VideoStudio :: Converting DVD Files In Pro X4
Nov 20, 2013
I copied some videos to a DVD using a Panasonic DVD recorder and was trying to put them on my computer for storage and playback. It was three TV shows in VOB format with IFO files in the folder as well. Initially, the only way I could get anything to play was with the video TS file with windows media player, as my computer does not recognize VOB. This doesn't really work as they need to be stored separately given that they are different shows. Further complicating it is that instead of 3 VOB files, there are 5, so the episodes are spilt in the middle of some of them.
I came across this old thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19926&view=previous . I can't import from DVD because it reports it's not a valid format. I was able to rename them to mpg files, but have some issues. When played individually with windows media player, file 01 only plays 5 minutes of the video (About 20-25 minutes are just missing despite being over 1 gig) and the actual video is missing, just the audio plays (the video for that 5 minutes does play in vs x4, it is complete and works fine when playing from the video_ts file in windows media player). The others work fine. Each episode is about 42 minutes. Also noted that 01 is listed as being half of the resolution of the others.
When I try combining files and saving as various mpg options or flv, I either lose audio altogether at certain parts, or it is badly delayed/mismatched and the part that is not showing when I play file 01 alone is missing from the combined video as well. I also tried it in windows moviemaker, but it can't play the files at all.

I'm trying to burn +/- 1gb .mov/mp4 files to dvd to watch on a dvd player hooked up to a tv. I tried burning the mov/mp4 files directly to dvd but my dvd player isn't able to read them. VideoStudio 12 was included on my computer, will it convert mov/mp4 files to a format that can be burned to a dvd that I can watch on my tv?
I don't need to edit the files, just burn them to dvd in the highest quality possible to watch on my tv. If it will, are there any tutorials on how to do this?

Can I import XMF files into Video Pro X5 without first converting them? I cannot find the answer to this on the sales information. Also is there any way to import those XMF files into my current version (Video Pro X2).

I have been using VS since version VS5 and lately VS X2. Now I have upgraded to VS X4 Pro, the box version.
The installation went well and am just performing some tests. I was curious in the new facility with converting 2D to 3D.
I followed the manual and tried with one clip and went to the Share step where I selected Create videofile, selected 3D and DVD as well as AVCHD. My clip was in full HD. I went to the Options menu where I ticked 3D Simulator and Anaglyph.
The result after rendering however was only a white screen but with the sound from the clip. When rendering the same clip to DVD or AVCHD in the "normal way" everything was OK.

As Microsoft started to eliminate DVD support in his flagship OS I'm thinking about converting DVDs content to a more modern standard (e.g. mp4 (H.264)).
In X5 SP1 I'm facing an unexpected problem. There is no matching resolution. DVDs use 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL) but in the convertor I cannot find matching resolution in mp4's container for H.264 MAIN nor BASELINE
nor HIGH profile encoders.
Is this a X5 implementation error or a 'feature' dictated by a standard.

As an organization, we have opted to go with STB as we have some complicated requirements that CTB doesn't accommodate. The wisdom of that decision is a moot point and I'm aware of the vast array of opinion.
We have a legacy of CTB drawings that occassionally need to be brought forward when projects get resurrected (state government highway designs are prone to getting shelved).
Up to AutoCAD 2009, I've had a VBA routine that performed a few operations on a list of files stored in a text file:
- Open the file
- Convert to STB using "CONVERTPSTYLES" with a specified STB file.
- Run a script to load a layer state file to change the plot styles from Style1, Style2 etc, to their correct named plot styles.
- Manage a recalcitrant layer that refused to play ball.
- Save and close the document
- Get the next file........
This was all fine until 2010 came along with the announcement that VBA was to be phased out. 2010 is OK with the VBA enablers, but now I've got some work to do.
Our organisation's development language is C# and I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition to develop my C# .NET code.
Is there another mechanism than "SendStringToExecute" for sending a command such as convertpstyles to AutoCAD and getting .NET to wait for it to finish before proceeding.
I've got CommandEnded code that handles waiting for MTEXT and DTEXT commands to finish and I've tried constructing a CommandEnded for CONVERTPSTYLES, but it seems to me that commands that throw dialogue boxes such as CONVERTPSTYLESand SCRIPT aren't handled the same way.
I've tried setting FILEDIA to 0 prior to running the CONVERTPSTYLES command, however the message box that CONVERTPSTYLES presents before asking for the STB file appears to be getting in the way.

Looking at the differences of frames per second and vertical lines of NTSC and PAL I am wondering if video recorded in AVCHD NTSC can be successfully converted to PAL or will there be a noticable difference in picture height and speed?

Family DVD - Footage has been shot in the UK (PAL camera) and edited in X3 - everything at 25 fps. I've managed to render a new mpeg2 file of the completed work n NTSC (29.97 fps). All of this in X3. I can see it's 29.97 by looking at the Properties of the new file.
But how to get this file onto a DVD at 29.97? I've tried bringing the 'NTSC' file into MovieFactory SE but I can't then get the Project Settings to show NTSC - only PAL.
I've set the Disc Template Manager to NTSC but if I then look at the Project Settings it's at 25 fps and I can't change it. If I go back to the Template Manager it's showing PAL again!!! I'm sure I didn't have any of this trouble in X2!!
So how can I burn a good quality DVD in NTSC format from my PAL project?

Is there a way that you can convert a 4.3 import to a 16.9 output? I have imported a musical from a disc which is recorded in 4.3. I would like to output this as a widescreen video. I have tried putting in on the overlay track which gives a better output result but still has the borders each side.

I've shot HD video on a Sony SR11 in .m2ts formatTS(AVC) and 1920x1080 resolution.
I'm looking to edit these short videos in a project with a format of 2.35:1 or 1920x800 as a finished project.
I'm using video studio pro4x right now but willing to upgrade if I need to to get this resolution.

I am converting some video from VHS tapes starting by copying my VHS tapes to my DVD player/recorder's harddisk. I then intend to copy from the hard disk to DVDs and don't mind copying at the maximum resolution. I will then import those DVD's into VS and edit. What I want to know is what is the maximum bit rate I should use so that I don't loose any resolution (my VHS is bad enough as it is) but also fit as much as possible to a single sided DVD. As the resolution of VHS is nowhere as good as DVD I would have thought that it would be a waste of space to output at say 7500kbs.

I am having issues converting AVCHD Video (.MTS) videos to WMV HD 1080 30p. (16x9) When I try to use this default option the final result never comes out 16x9 widescreen. The original is 16x9 widescreen. (In the settings tab it is checked to be 16x9).Now if I use the WMV HD 720p, it will be 16x9 widescreen (using same original video).
I am pretty sure this did work fine when I first installed this software, but something has changed...and I know I have not touched any settings at all.

I upgraded to VS X4 SP1 having successfully used its predecessors for many years. However, I now cannot burn a DVD as it fails in the Converting Video of the title (001/001] step.
My clips are captured by firewire from a Sony camcorder in DVI format. In this project I am using transitions, moving menus, 12 chapters and titles extensively.
My workflow is as follows: Share, Create Disc, DVD, Use first clip as introductory video is unchecked (patched dll file for Unknown Error installed), use Smart Scene Menu, Burn. Timeline is 1:26:54:22 so I select Yes to fit to DVD. PC crashes anywhere between 6 and 18 minutes later. Do not convert compliant MPEG files is checked.
I have tried various other things and can successfully burn a video under 30 min on the timeline without and transitions, chapters or menus.
My project properties are Microsoft AVI, PAL 25fps, 24 bits, 720x576, 4:3, Lower Field First, DV Video Encoder - type1
Clip properties are the same with 32000kHz, 12 bit Stereo audio as per attached file.
The converting video of the title step takes up to 30 min to complete for a 20 - 30 minute project, so seems like a proportionally high time of total job.

I been having a problem with 3ds Max 2010 crashing in Mental Ray. Not enough memory problems. I know you can use Photoshop and convert your jpegs into Targa files at 32 bit and a image size that is easy for 3ds Max 2010 to understand without crashing mental ray. I forgot the Image size. I ran across it in another forum, on another website, but lost the link to the forum. It's been years since I remember the site.
what they do for texture images in Material Editor in 3ds Max 2010. I am messing with image size around 2000 x 2000 or 4000 x 4000, which are Poser 8 texture maps.

I've been trying to export some CS4 Illustrator files to cad for laser cutting. Fab shops here use mostly Solidworks, but can use autocad. I'm selecting dfx/dwg in the export, and scaling to inches, even double checking the scaling is correct from a decimal measurment found on another forum thread, and it is-- but I've tried this about 8 times now with 2 different fab shops and they both say when they open the files the scaling is WAYYYY off, and there are breaks and "splines" all over that are disconnected.

I am seeing different behavior when converting CR2 files to DNG dependent on whether I am converting on internal SATA harddrive or a networked (D-Link DNS-323) harddrive connected via USB 2.0.
I have "Delete original after successful conversion" checked in bother cases. When converting on the internal SATA drive, LR4 deletes both the CR2 files and the xmp side cars But on the Networked drive, it leaves the xmp sidecars untouched.

I have an aerial ortho image with a world file and a .dwg that is in UTM NAD83 17N and some shapefiles that are LL83.
I know that these shapefiles correspond to the subject area, but right now these are not lining up at all because the shapefiles are in lat and long ie. -73.xx, 48.xxx and the UTM coords are i.e. 4870562.56, 555859.08.
How to do the transformation?I have tried to assign the NAD83 projection to the shapefiles, but they remain in the same lat long coordinate space.
