (based on topics discussed in the video), (so essentially clip the video into these segments and edit each one) and then when producing the video file - actually create 10 separate video files (all with editing in place) instead of one single large file.

As far as I have been able to work out, I need to go through the whole file, clip relevant sections, edit them, and then save project. I then need to go trim the saved file 10 times, to extract each time the single 5 minute video I want to create. This is a fairly manual and time consuming process, hence my hope that I can create 10 files based on the clips I have made in the larger 50 minute file in one go.

as I have 30 videos to edit, so looking for ways to save time!

VideoStudio :: Converting DVD Files In Pro X4

Nov 20, 2013

I copied some videos to a DVD using a Panasonic DVD recorder and was trying to put them on my computer for storage and playback. It was three TV shows in VOB format with IFO files in the folder as well. Initially, the only way I could get anything to play was with the video TS file with windows media player, as my computer does not recognize VOB. This doesn't really work as they need to be stored separately given that they are different shows. Further complicating it is that instead of 3 VOB files, there are 5, so the episodes are spilt in the middle of some of them.

I came across this old thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19926&view=previous . I can't import from DVD because it reports it's not a valid format. I was able to rename them to mpg files, but have some issues. When played individually with windows media player, file 01 only plays 5 minutes of the video (About 20-25 minutes are just missing despite being over 1 gig) and the actual video is missing, just the audio plays (the video for that 5 minutes does play in vs x4, it is complete and works fine when playing from the video_ts file in windows media player). The others work fine. Each episode is about 42 minutes. Also noted that 01 is listed as being half of the resolution of the others.

When I try combining files and saving as various mpg options or flv, I either lose audio altogether at certain parts, or it is badly delayed/mismatched and the part that is not showing when I play file 01 alone is missing from the combined video as well. I also tried it in windows moviemaker, but it can't play the files at all.

VideoStudio :: Burning / Cconverting MOV / MP4 Files To DVD

Apr 3, 2011

I'm trying to burn +/- 1gb .mov/mp4 files to dvd to watch on a dvd player hooked up to a tv. I tried burning the mov/mp4 files directly to dvd but my dvd player isn't able to read them. VideoStudio 12 was included on my computer, will it convert mov/mp4 files to a format that can be burned to a dvd that I can watch on my tv?

I don't need to edit the files, just burn them to dvd in the highest quality possible to watch on my tv. If it will, are there any tutorials on how to do this?

Photoshop :: Import Video Frames To Layers Set As Quicktime Files (PS5)?

Oct 29, 2012

For some reason, suddenly when I import video frames to layers, it is now set as Quicktime files that can only be opened (AVI,MPEG etc) and won't pick up MMV files at all. I used to make a lot of gifs fine with WMV files (thats the only format Photoshop PS5 would let me open for years), now it is set up as Quicktime files all of a sudden. It only opens AVI files as well, other video formats pop up with blank screens and then go transparent. Is there any way I can fix this? I'd like to be able to make gifs with WMV files again.

Is there some way you can open MP4 files onto Photoshop CS5 as well? Converting Youtube vids to WMV is quite a process.

VideoStudio :: Creating Video Files

May 10, 2012

I am interested in saving my projects for both uploading to the web and for storing on my hard drive. I'm having some issues

I get by ok with the actual editing part of the VS 4 program. However, I am really struggling to figure out how to create the files in the most efficient format that would balance both quality/file size. I use two HD cams that record in the mp-4 format with h.264 compression 29.97fps. One is a Sanyo Xacti, the other A Kodak Playful. I like to record with the 720p/30 setting, and would prefer to retain the same frame resolution when I create the finished projects. Also these cams record at a rate of about 9000 kbps or so, but would like the finished project to be reduced to about half of that or maybe even less.

OK, so to this point I have experimented in saving my finished project to several different formats. And based on my first impressions, the AVI format looks best (when selecting ffd show and h264 compression). Only there's a problem...the audio is out of sync. About 1-2 seconds ahead of the video I have tried several times always with the same result. If I instead select xvid or h263 or h263+ as an alternative to h264, then everything seems fine. I have also tried creating a movie template with these parameters, as well as just going into the create custom file option and selecting AVI. Can't seem to solve the audio-video sync with h264 as the compression, no matter what I try.

Oh, and now that I've mentioned "Creating Movie Templates" I have another question dedicated just to that.

Why is it that when I save my project using my newly created template, the result is that I end up with several short saved files (portions of the complete project) instead of one single and complete file of my project? Have tried with both an AVI template in h264, as well as a WMV template. Doesn't happen when I don't use a template.

VideoStudio :: Thumbnails Disappearing With Video Files

Mar 24, 2013

I've been looking for a solution casually for about a year to this, maybe I'm just stupid! When I import all my videos from my camera and put them into appropriate folders they make thumbnails for the files. Unfortunetely when I close down my computer and come back, they have disppeared. This is a pain because, it makes a large amount of files easy to work with as you have some idea what's contained from a thumbnail! Now initially I just thought it was my computers age (not that old) but I have a Dell XPS i7 Laptop also and it's the same story!

I shoot high quality 1080i .mts files so I'm sure they are a resource suck! Is it because the computer doesn't have the power in the RAM to remember all these files? I would of thought, once a thumbnail is made it's just like a JPEG and not changing ever in real time? Is there something I've turned off on my computer, telling it not to remember thumbnails?
