Videostudio has left a lot of large proxy UPX-files. What happens if I delete these files to recover the disc space? Will VS create new ones if necessary?
Hopefully I can delete them, but if not can I move them to another disc?
Mediastudio 5 pro ultimate Win7 64 AMD 960T on six cores Asus M5A78L M LX + 8 GB HD 3000 integrated graphics OS is installed on a 128 MB SSD Project target file is on a 500GB WD Blue.
I have ripped a Blue Ray DVD as an .m2t, at an average bit rate of about 18.5 Mb/sec, with a resulting file size of over 16GB. Needles to say this file bogs the machine when not running the proxy. When I finish a session and close the program, the proxy file is gone the next time I open the project. The same thing happens when the machine goes to sleep with the project open. I have to either slog through working directly on the project without the proxy while it slowly rebuilds, or wait a couple of hours for the rebuild to complete.
Any way to stop the file from being deleted? I went to power options and selected never, but the next day it was gone again.
Another thing would be to increase the speed of the proxy creation, as it only uses about 20% of the CPU. Better to get it done faster... I have tried raising the priority of the process to high with little if any change.
Corel videostudio does not create proxy files.I bought pro x3 in february, but did not install it before yesterday. I installed the version linked in the purchase email from february 2011. I have not installed any updates or patches, so the version i use is Corel VideoStudio Pro 13.6.2.36
Settings:
- Corel is installed on c drive
- proxy folder is set to a folder on my d-drive
- Just to be sure to create proxy files, i've set: "Create proxy when video size is above 352 x 240"
- I have checked "auto generate proxy teamplate"
- i have checked settings-smart proxy manager-enable smart proxy
I have created a new project and added 2 files.
file1.AVI video compression: MJPEG compressor attributes: 24 bits, 1280 x 720 total frames: 340 file size: 41 738 KB
file2.AVI video compression:Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder attributes: 24 bits, 1920 x 1080 total frames: 222 file size: 13 061 KB
I select both files, right click and choose "create smart proxy file"I open the "smart proxy queue manager" and i see the two files dissapear. However, they just fly through as nothing is really done with the files When the files are gone from "smart proxy queue manager" i open "smart proxy manager", and there's no files here. There is neither files in the proxy folder i've chosen.
I've also tried to play the video, hoping the files will be created automatically. I've tried to create the proxy files after installing the patch for pro x3.I've tried to reinstall videostudio.
I still can't get the proxy files, which means i can't edit the video either. When i preview with the editor, it stops all the time. The thing is, i managed to create the proxy files a year ago when i first tried the x3-version, and that's why i bought the product.how i can make it work?
Using Smart Proxy ,to show the Smart Proxy have been created , a small double icon is placed within the thumbnail in the folder and also in the clip on the timeline . The clips in the project are playing smoothly. But when I close the project and re-open it later on, I notice that the small double icons have disappeared and the clips on the timeline are no longer playing smoothly but jerky. It seems as if they are no longer smart proxy files although they are still in the Smart proxy folder.
I change my clips to proxy files and editing goes fine but if I am making a video that goes on over a period of time and I have to load the partly made video again the clips no longer show as proxy files. If I look in my proxy folder they are still there but do not seem to have been loaded into the edit. I am using XP.
I've been doing some MTS editing for my boss, and have been using the proxy file feature as my PC doesn't run the videos properly without using DXVA (would be a nice feature, by the way. my media players use DXVA just fine but VideoStudio won't let me use it's hardware acceleration.)
Anyway, when I finish up for a day and save my project, render the final files, and close out the program, my proxy files get deleted by the next time I load it up. I can use these still, as I often need to go back to change things in the edit, and remaking them every time is kind of a waste of time. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing, or does VideoStudio just always delete these files when it decides to? I'd like to keep them around and have them selectable and usable as long as I say, not how long as it says.
I did some filming today, using my Canon 5D MK II, converted the MOV files to AVI using NEOscene, then ran them through smart proxy in Videostudio PRO X3. When I started editing, I noticed some files were causing the project to freeze and stutter on playback. On closer examination I noticed that about 10 of the 40 or so files had not had smart proxy files created, and that all of these were above 1GB in size. Is this a glitch, or is it just something Videostudio can't do for files that large?

I prefer using the proxy workflow for fullhd editing because it allows fast timeline scrolling. My video rushes are all on external disks. Creating a project and proxies is no problem (takes some time). The problem however is, when I re-open VS with a project for which I created the proxies before, while the related external disk is not active (removed), I still get the tumbnails in the VS library, but I lose the proxies even after the external disk is being restarted. The strange thing is that the proxies (.upx files) are still in my proxy folder (local disk) when opened in Windows, but the VS proxy file manager doesn't see them anymore. Is this normal?
I use proxy files for my AVCHD editing. One of the options in the compression settings relates to " quality vs speed". Imo Proxy files are working files which content is not used for the final rendering. what the meaning / consequence is of the quality vs speed choice?
I just today discovered how to generate proxy files from already existing clips that were loaded into my timeline. When VideoStudio ProX5 was done rendering all these timeline clips to the 'file manager' list as proxies, I closed the program and re-opened it.Everything was still in there but I did not notice any difference in resolution(it was still hi res) and the playback of the preview window was still very 'laggy'. Any way to allocate these newly created proxy files into my timeline as the workaround for smooth editing where I can later finalize/render the project down to hi res using the original source files? The project is very clip intensive with lots of overlays and effects.
As a note, I've made these proxy clips at a very low resolution so I would notice a big difference if they were being used instead of the current clips >all sliced (already in my timeline.)
Unfortunately, in my project which includes HD files, proxy files are not created automatically after capturing, even the "create proxy files" is checked. So to get the proxy files, I have to select all the clips in the timeline and right click to check "create proxy files". What I have to do in order to get automatically the proxy files.
probably isn't an X4 issue exactly, but when i'm done editing a video file in X4, i'll close the file and insert the next video file to edit. when i go into windows explorer to delete the first file i just finished editing, it won't let me delete it because it says it's currently in use. How to delete it without having to close down X4 to do so?
Can .MODD files be deleted from Video Studio without affecting the accompanying video file? We are using VS Ultimate X6, and every video file has an accompanying .MODD file.
I've been using Video Studio X2 with proxy enabled to edit my HD video. When I had my HD video files on USB hard drive connected to my laptop, everything worked fine.Last week I bought a QNAP NAS to store my files and share them throughout my home network. My HD files are now stored on this server. My laptop connects to QNAP through a WiFi router with real maximum bitrates of about 20Mbps (DVD video files have bitrates of about 10 Mbps).
I've created proxy files stored on my laptop local hard drive. My playback method is "Instant playback"
2. Problem:When I play a clip that as a Proxy file associated, Visual studio connects to QNAP and tries to download a large file (I suppose de original HD video file).Connecting my laptop to QNAP by Ethernet cable and monitoring download bitrates, the result is 40-50Mbps (in line with HD video file bitrates), above WiFi speed!Connecting my laptop to QNAP by WiFi, Visual Studio plays with annoying frequent gaps!!Why does this happen? Is not proxy file intended to play instead of the original file?I supposed that playing a video clip with a proxy stored on my hard drive, Video Studio didn’t needed to download anything from QNAP!
When I ingest tape, I always turn off as many resources as possible, internet, virus, etc. When capturing with videostudio pro x5, if i select smart proxy prior to capture, i get skips that appear like dropped frames. If i turn off smart proxy, then capture, than start smart proxy queue, all is fine.
I have heard it takes some time to make a smart proxy file, It seems to take a very long time although I dont know what is reasonable with my computer, intel2.2g proc-4g ram-64bit-win7. The files are h264 mp4 720x1280HD 60fps. Is it because they are mp4 files? I use WMM6 and have to convert to .wmv but editing is fine afterward. I have also tried Video Pad and there seems to be a short wait for loading but nowhewre near as long as VS. Is there a better format for Video Studio than mp4.
I've been a happy user of VideoStudio for a while now, up until the X2 version. Hesitating on upgrading to X3, I tried the trial version on his launch (now expired and removed, so, I can't speak for the latest SP version). Reason I decided not to upgrade, aside from the apparent lack of really new features from my point of view, is the smart proxy configuration, which seems to have been downgraded.
When overtime I started editing HD videos, I decided to push smart proxy in VSX2 to best fit my needs. For that I evaluated the speed of the various codecs available, and came to the conclusion that the free commercial DivX codec (which really doesn't have my preference for any other purposes), configured in low quality settings and reasonable res, was the perfect candidate to generate my proxy files (poor rendering quality but fine for editing, and amazingly fast at generating my proxy files while taking the best out my quad core CPU). For the final rendering I could then use the compressor of my choice (x264 in general).
Did I miss something, or has the possibility to manually select the codec and compression settings for smart proxy simply disappeared in VSX3? Has this been corrected in a SP since the initial launch, or is there any plan to change that in future update?
Loaded a MPEG-4 Media File 3Gb, went to setting, clicked on Smart Proxy cue manager, waited 40min and clicked ok. I check my Smart proxy file manger and it was there. My power went out, when I reload CV my files in Proxy manager were no longer there, and my file is back to being slow and jerky, that means I have redo this again.
does this mean I have to cue manger every time I wish to work with the same file?
Given my problem with jerky video in VS4 (see this thread), I decided to give Smart Proxy another try and switched it on. To my dismay, not only does it take ages to render the proxy videos, but the computer seems to be rather underused during rendering.
VS4 took two hours to create the proxy of a 20-25 minutes 1080p file, 4GB in size. During this time, according to Task Manager, only four of my eight CPU cores are significantly busy (though still below 50%), and disk I/O is in the area of 6-700kB/s for either direction. I took care to put the proxy directory on a third disk - away from the operating system and the source videos. 25% of the 8GB memory is used.Would the smart proxy rendering process make more efficient use of the available resources, it wouldn't take half the time.
VS4 configuration
VS4 service pack 2, version 14.2.0.23
Hardware acceleration is set for both editing and file creation
The video material is 1080p, 59.940 frames/sec, variable bit rate (max 26000kbps) and comes from my Panasonic camcorder. I used the tool that came with the camcorder, HD Writer AE, to copy the files to the hard disk. Audio is Dolby, 48000Hz, 256kpbs (I have no problems with audio).
Project properties:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps) MPEG files 24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps Upper Field First (DVD-NTSC), 16:9 Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps) LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
As I updated to a new camcorder (Sony HDR-CX130) and computer, I have a question about VS X4, that I am using.VS X4 is presented being a kind od ideal editing HD/AVCHD. I started to edit my MPEG-2_TS files with the presumption that I really was editing in HD. It goes quite well on my new PC, without Smart Proxy turned on! In the future I want to burn them on BlueRay-disks. Therefore I want to save my new projects in HD-mode.
But then I took a Look at the Project Properties and it is defaulted to MPEG-files 720x576 pix; SD-resolution. It seems that it is not possible to insert a Full-HD template or Full-HD-matching parameters. Media-type can't be changed to anything else then PAL-DVD.
One other issue then is that I use to use slow-motion and stills in my video-projects, for action-shots. Then I saw also that the stills (Snapshots token using 'Edit>Snapshot' (Correct? I use the dutch version)) don't have 1920x1080 pix, but 1024x576 pixels instead.
I searched the forum and found this topic about the project properties vis-a-vis HD-editing: URL....As far understood, the projectproperties don't matter that much, all material will be rendered Full-HD (upscaled?) in the share-step when selecting BluRay-disc or AVCHD-Video File. Then my questions:
- What is then the use of Smart Proxy and the Project Properties-Dialogue? - Will the stills be upscaled, so they integrate seamlessly in the endresult? - Is there a way to change the videostill/snapshot resolution to Full HD?
If I have project properties set to anything but the default, I am unable to scrub through a clip when in clip mode if the clip has the second icon indicator, as shown in the screen grab below. This second icon (double diagonal frames) does not appear immediately. Before it appears, I can scrub in clip mode, but after it appears, I cannot. What that icon represents? My video files are from Canon HV20 (m2t 1440x1080) and my project properties match them.
I have a suspision that it has something to do with proxy files, and that once the proxy file is made, I lose clip scrubbing.
I just tried turning off smart proxy, and wouldn't you know it, I can scrub in clip mode.
I restarted X4 and clip scrubbing is fine. I enabled Smart Proxy, and clip scrubbing doesn't work again.
Is it possible to delete a Menu. I burned a DVD but the Menu is wrong. When I recall the *.VSP file it has the Menu that I don't want. How can I delete it? If this is not possible is my edited video saved somewhere without the Menu?
I have in my project a lot of video clip that I did a slip of the audio track.
If I need to delete one clip, by example in the middle of the project, the audio track corresponding is not deleted...and if I delete it manually, all the other audio track at right do not move to the left...so the audio track and the video clip are not sync anymore.
I have captured a video with my little sony photo & video camera and some how there is a scene in the video TWICE I have tried everything to remove one section read instructions but they do not work, or I am not doing the right thing.I have tried to trim the clip using the in and out markers and it says to delete the unwanted portion . there is no action or place that I find to do this ( tried many hours )
I want to use Video Studio X4 mostly for keeping track of all my video clips. So I want to import a lot of short clips into Video Studio, view them, and rename the ones that I want to keep (with a better name than the one the camera gives), and I want to delete (from my hard drive) the clips that I do not need.
1. How do I delete a clip in Video Studio X4 (not just the thumbnail)?
2. How to I rename a video clip that I am watching?
I had a file that the L audio channel is English and the R audio channel is Chinese, so I want delete L audio channel. How can I do that? I using VS Pro X4 Ultimate.
I am using VS 12 and when I was deleting old thumbprints from the library so I can load a new project. about 10 blank thumbprints appear and when I try to delete them a message says `load from stream error` and whatever I do I cannot get rid of it. I can`t even sort out the thumbprints in order of date without the messages appearing. I have to close the programme down through the task manager. Is there some way of getting rid of this the blank thumbprints?
