VideoStudio :: Pro X4 - Proxy Files Not Created Automatically After Capturing
Sep 4, 2011
Unfortunately, in my project which includes HD files, proxy files are not created automatically after capturing, even the "create proxy files" is checked. So to get the proxy files, I have to select all the clips in the timeline and right click to check "create proxy files". What I have to do in order to get automatically the proxy files.

when I try to import footage from camcorder as an AV file I'm getting message, 'Capturing failed. The file is corrupted and unusable. It will be automatically deleted'.The only recent change I've made to my laptop is renewing my Panda security.

Basically, I want to use part/pieces of several project files already created, i.e. to combine the chosen sections into one new project file. Have looked in the Manual and cannot locate the answer! I am now using Prox5.

Mediastudio 5 pro ultimate
Win7 64
AMD 960T on six cores
Asus M5A78L M LX +
8 GB
HD 3000 integrated graphics
OS is installed on a 128 MB SSD
Project target file is on a 500GB WD Blue.
I have ripped a Blue Ray DVD as an .m2t, at an average bit rate of about 18.5 Mb/sec, with a resulting file size of over 16GB. Needles to say this file bogs the machine when not running the proxy. When I finish a session and close the program, the proxy file is gone the next time I open the project. The same thing happens when the machine goes to sleep with the project open. I have to either slog through working directly on the project without the proxy while it slowly rebuilds, or wait a couple of hours for the rebuild to complete.
Any way to stop the file from being deleted? I went to power options and selected never, but the next day it was gone again.
Another thing would be to increase the speed of the proxy creation, as it only uses about 20% of the CPU. Better to get it done faster... I have tried raising the priority of the process to high with little if any change.

Is there some reason why Smart Proxy files would not be generated with .MOV files?

Corel videostudio does not create proxy files.I bought pro x3 in february, but did not install it before yesterday. I installed the version linked in the purchase email from february 2011. I have not installed any updates or patches, so the version i use is Corel VideoStudio Pro 13.6.2.36
Settings:
- Corel is installed on c drive
- proxy folder is set to a folder on my d-drive
- Just to be sure to create proxy files, i've set: "Create proxy when video size is above 352 x 240"
- I have checked "auto generate proxy teamplate"
- i have checked settings-smart proxy manager-enable smart proxy
I have created a new project and added 2 files.
file1.AVI
video compression: MJPEG compressor
attributes: 24 bits, 1280 x 720
total frames: 340
file size: 41 738 KB
file2.AVI
video compression:Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
attributes: 24 bits, 1920 x 1080
total frames: 222
file size: 13 061 KB
I select both files, right click and choose "create smart proxy file"I open the "smart proxy queue manager" and i see the two files dissapear. However, they just fly through as nothing is really done with the files When the files are gone from "smart proxy queue manager" i open "smart proxy manager", and there's no files here. There is neither files in the proxy folder i've chosen.
I've also tried to play the video, hoping the files will be created automatically. I've tried to create the proxy files after installing the patch for pro x3.I've tried to reinstall videostudio.
I still can't get the proxy files, which means i can't edit the video either. When i preview with the editor, it stops all the time. The thing is, i managed to create the proxy files a year ago when i first tried the x3-version, and that's why i bought the product.how i can make it work?

Videostudio has left a lot of large proxy UPX-files. What happens if I delete these files to recover the disc space? Will VS create new ones if necessary?
Hopefully I can delete them, but if not can I move them to another disc?

Using Smart Proxy ,to show the Smart Proxy have been created , a small double icon is placed within the thumbnail in the folder and also in the clip on the timeline . The clips in the project are playing smoothly. But when I close the project and re-open it later on, I notice that the small double icons have disappeared and the clips on the timeline are no longer playing smoothly but jerky. It seems as if they are no longer smart proxy files although they are still in the Smart proxy folder.

I change my clips to proxy files and editing goes fine but if I am making a video that goes on over a period of time and I have to load the partly made video again the clips no longer show as proxy files. If I look in my proxy folder they are still there but do not seem to have been loaded into the edit. I am using XP.

I've been doing some MTS editing for my boss, and have been using the proxy file feature as my PC doesn't run the videos properly without using DXVA (would be a nice feature, by the way. my media players use DXVA just fine but VideoStudio won't let me use it's hardware acceleration.)
Anyway, when I finish up for a day and save my project, render the final files, and close out the program, my proxy files get deleted by the next time I load it up. I can use these still, as I often need to go back to change things in the edit, and remaking them every time is kind of a waste of time. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing, or does VideoStudio just always delete these files when it decides to? I'd like to keep them around and have them selectable and usable as long as I say, not how long as it says.

I did some filming today, using my Canon 5D MK II, converted the MOV files to AVI using NEOscene, then ran them through smart proxy in Videostudio PRO X3. When I started editing, I noticed some files were causing the project to freeze and stutter on playback. On closer examination I noticed that about 10 of the 40 or so files had not had smart proxy files created, and that all of these were above 1GB in size. Is this a glitch, or is it just something Videostudio can't do for files that large?

I prefer using the proxy workflow for fullhd editing because it allows fast timeline scrolling. My video rushes are all on external disks. Creating a project and proxies is no problem (takes some time). The problem however is, when I re-open VS with a project for which I created the proxies before, while the related external disk is not active (removed), I still get the tumbnails in the VS library, but I lose the proxies even after the external disk is being restarted. The strange thing is that the proxies (.upx files) are still in my proxy folder (local disk) when opened in Windows, but the VS proxy file manager doesn't see them anymore. Is this normal?

I use proxy files for my AVCHD editing. One of the options in the compression settings relates to " quality vs speed". Imo Proxy files are working files which content is not used for the final rendering. what the meaning / consequence is of the quality vs speed choice?

I just today discovered how to generate proxy files from already existing clips that were loaded into my timeline. When VideoStudio ProX5 was done rendering all these timeline clips to the 'file manager' list as proxies, I closed the program and re-opened it.Everything was still in there but I did not notice any difference in resolution(it was still hi res) and the playback of the preview window was still very 'laggy'. Any way to allocate these newly created proxy files into my timeline as the workaround for smooth editing where I can later finalize/render the project down to hi res using the original source files? The project is very clip intensive with lots of overlays and effects.
As a note, I've made these proxy clips at a very low resolution so I would notice a big difference if they were being used instead of the current clips >all sliced (already in my timeline.)

Shooting with Canon 5DmkII DSLR, which provides 1920x1080 .MOV files at 29.97 fps. Data rate on the files is about 45Mbps, with a total bit rate marginally higher.I have been asked to output .MOV at 29.97, 1920x1080 progressive with PhotoJPEG compression at 90%, square pixels.
In Proj. Properties, I seem to need Microsoft AVI (MPEG doesn't allow 1920x1080 option). No compression, and have obviously kept 29.97 fps. Whether I want to perform non-square pixel rendering at this point, and haven't yet found any info on whether the camera shoots square or non-square pixels. Or I want frame-based or upper or lower fields first. I haven't found any explanation of what this means in the product documentation.
I've created an output template to give 1920x1080 at 29.97 fps, 24-bit colour. Again don't know whether to pick frame-based or upper or lower field first. Using PhotoJPEG compression (100% seems the only setting available, but that's OK).
In the final Create dialogue box Options, there is another chance to render non-square pixels (I'm assuming "no" here since I want square), as well as a checkbox for Smart Render, but again no explanation as to why I would need it.
So I've been practicing with 10sec clips to see what happens. With the above settings, the creation takes a couple of minutes and I have been able to generate a huge 1.6GB output file. Play is somewhat jerky since I don't think my computer can keep up. The input files are e.g. 233MB for 44sec, or about 5.3 MB/sec. Am I wrong to expect the output to be about the same size? Curiously, I have been able to generate 50MB files for two of the videos, and the rendering only took a couple of seconds. Unfortunately I have not been able to repeat this, but rather get these 1.6-1.7GB files as the routine. I have tried different input files with the same result.

I am using Video Studio Pro x3 with Movie Factory 2010
I have tried to burn a disc with .mpg .mpg 2 .mp4 and .wmv formats and ALL have failed. I have created chapters in V Studio and they are not seen once i click on create disc and I have gone thru the grief of recreating the chapters
All of this has failed, at the end - 99% of burning. With the .wmv file, burning failed after 10 seconds. I have been able to sucessfully burn a disc using Windows burning software, so I know my drive is working fine, but really want to do this professionally (windows software created its own chapters and they are NOT where I want them and don't seem to be editable.
I have a presentation in less than 2 weeks, and need to have DVD ready before then

I'm running X5 on Windows 7 and I'm trying to put a VHS tape to DVD. I have a Winfast VC100 U capturing device with the red white and yellow cables plugged into the VCR. The video plays through X5 (with no sound) and when I press the 'capture video' button, it says its capturing, but in the information box, the available space does not budge. Once I stop the capture and go to the edit screen it has only saved a video of 2 frames. I have never tried to capture a VHS tape before.
My current video settings are:
Input source - Composite
TV System - PAL B

When we capture music from CD's in Pro X3, the last few seconds of the songs get cut off. Or the recording skips, cuts out a few seconds of the song right before the end, and then captures the end of the song. It's an intermittent problem with no rhyme nor reason that we can figure out as to which songs are being affected. But once a song has been captured and the end garbled, that same song will always be garbled no matter how many times we delete the recording and recapture it.

I have used old tape type camcorder (sony) for 7 years and used firewire cable(1394) to capture the video into my desktop. capturing file format was AVI(DV type 1). It's pretty big size of files but I like this type of file format because there were no compression so that I can keep an uncompressed original DV files. When I captured(download) the video from camcorder, I usually turn power on the camcorder after connect into desktop, then VideoStudio automatically recognized my old SONY camcorder so it's always ready to capture the videos.
BTW, I purchased new HD camcorder (JVC, model jvc gz-e10). I did connect same what I did tape camcorder, but neither my computer nor VSX5 can't recognized to capture. (It just only detect as movable device, i.e. SD card...)
How to capture this video clip from HD camcorder using VideoStudio program? Inside of SD card, captured files have "mts" file extension.

Whenever I try to capture anything from VHS > DV > Firewire to my PC VS crashes hard core. Everything freezes and it reboots.
i7-2700K I have Two brand new 4th generation SSD (Vertex 4's) in RAID 0, Read and writes @ 1GB/sec I have 16GB of RAM, 2133, half is a RAMdrive (temp). This reads and writes @ 5GB/sec. I usually write to this because there is no possible chance of bottleneck. Though I've tried SSD or HDD write too. Top of the line everything else, MB, sound, etc. How the hell much more power do I need?
Can't believe the FREE 100Kb WinDV can capture for 8 hours + no hiccups, no lost frames, but the second I try to capture, even go into capture mode with VS14 it starts to stall, crash, choke up and eventually reboot the whole F%^&$%^ machine, leaving my 6TB RAID 5 to have to rebuild.

I have been using VS for quite a few years firstly with VS6 and currently have X3 (depending on a few things I will probably upgrade to X4).
Up until the present time I have been capturing on my PC at home via fire-wire from my current camcorder (Canon MD 235 which of course uses mini DV) . I want to purchase a new laptop to give me some mobility and also be able to edit produce DVD's on the move, looking around virtually no current laptops (unless I go well beyond my budget (around £500)) have fire-wire or even an express port to use a expansion card with fire-wire.
I realize that I will probably have to step up and get a newer more up to date camcorder over the summer and what I am trying to understand is the difference in capture formats. I like the look of some of the low end Hard drive/flash/SD card camcorders around, but how do you import to PC, is all done by USB?
In what formats is the video imported and how easy in comparison to say Avi files and is it easy to edit video using VS and produce a DVD from the resulting files?

I have VideoStudio X3 which has been had been running fine, however when I came to use it today I found that although I could capture video from within the capture tap, nothing was displayed on the "monitor" window. I've un-installed and re-installed and still nothing. I can control the tape transport via clicking on the play / pause / rew etc buttons under the monitor window, but there is no picture displayed. To check if this was a fault with the camera / Firewire card I launched Windows Movie maker and that displayed the incoming source without any problem, suggesting this is a VideoStudio issue.
System spec:
Vista Business 32bit
Dual core Pentium running at 2GHZ
4GB RAM
Asus 210 silent (Nvidea) with 1GB RAM
Panasonic NV=GS65 3CCD
Using the monitor on the camera I captured a clip (again nothing displayed within VS) which when placed on the time line played back on the VS monitor, although it was very interlaced with zig-zagy edging on movement.

We forgot to stop capturing video using VS Pro X2. There is now a file size that is a bit over 337gb. When trying to open that file for editing, an error message pops up [There is no common media type between these pins] (17101:70:2)
I am assuming that this file cannot be opened to remove about 330gb of unwanted data.

-I just installed the VideoStudio v10 software and it captures video fine, however I have an issue with the audio. The audio is present but for some reason there is a noticeable static on the video file. Im using a 2000 Sharp ViewCam VL-A10 monaural/analog 8mm camcorder to transfer video to my computer. Im confused because there is NO static on the original 8mm tape, when I play video on the camera, the sound is fine as well as when I plug it in to my TV set for playback. I dont understand where the static is coming from on the digital transfer? Ive tried several capture formats MPEG, DVD, AVI etc. the static is present on all versions. Im using the EasyCAP USB device with A/V plugs for capturing.

I have a Logitech webcam (not the best, but not the worst) connected to my Windows XP 32 Bit computer. (Yes, I realize I need to upgrade. We are working on that.) However, I make YT videos on a regular basis for crafting, and have recently started using Corel VideoStudio Pro X-5 Ultimate to capture via webcam and edit my videos. When I go to watch the video after it's been captured, the sound "skips" during the video. Words will be cut off, but the video looks fine. The actual video itself doesn't skip.
I'm wondering what the best setting would be to capture a video via webcam so that it is a smooth picture/sound (as smooth as a mid grade Logitech cam will do, of course), and have the file not be 3gb. Since I upload these to YT (not via the YT uploader), the smaller the file, the better, within quality reason.

I am using VideoStudio Pro X3 on my Windows XP Pro machine (see profile for specifics) to capture and edit video from my Canon Elura 100 MiniDV Camcorder. The problem I am having is that VS Pro X3 is stopping the capture during scene changes. It stops both the software and the camera. This does NOT happen on every scene change, but happens at differing times throughout the tape. It requires me to restart the capture from that scene forward. This happens regardless of whether or not I have the 'Split by Scene' option enabled. It is frustrating to have to sit through the entire tape restarting the capture at various scene changes. Previous tapes I have used Windows Movie Maker to capture the video. I have tried WMM to capture these tapes and it does work successfully without stopping at scene transitions. A related question is on Data Rate. The data rate listed under the properties menu in VS Pro X3 is almost 2x for the clips captured with VS Pro X3 vs the same clip captured with WMM while all other attributes are the same (including file size)?
